Monthly Archives: December 2007Liz Earle makes the Ultimate Christmas Beauty Hamper
Liz Earle really wasn’t joking when she called this ‘The Ultimate Hamper’, was she? I’ve been meaning to ty her Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser for a while now, but if I thought there was any chance of me actually managing to save my money rather than splurging it every month, I’d be really tempted to save up and buy this instead. For the price of £142 you get: Expensive, yes, but oh so very, very worth it… Buy: Liz Earle Ultimate Hamper [via Kiss and Makeup]

Bobbi Brown Holiday Collection 2007 – Pink Quartz
Shimmery pinks and brown are the focus of Bobbi Brown’s Pink Quartz holiday collection, and very lovely it all looks, too. There are six different pieces to collect, and the gorgeous Shimmer Brick has gone right onto Dollface’s Christmas wish – although I wouldn’t say no to any of the rest of this collection, either. It consists of: Lip Gloss Trio – $40 Pink Quartz Mini Brush Set – $45 Best of Chocolate Palette – $55 Best Sellers Lip and Eye Palette – $60 Pink Quartz Shimmer Brick Compact – $38 Tube Tints Set – $28 A Year’s Supply of Boots Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum, half price!
A year’s supply equals 200ml as far as Boots are concerned, and that £49.50 is a special offer: it normally costs twice that amount, at £99.00, and the offer ends on December 8th, so if you want to take advantage of it, you better do it now! This offer isn’t available in-store, so you’ll have to buy from the Boots website. Just make sure you leave some for me…

Sephora’s Blockbuster Palette for Eyes, Face & Lips
All too often when you see big-ass makeup palettes like this, they contain maybe three shades you’ll actually wear (if you’re lucky), and the rest is just padding. So, from this you can probably tell that I’m not a huge fan of palettes. This one, though… this one I could be tempted by. For one, it’s by Sephora, fount of all that is wonderful in the world of makeup, and for two … well, look at it! 64 eyeshadows, 32 lip colors, seven cheek colors, a translucent shimmer powder and more brushes than you could shake a lipstick tube at, and there just has to be more than three colours here that you’ll wear. And even if there isn’t, well, $48 isn’t too much to pay to find out, is it?

Smashbox’s Beyond Beauty Flawless Finish Skin Perfectors Kit I’m one of those people who takes a really bad photo. No matter how good I think I look before the camera flashes, as soon as the results are produced, I find myself cringing at the sheer state of myself. For this reason, I’ve been meaning to try out Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer for a while now, to see if it really does deliver that photo-perfect finish. Well, as it turns out, this is a pretty good time to be trying it out, because thus Limited Edition set contains not one, but two tubes of the Primer -one full-sized and one travel sized – plus Smashbox’s Photo Op Eye Brightener, which is designed to pep up the skin under your eyes, and make you look like you get your full eight hours worth of beauty sleep every night, even when you don’t. Sounds good to me!

Beautilicious Bath Soak Shaker – bath salts by any other name
Bath Salts sound like the kind of gift you’d buy your granny for Christmas, but these ones by Beautilicious are a little more modern than you might think. With a pink grapefruit scent and retro packaging, they’d make a nice stocking filler or treat for yourself, and at just £2 per tube, you should have some money left over for another present or two. Or three.

Bad Makeup: Joan Van Ark
I’m also really confused as to how she managed to achieve that super-white look around the mouth and chin area, while the rest of her face looks normal – or as "normal" as someone wearing red eyeliner can look, anyway. We can only hope she was auditioning for some kind of ‘Night of the Living Dead’ style horror flick here: if not, it’s really time to sack the makeup artist, Joan…
