Monthly Archives: July 2008Urban Decay Surreal Skin Liquid Foundation
It’s Urban Decay’s Surreal Skin Liquid Foundation, and it will, of course, co-ordinate perfectly with Urban Decay’s best-selling Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Will the foundation perform as well as the primer? Well, the description certainly makes it sound good, that’s for sure: it’s oil=free, which means it won’t clog your pores, and although the liquid itself is said to be light, it will apparently give you a medium coverage, which you can build up by layering it on any area that needs it. It’s also vitamin-infused, and they say it will last all day. It all sounds good, but I have to say, it’s still the bottle that’s making me want to buy it! Korres Summer Cocktails – shower gels for summer
These Summer Cocktails by Korres sound like they could be up for the job. No, they’re not real alcohol, sadly: they’re shower gels inspired by cocktails, and they come in three "flavours" – Ginger Cosmopolitan, Vanilla Daiquiri and Melon Mojito. The travel-sized bottles make them great for those of you who still have a holiday to look forward to. As for the rest of us – well, we can always pretend… Buy: Korres Summer Cocktails, £9 for three

Dollface Reviews: Boots Golden Shimmer Instant Tan Makeup
These days? Not so much. The truth is, I’m much too lazy to deal with the constant upkeep of a fake tan job, so I tend to leave it until the last minute, then rush it and make a mess. This got to the stage earlier this year when I spent the week before my vacation to Florida trying to use nail polish remover to get rid of fake tan streaks, and decided that enough was enough: I would remain pale and, um, interesting.

Dove Spa ‘Dewdrops’ Refreshing Facemask
Luckily for me, Dove Spa’s ‘Dewdrops’ refreshing mask promises just that. If you’re not familiar with Dove Spa’s products, they all have wonderful sounding names like ‘Hot Stuff’, ‘Spring Embrace’ and the aforementioned ‘Dewdrops’, and they come in a refreshingly minimal packaging that makes me feel less stressed already. Dewdrops itself costs £20, and contains peppermint, cucumber extract and moisturising panthenol to keep your skin hydrated and refreshed. Buy it here. Neutrogena launch new Visibly Clear Spot Stress Control range I’m sure most of us would probably agree that times of stress also tend to be times of spots and other fun skin breakouts. It’s basically the universe’s way of kicking you when you’re down. Neutrogena have just conducted a survey which seems to back up that idea: they spoke to 1,000 young women and found that 72% believed they were more likely to suffer a breakout when stressed, and 64% saying they become even more stressed as a result. It’s a vicious circle, and, in a bid to break it, the company has just launched its Visibly Clear Spot Stress Control range, which will be available from this August, and includes: Visibly Clear™ Spot Stress Control™ Hydrating Spot Treatment £4.49 Visibly Clear™ Spot Stress Control™ Daily Scrub £4.49 Visibly Clear™ Spot Stress Control™ Daily Foam Wash £4.49

Mistake Proof Mascara from Avon
The image above caught my eye earlier tonight while I was writing our Deal of the Day post about Avon’s free shipping offer. "Mistake Proof Mascara?" I thought? That sounds like it was made for me! As I think I’ve mentioned here before, you see, although I’ve been wearing mascara daily since I was 15, I still regularly make an absolute mess while applying it – mostly because my eyes are rather deep set and my lashes are long, and the combination of the two means I tend to end up with rather a lot of mascara on my eyelids every morning when I’m putting my makeup on. To get rid of this, I usually slick on some petroleum jelly before applying my mascara, the idea being that the Vaseline "catches" the mascara smudges, and lets me just wipe them right off. The problem with that, of course, is that the residue of the Vaseline can make the eyelids greasy, and cause even more mascara to adhere to them, and so it becomes a vicious circle. Avon’s Mistake Proof Mascara aims to put an end to all of that. This double-ended tube contains mascara in one end and an eraser gel in the other. On one side of the wand, you’ll find a soft applicator which you use with the eraser gel to wipe away any mascara mistakes. It’s a simple idea, but a good ‘un, especially for those days when you’re putting your makeup on in a rush and don’t have the time to be extra-careful with your mascara application. My only reservations here are about the mascara itself, which is a non-waterproof (I love my waterproof mascara!) formula, available in black, brown and blue. Being super-fussy about mascara, I have no idea how well I’d get on with this one, but the idea of it being "mistake proof" is definitely appealling. It’s currently reduced to £6 at the Avon website, and don’t forget that free shipping offer, too! Free Delivery at AVON cosmetics! Offer valid for two days only!

Lancôme Ôscillation to be available for one day only this Thursday – but only in the US
Then I got depressed again when I realised it’s only going to be available in the US. Boo! Looks like I’ll have to wait until Autumn to get to try this. For those of you in the States, however, you can order yours online while supplies last from Lancôme-usa.com or Sephora, or pick it up in person on Thursday, July 31st at the locations you’ll find listed after the jump.
Dollface Reviews: Dermelect Line Correction Eye Gel
First up: sorry for the lack of posts this week, folks. We’ve been having technical issues which have left me with very little time to write anything, and Mr Dollface and I are also getting ready for a weekend away, which is something that requires a huge amount of forward-planning when you’re self-employed, so if posts have been rather thin on the ground, that’s why! Hopefully things should be getting back to normal next week. Second up: You may notice some changes to the site template, some elements of which aren’t working yet. Don’t worry, we know about it: we’ve been doing some background work to the site, and we’re not done yet, so please bear with us! Third up – Dermelect Line Correction Eye Gel. I’ve been using this for a couple of weeks now, and loving the coolness of of it. I read another blogger’s review (Sorry, I can’t remember who it was, so if it was you, shout out so I can link to you!) who recommended keeping it in the fridge between applications, so I did that, and liked it even more. I’ve been having loads of problems with the skin under my eyes lately. It tends to flare up when I’m stressed, and gets very red, dry and angry looking. When this happens, I try not to use anything other than specialist creams on it, but I did try Dermelect, and again, loved the coolness of it on my sore skin. I found it good at reducing puffiness, soothing and refreshing the skin, and less good at reducing lines -mine are still there, but then I guess it has only been a couple of weeks…

Dollface Reviews: Benefit Erase Paste
When I bought this, I hadn’t even been in the US for 24 hours, and my face was showing the signs of not just jet-lag, but of the stressful few weeks I’d just had immediately prior to my vacation. (Taking a break can sometimes feel like more stress than it’s worth when you’re self-employed, sadly). To say there were bags under my eyes would be an understatement. Anyway, I bought my Erase Paste, choosing the palest shade possible ("fair") to match my pearly white skin, and that night, as I was getting ready for dinner, I decided to try it out…
