Monthly Archives: May 2008The thing I hate most about air travel. Other than the “fear of death” thing, obviously.
Here’s the thing though: my eyebrows? They meet in the middle. Oh yes they do. Now, not a lot of people know that < / Michael Caine > (Or actually, wait: they kinda do now, don’t they?) because I have been tweezing my brows religiously since I was a teenager. Before that, I used to beg my parents to do it for me. They were all, "What do you want for Christmas, Amber?" and I’d be like, "For my eyebrows not to meet above my nose any more, thanks Santa!" This eyebrow tweezing is a routine that I have to go through every day in life. I tweeze my eyebrows last thing at night, and if I ever missed a night, by the time I woke up next morning I’d be looking like the missing link. I’m not even joking here. Tweezing is a bit of a drag, but it’s one of those chores that I just can’t afford to skip – and to illustrate how very serious I am about this, I have made my mother promise that if I’m ever hit by a bus or something and end up in a coma/incapacitated in some other way, that she will visit me in hospital every day and TWEEZE MY DAMN EYEBROWS ALREADY.

Freeze 24.7 ‘Jet Set’ Travel Kit
Oh Dollface readers, Dollface readers, I feel like I’ve been neglecting you lately, and that’s because… well, it’s because I have been. Umm. Yeah. Sorry about that. The fact is, this time next week I’ll be in a plane en route to Florida for a much-needed vacation, and in the run-up to the break, all of my time’s been taken up with advance posting for The Fashion Police and Shoewawa, which means you, little Dollface readers, have been getting neglected. Sorry, again. On the plus side, I plan to hit Sephora hard during my vacation, and will be bringing back lots of new products to review. In the meantime, I’ll be boring you all with my holiday beauty preparations, starting with this Jet Set Travel Kit by Freeze 24.7. Now, I haven’t bought this kit, but I wish I had, because it contains five little products, all of a size that won’t get them confiscated as you go through airport security (remember to stick ‘em in a baggie, though!). You get a bunch of heavy duty moisturisers for the face and eyes, and you know what my favourite bit about this kit is? The fact that it contains a lip plump. Because you know how you just have to have plump lips in mid air? Well no, I don’t really either, but hey, lip plump! Tiny! That won’t get taken away by airport security! Gotta love it. Sushi Soap from Perpetual Kid
We’ve had soaps that smell like food before, many a time, but here’s some soap that actually looks like food – like sushi, to be precise. This sushi soap is from Perpetual Kid (great name!) and actually looks too good to use to me. I’d be tempted to just set it out in the bathroom and smile at it every time I walked by. Or, if I was feeling particularly evil, I could always set in out in the kitchen and wait for Mr Dollface to find it… Buy: Sushi Soap, $7.99

Dollface Reviews: Lacura Concealor/Highlighter pen
(A guest review by Norma of Keeping it Realtor) My daughter introduced me to YSL Touche Eclat. Honestly, if somebody shouted "fire" she’d grab the Touche Eclat and her mascara and then head for the door. I had never tried it but last year in the duty free shop at the airport they had a special offer of a pack of two for practically no money. Well my husband paid, so for us, it was literally, no money. Anyway, I used it for a while and I loved the effect but unfortunately the skin under my eyes started to go really dry and I had to stop using it. My loss, daughter’s gain! Since then I’ve hunted for a concealer that can erase dark circles under the eyes and give the same lightening effect of the Touche Eclat but without the dryness, and I think I’ve found it. It’s a concealer pen from the Lacura Beauty range at Aldi and it gives me the same coverage and brightness that I had with the Touche Eclat. I have been using this product for months now with no dryness under the eye and quite honestly I couldn’t be without it. At only £3.49 for this little silver tube of brightness you really ought to give it a try. While you’re at it you might want to try the Lacura Lipliner it’s another little gem. Sorry I don’t have a price on this product as the, erm, husband paid again… Around our blogs this week…

The Hairbrush Cleaner: necessary or not?
So, you know all the old hair and weird white bits of fluff (What ARE those things, anyway?) that end up stuck in your hairbrush all the time? Gross, aren’t they? Well, you can either get rid of them the old fashioned way – with your hands – or you can get rid of them the shiny new way, with this hairbrush cleaner, which costs just $3.50 and comes in pink, red and green. Do you really need a special tool to clean your hairbrush, though, Dollface wonders, or are hands just as good? [via Rare Bird Finds]

Dollface Reviews: Schick Quattro disposable razor
I have to admit, the first time I used the Schick Quattro, I thought I’d made a mistake and left the plastic protective cover on the blades. (Yes, that’s totally the kind of thing I would do…) This is a really gentle shaver -so gentle, in fact, that I’d think it would be pretty difficult to cut yourself with it, although, in the interests of not being sued, please don’t take my word for that, and exercise your usual caution if you do decide to try it! While the safety aspects of it are pretty impressive, however (if you’ve ever had to walk around after a shower with bits of loo roll stuck to your legs where you cut yourself shaving, you’ll know what I mean here…), it’s the quality of the shave that interested me the most, and it didn’t disappoint here, either, leaving my legs smooth and hair-free, which is, after all, exactly what you look for in a razor. The softness may have something to do with the conditioning strip, which contains Aloe and Vitamin E, but this also uses four synchronized blades, which makes it easy to get to all of those little, annoying hairs, while its still safe enough to use on difficult areas like around the knees, without leaving the bathroom looking like a scene from Psycho. Ice cream flavoured lip balm – yes, another one
I know, I know -it’s another lip balm that tastes like food. I promised myself I wouldn’t keep on writing about these because there’s just so damn many of them out there, but then I took one look at this and suddenly started channeling Homer Simpson, going, "Mmmmm! Ice cream!" This one is from NPW.co.uk and comes in a bunch of different flavours including chocolate fudge brownie, strawberry and cookies n’ cream. Mmmm, cookies!
