Elizabeth Arden give away 5,000 free samples of Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara

freemascara 2 Elizabeth Arden give away 5,000 free samples of Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara I think the only thing better than a mascara that claims to lengthen your lashes to "fake lashes" proportions, is a lengthening mascara that is also free.

Well, Elizabeth Arden’s Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara is currently fulfilling both of those criteria. The company has 5,000 free samples of this to give away: all you have to do is visit the website, print off the voucher and present it at participating Elizabeth Arden counters (there’s a list on the website). Then you take it home, try it out and come back and tell us what you thought of it. Simple, but perfect, no?

(Open to UK residents only, unfortunately)

Sonia Kashuk to launch Sheer Magic Mineral Face Palette for Target next month

mineralmakeup palette Sonia Kashuk to launch Sheer Magic Mineral Face Palette for Target next month
Once again I find myself stamping my little feet on the floor and exclaiming that it’s JUST. NOT. FAIR. that we don’t have Target in the UK. The news that Sonia Kashuk is to sell her Sheer Magic Mineral Face Palette through the chain from November has done nothing to improve my mood.

While my experiments with mineral makeup haven’t been too successful so far, I’m ready to try again, and have been casting around for a brand to experiment with. Given that this one will be priced at around $14.99, it sounds like as good a place as any to start – aside from the small fact that I won’t be able to buy it over here, of course.

Never mind – you’ll be able to buy it if you live Stateside, and I know I can rely on you to pop back and tell me what you thought of it. Can’t I?

Pink Limited Edition GHD Hair Straighteners With Styling Mat

ghdpink Pink Limited Edition GHD Hair Straighteners With Styling Mat

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m more of a makeup junkie than a haircare addict, which means that a hairdryer and a brush represent the sum total of my current styling product arsenal. Yes, I;m that bad…

I think I’ve just been converted, though. I’d always heard about how GHD hair straighteners were the best on the market, but, being a wash n’ go girl, I’d never tried them out.  Last week, though, I joined a gym (or re-joined a gym, I should say) and discovered that the changing rooms were fully stocked with GHD hair irons. Well, it would have been rude not to give them a try, wouldn’t it?

Well, I love them. Not being a fan of that poker-straight look some girls choose to go for when they get their hands on a pair of hair straighteners, I’d been sceptical about just how useful these would be to me. My hair is very straight anyway, but I wear it up for swimming, which means that when it comes back down? It’s a mess. The GHDs heat up in seconds, straighten out the kinks in a few seconds more, and if I flick the hair under rather than just ironing it straight, give it a bit of much needed body, too. You can also use them to curl your hair, but I suspect that’s something I’ll want to try out in the privacy of my own home, first.

My gym has the standard-issue black irons, but I rather fancy these limited edition pink ones. At £135, they’re currently a little too pricey for me, but hey, Christmas is just around the corner…

Kate Moss gets a haircut

katemoss 2 Kate Moss gets a haircutGiven that she’s just launched a haircare range with stylist James Brown, I guess it was only a matter of time before Kate Moss has something of a makeover on her often lank-looking locks. I love this look on her – the fringe is flattering and modern looking, and the shorter length brings her look up to date.

The stylist was, of course, James Brown, and I think he’s done a pretty good job. What do you think?

Dollface Reviews: Too Faced Lash Injection mascara

toofacedlashinjection 2 Dollface Reviews: Too Faced Lash Injection mascaraToo Faced’s Lip Injection may not have turned out to be the plumping gloss of my dreams, but that’s no reason to neglect the rest of their line,  so I bought their Lash Injection
Dollface Reviews: Too Faced Lash Injection mascara at the same time, optimistically imagining a future in which I’d walk around with huge lips and extra-long eyelashes. Ah, the things we do for beauty!

As you know, the bee-stung lips didn’t quite happen for me, and I’m dissapointed to report that I didn’t have much more success with the long lashes, either.

The Claim:
"Skyscraper length and weather-proof colour, your lashes will be transformed with Toofaced extreme plumping action."

The Product:
This comes in a slightly smaller-than-average tube, but is otherwise much the same as any other mascara you’ve seen. The brush is short and on the fat side, which is one of the things I dislike when using mascara – I much prefer a longer, thinner brush – but I persevered for the sake of those skyscraper lashes.

The Result:
Not so much "skycraper" as "two storey building" I’m afraid. It didn’t hold the curl on my lashes, which I could almost have forgiven it for if it wasn’t for the fact that it didn’t hugely lengthen them, either. I did notice some thickening, and the staying power was good: I wore this on an 7-hour overnight flight, and it didn’t flake or crumble, which is a major point in its favour. Overall, it could make a reasonably good day-to-day mascara, if you’re not looking for length or volume. Me, I’m all about drama when it comes to mascara, so my Lancome L’Extreme remains undefeated…

Take a look after the jump for the before and after shots.

