Monthly Archives: April 2008Dollface of the Day: Alicia Witt
Remember Alicia Witt in ‘Cybill’, with so much dark lipstick it completely changed the shape of her face? It’s nice to see her going for a much more natural look in real life, with just some green shadow around the eyes to compliment her red hair, and a dewy, fresh-faced look for the face. A very different kind of Dollface from Kelly Osbourne on Friday, but still looking beautiful!

Bobbi Brown Longwear Gel Eyeliner
This product appeals to me because it claims to offer the precision of a liquid liner with the ease of use of gel. Now, despite owning more than my fair share of liquid eyeliners, and knowing perfectly well that they’re much more precise than my trusty old pencil, they tend to lie unused in my train case while I fall back on the pencil time and time again – purely because it’s so easy to use, and I’m much less likely to make a mess with it. So, anything that promises to create that liquid liner look, but be easy enough for even me to use, sounds like a good idea. This is applied with a brush (which isn’t included) and it has to be applied quickly, because it’s transfer resistant when dry, so if you make a mistake, you’re not going to be able to blend it out. Sounds like it might take a bit of getting used to, but it could be worth the investment of time. As for the investment of money, meanwhile, it’s $19 at Neiman Marcus. Dollface Reviews: The Floral Collection Magnolia Moisturising Hand & Nail Cream from Marks and Spencer
As you’d expect from a product from ‘The Floral Collection’, this hand cream smells… floral. It smells very floral, in fact, and I suspect it may be a little too cloying for some of you as it’s pretty strong and lingering. With that said, the scent is a fairly pleasant one, and if you like it, you’ll probably find its strength a major plus point. For me, the biggest plus point of this cream, though, is how easily absorbed it is. I hate using hand cream, and I tend to avoid using it most of the time, purely because there’s just never really a time when I’m able to sit around for twenty minutes not touching anything while I wait for the cream to absorb. This one, though, absorbs in just a couple of minutes if you rub it in properly, and will leave your hands feeling nice and soft – albeit rather strongly scented. For only £2 a tube, I think it’s a pretty good deal – but only if you like the scent of flowers! Buy: The Floral Collection Magnolia Moisturising Hand & Nail Cream, £2

When I do decide to try and turn my skin from light blue to white, Johnson’s tends to be my fake tan of choice: I know not everyone likes it, but I find it gives the longest-lasting and most consistent colour, and I don’t even mind the smell too much. If you’re also a fan, Boots.com is the place to go!

Toni & Guy Finishing Spray voted No. 1 by How to Look Good Naked
I’m not so much a "wash and go" girl as a "wash, condition, blow dry and run the straighteners through and go" girl, but even I’m starting to realise that adding an extra step into my hair routine may not be such a hardship – and could actually help undo some of the damage done by all that heat. Well, Gok Wan to the rescue… For those who don’t watch How to Look Good Naked, Gok Wan is the fashion consultant who runs the show, and on last week’s show his ‘Naked Army’ of testers voted Toni&Guy’s Finishing Shine Spray the best shine spray on the market. It polled 66% of the vote, and since the show aired, Boots have seen a huge increase in sales. That’s not so say it works, of course – just that a TV show has created a bit of a frezy for it – so I’d be interested to hear from anyone who’s actually used this. Accoridng to the PR company, "Shine Spray not only imparts a healthy shine, but it also helps to control static, refresh and illuminate dull hair." So, does it? Pop over to Boots.com to find out… Buy: Tony & Guy Finishing Shine Spray, £6.99

Dollface of the Day: Kelly Osbourne at the NME Awards
The Fashion Police have already had a few things to say about Kelly Osbourne’s outfit at last night’s NME Awards, so I’m just going to ignore the fact that she was wearing what appeared to be a sawn-off hoodie on her head and concentrate on the makeup. Because that’s what we do here. Thankfully. I absolutely love this look on Kelly Osbourne. Yes, I’m a fan of bright red lipstick anyway (and I’d love to find a shade that looks like this on me, but so far it’s proven to be a strangely difficult task. I mean, how hard can it be to find a classic red lipstick?), but it’s Kelly’s skin that I really covet. I mean, it’s flawless, isn’t it? She’s like a little porcelain doll here, and if she could somehow bottle that skin and sell it, she’d make a fortune. Mostly off me, it has to be said. As for the eyes… Well, I wouldn’t do red eyeliner myself, but this is perfect on someone like Kelly Osbourne: it’s edgy but still cute, and it works perfectly with the red lips and, dare I say it, the dress. What do you think?

Dollface of the Day: Eva Mendes at the NY Comic Convention
When you’re Eva Mendes, I guess you don’t really need to worry about wearing lots of heavy makeup, do you? Oh, she’s still wearing plenty, of course, but she’s kept this look fairly natural, with a neautral gloss, shimmery brown eyeshadow, and a sweep of bronzer across the cheeks. With her loose curls, this is a nice, summery relaxed look, that gives the wearer the appearance of not having gone to too much trouble over it. What do you think?
