La Mer’s Connoisseur Collection, exclusive to Saks

cremedelamer La Mers Connoisseur Collection, exclusive to Saks

OK, so it’s another super-expensive luxury skincare set, but if you can’t splash out at Christmas (or persuade someone else to splash out on you), when can you? This is La Mer’s Connoisseur collection, consisting of just two items: a two ounce pot of their famous Creme de La Mer moisturiser, and a 0.5 oz pot of The Eye Concentrate, which, according to the Saks website is " an ultra-luxe new treatment that helps impressionable skin discover a more luminous future."

It’s at Saks that you’ll find this set – it’s exclusive to them, and comes packages in limited edition laquer boxes. And the price? It’s $380, so not quite as bad as some luxury moisturisers we’ve seen, but still plenty expensive.

Urban Decay Glitter EyeLiner Trio

glitterliner Urban Decay Glitter EyeLiner Trio

The world of glittery eyeliner isn’t one I venture into often (there’s just not much call for it when you’re a work-from-home writer) but hey, it’s Christmas so why the hell not break out and buy some, I ask myself? This trio by Urban Decay will at least stop me debating which colour to buy: it contains the standard metallics, silver and gold, and one new shade – aqua – and I have to confess, it’s the aqua I’m drawn to the most. It’s £22 at Boots, who are offering 500 extra Advantage Card points on selected cosmetics at the moment, making it an even better time to go glittery.

Dollface Reviews: Tweezerman Slant Tweezers

tweezerman Dollface Reviews: Tweezerman Slant Tweezers

If I had to choose just one beauty product to take to a desert island, I’d choose my tweezers, absolutely no hesitation. And if I had to choose just one brand of tweezer to use for the rest of my life, I’d choose Tweezerman – no hesitation there either.

Why are they so good? Well, for a few reasons. For me, the biggest draw is the sheer precision of the things. Now, I’ve tried a lot of tweezers in my time (yes, I have a uni brow. Sue me.) and most of them will loose that all-important “spring” after a few months or weeks. The ends will go blunt, the grip won’t be as good, and you’ll find yourself casting around for a new pair of tweezers to replace the ones that suddenly just don’t work as well any more.

This is why Tweezerman tweezers are worth the extra money you’ll spend on them, because while most other brands will get blunt and loose their grip, Tweezerman tweezers just … don’t. The longevity of them is outstanding: my oldest pair are now four years old, and show no signs of flagging. And if they do get blunt, you can send them back to Tweezerman to be sharpened for free.

While I was skeptical to start with, these really do deserve their excellent reputation. They’ll remove even the smallest, most hard-to-get-at hairs, and trust me: with eyebrows like mine, I should know.

The pair shown above are the limited-edition animal print versions, which are $25 at Nordstrom. The regular stainless steel tweezers will set you back around $22.

Botega Veneta’s Matte/Shine Cosmetic Case. It costs HOW much?

boteggaveneta Botega Venetas Matte/Shine Cosmetic Case. It costs HOW much? Um, that would be $540 – and I don’t know about you, but that’s around about $500 too much for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love designer handbags, and own a couple of them myself, but given my habit of spilling things and generally making a mess of my makeup bags, I’m thinking that $540 would be better spent on something else (like makeup itself, for instance) – for me, at least.

This bag is pretty, of course, and if you’re happy to spend the money, you’ll find it at Saks, where it’s available in black.

Bobbi Brown Skin Savers Duo exclusive to Nordstrom

bobbibrown Bobbi Brown Skin Savers Duo exclusive to Nordstrom

My skin has been looking OK lately, but we all need a bit of skin-saving from time to time, and Bobbi Brown is the woman to provide it, with this Skin Saving Duo, which is exclusive to Nordstrom. It’s $80, but for that you get two full-size products: Intensive Skin Supplement and Vitamin Enriched Face Base. The former is a serum designed to help prevent the signs of aging, while the latter is a hydrating moisturiser. I haven’t tried either of them, so I can’t offer you an opinion on them, but if you’re thinking of starting a new skincare regime, this could be a good place to start.

Nail Polish to Match Your Skin Tone from Bourjois

nudenailpolish Nail Polish to Match Your Skin Tone from Bourjois The nude look is super-hot at the moment – just ask The Fashion Police if you don’t believe me. For nude-look nails, though, you’re going to want to find a nail polish that matches your skin tone, and that’s exactly what Bourjois has to offer.

This only comes in four different shades – Beige Apricot, Beige Bronze, Beige Nude and Beige Rose (so a lot of beige’s there, then), so I’m guessing that not everyone will be able to find an exact match with this, but as I prefer my nails to look natural but shiny, I’m very tempted to give it a go and see how it works out.

Luckily, at £5.50 per bottle, it’s not going to cost too much to find out.

OK, so why is it, do you think, that so many beauty products either look or smell like candy? Is it just to torment me? Now, those little round things on the right of this picture actually ARE sweets, so this kit gets extra brownie points from Dollface, because it’ll satisfy my sweet tooth and let me wallow in sweet scented beauty products. You also get the 3-in-one body wash, bubble bath and shampoo, in this little felt bag. It costs $10 from Bath and Body Works, who have lots of other products in the Twisted Peppermint range.

Do you say Yes to Carrots?

yestocarrots Do you say Yes to Carrots?

Having spent a large part of my youth being referred to as "carrot top" (it’s one of those "redhead" things), you’d think I’d hate the damn things by now, but nope, I love ‘em. Carrots are tasty, nutritious, and may or may not help you see in the dark, so it makes sense that a hair, skin and body range would be all those things too, doesn’t it? Well, maybe not "tasty", so much…

The Yes to Carrots line doesn’t just contain carrots, though. It uses juices from the orange color’ produce groups plus Dead Sea Mud to create a range of products for the hair, skin and body. Mud masks, day and night moisturisers, body lotions, shampoos and conditioners all contain these essential ingredients to help make you glow – but hopefully not orange.

It’s available at Walgreens.

Lancôme Color Design Jeweled Affair Palette

lancome Lancôme Color Design Jeweled Affair Palette Another new launch from Lancome: this is their Color Design Jeweled Affair palette, consisting of six Color Design eye shadows and two pink blushes.

Although the name suggests jewel-bright colours, these are actually rather muted, with a range of shades Burnt Sand, Designer, Latte, Chic, Statuesque and limited-edition Jewelite, which will allow you to create a soft, sophisticated look. The case is covered in "opulent fabrics" according to the blurb on the Nordstrom website, but they don’t give us any idea what those fabrics may be. Find out for yourself for $52.50.
