Question: would you pay $1000 for a face cream? Because that’s how much this one costs. It’s La Prairie’s Cellular Cream Platinum Rare, and yes, it does actually contain platinum, which is exactly what I’d expect for that price…
And why does this face cream contain platinum? Well, La Prairie say it can bond with human skin to "recharge the skin’s electrical balance with pure platinum to ensure ageless performance, protect the skin’s DNA, and replenish moisture continuously for a look of soft splendor."
Umm. OK. But it’s still $1000, and for that price I’d want an absolute guarantee that I’d be getting that "look of soft splendour" before I’d be parting with any cash. Oh, and I’d also need access to someone else’s bank account, obviously.
What about you? Would you pay $1000 for this? If you would, it’s available to pre-order now at Nordstrom.

“Protect the skin’s DNA”? I have something here that can do that. It’s called sunscreen.
Given that I have NEVER encountered a face cream at any cost level that actually does the things it says it does…nope.
Only if it lasted a really long time and actually made my skin look like it belonged to an airbrushed model.
That’s.. bullcrap. Platinum is a non-reactive metal. Its distinctive feature is that it /doesn’t/ “bond” or react with whatever substance, let alone human skin.
Oh my, I’m sure one could just buy some wonderful platinum jewelry for $1000, to distract people from one’s wrinkled face!
I would only pay $1000 for a face cream if it actually gave me a face like Rachel Weisz…
Wow, I am laughing because a few months ago, a friend of mine passed along a free sample of this stuff and it kept getting shuffled around: finally the other day I opened it and started using it. It smells great and seems to help. So I have been keeping it in the refrigerator where I often keep my better skin care products ( I normally buy from Lush.com ). Today I went looking online to see where I might buy a jar of this product, and talk about sticker shock! That means this funny looking sample with the weird little spatula was worth about $200!
Well, I’d rather have a platinum ring for the thousand bucks or put it toawards somthing else like a horse, or car down payment. But really, for that kind of money you can have a treatment from the cosmetic surgeon that will definitely give results. Water, rest, suncreen,a good moisturizer, vitamin C and Omega 3′s have been my best friends so far. And a wide brimmed hat.