The Cheek of It! Collection 2000 makes a Benetint-like cheek and lip stain!

collection2000 The Cheek of It! Collection 2000 makes a Benetint like cheek and lip stain!
Collection 2000 isn’t a brand that would normally attract my attention, but I spotted this at the supermarket last week, and as my trusty Benetint is about to run out, I decided to give it a try. The deciding factor? It was £3. Three. Pounds.

I couldn’t find an image of it anywhere on the web, but it’s called The Cheek of It, and it’s basically a cheaper version of Benetint/Tarte – in fact, it even looks like Benetint, in a similar sized bottle. It’s also a "one colour suits all" cheek and lip tint: well, it’s a little too bright for my lips, but then so is Benetint, so I tried it on my cheeks and was pleasantly surprised. It doesn’t have the staying power of the more expensive brands, granted, but then it is only £3, and although the forumula looked suspiciously dark in the bottle, it was lighter on, and – to bring up the Benefit comparison again – much the same colour as Benetint.

Would I use it again? Well, probably. I’ll still keep buying my trusty old favourites, but this is a good budget buy to keep on standby for when they run out. (Or for when you spill them and stain all your bathroom towels. Please tell me it’s not just me…)

Dollface Decides: Should Amy Winehouse lose the beehive?

amywinehousebeehive Dollface Decides: Should Amy Winehouse lose the beehive?

Amy Winehouse’s hair terrifies me. Seriously, I have nightmares about waking up and finding that thing suddenly attached to my own head. I mean, God, imagine the hairs you’d get down the plughole! As far as I’m concerned, the beehive needs to go: it’s a big ol’ rat’s nest of a thing (do rats live in nests? I don’t know, but they’d sure live in Amy’s hair if they could), and it looks dirty, messy and tangled.

Unbelievably to me, though, Ive heard quite a few people lately say they admire this ‘do, so I’m putting it up for the vote. Is it time Amy lost the beehive and went for something a little bit less like something a very large cat coughed up? You tell me…

Beauty Wish List: LIPOCILS Eyelash Treatment Gel

longereyelashes Beauty Wish List: LIPOCILS Eyelash Treatment Gel

Regular readers will already know that I’m on what sometimes feels like a never-ending quest to get longer, thicker eyelashes. I will try every mascara I can get my hands on in my bid to try and achieve this aim – and then I’ll look jealously at my husband and my dad, both of whom just have those long lashes I lust after naturally, without doing a thing to them.

Sometimes I wonder if the constant putting-on and taking-off of mascara, not to mention all of that curling and dyeing is actually doing my lashes harm. Well, the people at LIPCOCILS say that it does – and also say that they’ve found the answer to making your lashes longer and thicker using natural ingredients. Bring it on, say I…

It’s called LIPOCILS Eyelash Treatment Gel and it brushes on just like mascara,  the difference being that instead of prettifying your eyelashes instantly, it works to nourish and repair them. They claim that after 28 days you’ll have longer, thicker eyelashes, and they’re charging you £12.50 for the privilege.

This product claims to be the only one on the market which the makers can prove will promote eyelash growth, and it’s proved so popular over at HQ Hair that it’s sold out due to "huge demand". Don’t despair, though -there’s more due back in on Wednesday, if you want to check out these claims for yourself. (And if you do, remember to come back and tell us how you got on!)

Dollface Reviews: Too Faced Lip Injection -lip plumping gloss

toofacedlipinjection Dollface Reviews: Too Faced Lip Injection lip plumping gloss So, another week, another lip plumping gloss to try out, and this time it’s the turn of Too Faced Lip Injection Dollface Reviews: Too Faced Lip Injection lip plumping gloss to go on trial. Dollface Reviews: Too Faced Lip Injection lip plumping gloss

Using much the same principle as the Du Wop Lip Venom, which I lip-tested last month, Lip Injection basically irritates your lips, causing them to swell up attractively. Oh, the things we do for beauty! Actually, the stinging isn’t so bad – it was noticeable, but not unbearable, and it fades away after a few minutes. Does it leave you with Anglelina Jolie-style full, pouting lips, though, that is the question?

Well, yes and no. I think my lips looked a little plumper after using this, but then, gloss makes your lips look fuller anyway, so it’s hard to tell whether the lips themselves have changed shape, or whether they just look a little plumper because they’re covered in gloss. In any case, I didn’t see enough of a difference to particularly want to buy this again, although I did like the gloss effect. Take a look at the before and after pictures after the jump to see for yourself…
