Beauty Wish List: Boots Protect and Perfect Body Serum

protectperfect Beauty Wish List: Boots Protect and Perfect Body Serum I’ve been using Boots’ Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum (or ‘Restore & Renew’ as it’s known in the US) for a couple of months now, and absolutely love it, so I have no idea how I managed to somehow miss the fact that there’s now a body serum version available.

Like the facial version, this promises firmer and more radiant skin within four weeks, and given that the original did manage to deliver on its claims, I’m very tempted to buy this and see if it’s just as good.

It costs £25 for 200ml and is available from Boots.com.

Victoria Beckham gets a haircut

victoriabeckhamhair 2 Victoria Beckham gets a haircut Apologies for the graininess of this picture, but it seems to be the only one around that properly shows the new hairdo Victoria Beckham got herself this week. Posh has apparently gone back to brunette in preparation for the start of the Spice Girls tour, which starts in December. Looks like she’s making a bit of a return to the look that made her famous.

Personally I love this ‘do on Victoria. I think the brunette bob was the classiest of her hairstyles (although I loved the recent blonde "pob" too). What does everyone else think?

Halloween Makeup 101 with Teri Hatcher

terihatchermakeup Halloween Makeup 101 with Teri Hatcher

It’s OK, everyone – Teri Hatcher isn’t just having a particularly bad makeup day here: she’s dressed up for Halloween. Phew! It just goes to show, though, what a little – or in this case, a lot – of makeup can do for you. Some scary false eyelashes, a wacky lipstick job and she’s almost unrecognisable. An inspiration to us all – both on how to do your makeup for Halloween, and how not to do it for the rest of the time…

See the rest of her outfit at The Fashion Police.

Imju Fiberwig revisited – and a revised opinion!

fiberwig 2 Imju Fiberwig revisited and a revised opinion!

When I last reviewed Imju’s Fiberwig mascara, I wasn’t too impressed with it, the main problem being that, although it did lengthen my lashes fairly well, it pulled the curl right out of them.

After writing yesterday’s review on Tweezerman’s Fastlash, though, I had a bit of a revelation – and I’m kind of embarrassed that I didn’t think of it before. Why not try using Fiberwig just like Fastlash, I thought: i.e. applying it to the top half of the lashes, over my usual mascara. So I did. And guess what? It worked like a dream!

I curled my lashes as normal and applied a couple of coats of Fiberwig on top of my usual Lancome L’extreme . L’extreme holds a curl all day long, and lengthens pretty well too, but the application of Fiberwig on top of it took it to the next level of "length", creating that much talked-about "false eyelash effect" I so covet. I actually think I would buy this again now that I’ve discovered a way of wearing it and still having curly lashes – and it’s a helluva lot easier to use than Fastlash!

Dollface Reviews: Tweezerman Fastlash

fastlash 2 Dollface Reviews: Tweezerman FastlashContinuing with my quest to get lashes so long I almost trip over them, I decided to forget about lengthening mascaras for a while and try Tweezerman Fast Lash Dollface Reviews: Tweezerman Fastlash instead.

This isn’t a mascara. Instead, it’s a concoction of tiny little fibres (not unlike the ones found in lengthening mascaras like Fiberwig, for instance) which cling on to the tips of your lashes, making them look longer. A little bit like hair extensions for your eyelashes, basically.

You use this with your regular mascara, applying one coat of mascara before adding the Fash Lash fibres, and then coating with mascara again. Technique is everything, here: the fibres need to be placed right onto the tips of your lashes, so rather than just sweeping this on like normal mascara, you’re going to need to try it out a few times before you get it right. So, how did I get on?

Would you buy a used mascara?

mascara Would you buy a used mascara? Even although I already have more mascaras than I know what to do with, I can always use another one, so I hit up eBay this afternoon to see what I could find in my (very budget) price range. Well, it is the week before pay day…

Within a few minutes I had found a tube of Lancome’s Hypnose, which was ending soon for the bargain price of just over £1 – with no bids. I couldn’t quite believe my luck… until I re-read the description and discovered that the mascara in question had been "used a few times".

The seller insists that it came from a "clean home" and I have absolutely no doubt that it does, but there’s still something really icky about the idea of gently used mascara to me. Foundation I could understand: I mean, the foundation that hasn’t been used is still in the bottle, untouched by human hands. That mascara wand, though, has been touching someone else’s eyes, and I’m paranoid enough about eye infections to want to steer clear, no matter how "clean" a home it came from.

What does everyone else think? Would you buy a used mascara?

Lancome’s Precious Carat Lip Gloss in a Swarovski crystal case

lancomepreciouscarat Lancomes Precious Carat Lip Gloss in a Swarovski crystal case

When it comes to buying cosmetics, I have to admit I have a slight tendency to judge a book by its cover – or, in this case, to covet a product purely on the basis of its bling-tastic case. Such is the case with a whole bunch of Benefit products, and so, too, is it with Lancome’s Precious Carat Lip Gloss, which comes in a case made out of Swarovski crystal.

The gloss itself is transparent, the price is $40, and this is part of Lancome’s bid to tempt us all with beautiful, sparkling things in time for the Christmas season. I think it just might work, too: I mean, tell me you wouldn’t want to find this tucked away in the bottom of your Christmas stocking?

Mischa Barton loves Neutrogena Deep Clean Gel Wash

mischabarton Mischa Barton loves Neutrogena Deep Clean Gel Wash

Don’t you just love finding out that celebrities sometimes use the very same brands you use yourself – or at least, budget brands that are well within your price range? I do, which is why I was pleased to find out that Mischa Barton is apparently a fan of Neutrogena’s ‘Deep Clean’ range, available from just a few pounds or dollars a tube.

I haven’t tried anything from Neutrogena in a while, but hey, I guess if it’s good enough for Mischa, it’s good enough for Dollface! Anyone out there using this?

Beauty Wish List: Bobe Soy Fabulous Whipped Body Butter

bidybutter Beauty Wish List: Bobe Soy Fabulous Whipped Body Butter Rare Bird Finds wrote about Bobe’s Soy Fabulous Whipped Body Butter today, and made it sound so desirable, that I feel my life won’t be complete unless I buy some to try.  Even the name “Pink Lemonade Clouds” has me licking my lips, which I know is wrong given that it’s a body butter and not food, but it certainly looks – and sounds – almost good enough to eat.

If pink lemonade clouds aren’t your thing, though, (and seriously, how could you not love pink lemonade clouds?) there are lots of other delicious sounding scents to try, including 7-Up Pound Cake, Mango Sherbet, Chai Tea Party, and who could possibly resist Caramdel Cocoa Thrill. The ‘Chimera’ scent, which is subtitled “Britney Spears Fantasy Type” on the other hand, sounds… interesting to say the least. I can only hope it doesn’t smell anything like Britney Spears…
