Monthly Archives: February 2008Dollface Reviews: Gelicity Gel Spa BathFor Valentine’s Day, Mr Dollface and I both opted to give each other gifts themed around the idea of "We’ve got a new bathroom and by God, we’re going to use it", so I got him a selection of stuff from Lush (Terry is actually a man, I promise, he just really likes Lush) and he got me this:
Yes, it’s Gelicity’sGel Spa Bath. It turns your bathwater into… gel. And as soon as I laid eyes on it, I realised there was only one thing to do: force Mr Dollface to act as my model in a quick guide to how to actually use the stuff. Look after the jump, then, for Mr Dollface’s Guide To How To Have A Gelicity Spa Bath…

2008 Oscar Beauty: Jennifer Garner![]() As I just commented over at The Fashion Police, I’m not sure if it’s because we’re so used to seeing Jennifer Garner completely sans makeup, but she looks almost unrecognisable here. She’s one actress who can actually get away with the barefaced look, but I think she looks stunning here, with glossy, brown-toned lips and an a loose updo. The hair might not have been quite so successful on someone else, but I think it makes Jen look very elegant – what do you think? 2008 Oscar Beauty: Amy Adams
I’m biased towards redheads, seeing as I am one myself, but I thought Amy Adams was one of the best dressed at last night’s Oscars, with her green dress complimenting her red hair perfectly. Amy was another of the red lipstick brigade, choosing a sparkly brown liner to outline her eyes with for a subtle but still glamorous look. 2008 Oscar Beauty: Renee Zellweger Renee Zellweger kept her makeup simple for Oscar night – well, she was wearing a sparkly, floor length silver dress, so toning down the makeup sounds like a good idea to me. The short urchin style haircut also contrasts nicely with the formality of Renee’s dress, and although I’m not particularly keen on the style itself, I think she’s wearing it well. The harsh light of all those flashes isn’t doing Renee any favours, here though – she’s showing quite a few lines around the eyes in this picture, but hey, like I can talk…

2008 Oscars Beauty: Katherine Heigl Kudos to Katherine Heigl for choosing lipstick in almost the exact shame shade of her dress for last night’s Oscars. Katherine went for a classic, old-Hollywood style with bright red lippy (and to be honest, with a bright red dress, what other colour of lipstick can you choose?) and subtle eyes and cheeks. I think she looks great, but her hair has been getting a little "helmety" looking lately – perhaps a slightly less rigid style would look a little more up to date?

Yves Saint Laurent Easy French Manicure Kit
Right now, then, I’m offering up a thousand thanks to Yves St. Laurent for producing this Easy French Manicure Kit. It consists of two pens – one white, for you to drawn on the tips of your nails with, the other pale pink, to give a wash of colour over the top. These even look easy to use, so if they actually are, then I may just have found my holy grail of manicures. It’ll cost you $42 for the set at Nordstrom. Catwalk Beauty: Prada bring back eyebrows
Not to imply that eyebrows have actually been anywhere, of course, but at this week’s Prada show, at Milan Fashion Week, eyebrows were back in big way. And when I say "Big"… well, the pictures speak for themselves, don’t they? Prada used the eyebrows as the focus for this look, keeping everything else nude (in the case of the model on the right, even the eyelashes look nude) and emphasisng the brows in a spectacular way. I’m not keen on this look at all, I have to say – it’s groomed brows all the way for this Dollface, but this isn’t the first time we’ve seen eyebrows emphasised for the catwalk this year. Does this mean the big-browed look really is coming back? And will you be happy if it is?

Rodial – Botox without the injections?
Pictured on the left is Rodial’s Glamatox Night. It isn’t cheap – this little bottle contains 50ml of the formula, but will cost you £98 – but if it really does make you look ten years younger within a matter of weeks, perhaps that’s a cost you’d be willing to bear. What does it do? Well, Glamatox Night is described as "a needle free collagen injection which instantly fills existing lines". It does this by increasing your collagen production, so that your skin is effectively "plumped up", as well as being tightened and toned. It also restores moisture and repairs sun damage, all of which combine to give the "ten years younger" effect. Does it work? Ah, the $56,000 question – or, in this case, the £98 question. I haven’t tried it, so I have no idea, but if you’re willing to find out, at least you can reassure yourself that it doesn’t involve needles, and has none of the risks of surgery. And if you do decide to try it out, I really hope you’ll come back and tell us how you got on… Buy from Beauty Bay. Naughty But Nice lip balm pots from ASOS It’s lip balm. But it looks like cupcakes. There was never any real chance of me not featuring this stuff, was there? This range is currently being sold at ASOS, where it’ll cost you £6 for a set of four pots. The site doesn’t give a whole lot of information about the lip balm itself, but it does tell us that the "flavours" are cream tart, strawberry cream, raspberry cream and chocolate tart, and I can see from the accompanying picture, that they come presented in a cute little "cake box" package, which means they’ll make a nice gift, even if you don’t want to succumb to the temptation of buying them for yourself. | |||||||||||
