Essie Nail Corrector Pen

essie nail corrector pen Essie Nail Corrector Pen

A few years ago, I was given a nail corrector pen as part of a nail polish gift set, and I absolutely loved it. So much easier and more accurate than the "folded-up piece of loo roll dipped in nail polish remover" technique I’d been previously using to correct nail polish mistakes (and trust me, I make a lot of them), and it smelt a whole lot better, too.

Anyway, time went by, the pen dried up and I kept on forgetting to buy a new one, so it was back to the old "loo roll" technique for me, until I found this one by Essie on the Nordstrom website. At $14, this seems fairly expensive for a nail pen, but the beauty of this one is that it’s refillable, so when it runs out, you can just fill it right back up again with remover. Which suddenly makes the price seem a little more reasonable, no?

Fresh Twilight Freshface Glow – illuminating makeup primer

freshface glow Fresh Twilight Freshface Glow illuminating makeup primer This product has two words in its name that are guaranteed to get my attention: "fresh" and "glow". Yes, it’s another cream designed to give you that all-important "natural glow", and you use it as a primer to minimize pores, smooth out the skin and just make yourself look all-round flawless, basically.

It’s also dubbed an "illuminating" primer, which is where that "glow" comes from, and it contains meadowfoam seed oil, restorative evening primrose root extract, and antioxidant-rich vitamins A, C, and E.

All of this makes it sound pretty good to me. If it sounds good to you too, you can pick one up at Sephora for $36.

Lower lash curler for curly lower lashes

lower lash curler Lower lash curler for curly lower lashes Just while we’re talking about eyelash curlers… as obsessed as I am with the things, even I didn’t know I needed one of these until I found it on the Sephora website. And actually, I have to say, I’m STILL not convinced I need it.

This is a lower lash curler, and Sephora say it’s for people with "stick straight lower lashes". This sent me rushing off to the mirror to try to establish whether I’m one of those people, because to be completely honest, my lower lashes just don’t tend to figure too heavily in my thoughts. I just brush a little bit of mascara onto them in the morning and then forget about them.

Are they too straight? Could they benefit from a lower lash curler? I have no idea what the answer to the first question is, and I’d hazard a guess that the answer to the second one is "no" because my lower lashes are just too pale and feeble to make much of an impact, regardless of HOW curly or otherwise they are. If you think yours could do with a curlin’, though, these are $10 at Sephora. Anyone use them?

18k Gold Eyelash Curler from Sephora

eyelash curler gold 18k Gold Eyelash Curler from Sephora Would you buy a gold-plated eyelash curler? Well, as much as I love/depend upon my eyelash curlers, I was thinking the answer to that one would be "er, no". But then I noticed that the price of this one was only $18 and I found myself thinking, "Well, OK, maybe we can talk…"

This is from Sephora and is basically their classic eyelash curler, only coated with 18k gold. In other words, it won’t work any better than a stainless steel curler, but it will look very shiny sitting in your makeup bag.

Are you convinced? Do you love your eyelash curler enough to want to buy a gold plated version? If you do, you can get this one here.

Jelly Pong Pong Gourmet Lip Therapy

hournmet lio therapy Jelly Pong Pong Gourmet Lip Therapy Jelly Pong Pong’s packaging continues to impress me, and, yes, to make me want to BUY THINGS. Which I guess is the whole point, no?

This Gourmet Lip Therapy comes with a "secret recipe book" telling you how it’s made (so not that much of a "secret" then, obviously). What I can tell you without buying the book is that the two products shown are made from real licorice (left) and real milk (right), contain sweet almond, peach kernel and jojoba oils and cost £15 each.

The milk version will soothe the skin on the lips, while the licorice will calm inflamed areas. Both come in these slightly medicinal looking tubes, and are available from ASOS.

Boots No. 7 Stay Perfect Eye Mousse in ‘Sky’

eyeshadow 2 Boots No. 7 Stay Perfect Eye Mousse in Sky

Remember the free makeup bag and products Boots are currently giving away with No. 7 purchases over £20? Well, it so happened that Mum Dollface picked one of these up over the weekend, and was kind enough to pass on to me the products she didn’t need. One of them was this Stay Perfect Eye Mousse (or "eyeshadow" as it’s known to you and me), and I’m probably not going to get a lot of use out of this myself because bright blue eyeshadow isn’t something I wear very often, but I did find the colour very pretty when I tested it on the back of my hand, and thought I’d show it to you anyway.

This isn’t so much a "mousse" as a creamy eyeshadow, and it has a lovely shimmer to it which lasts long after the deep blue has been rubbed on. The colour is called "Sky", and as you can see above, it’s the same bright blue as a summer sky, although I’d say the pigment is a little deeper in real life.

I’m not sure how well this will wear, as I haven’t had the chance to try it on my eyelids, but if you like the look of it, it costs £8.50 per tube, and there are six colours to choose from.

Dollface Reviews: Bourjois Volume Clubbing Waterproof Mascara (with before and after pictures)

bourjois volume clubbing ma 5 Dollface Reviews: Bourjois Volume Clubbing Waterproof Mascara (with before and after pictures)

I have to admit, I’m not much of a budget mascara girl. While I’ll happily buy drugstore foundation (my current favourite is still Maybelline’s Pure Makeup, which I stocked up on when I was in the States, because it still doesn’t seem to be available here) and other items, but when it comes to mascara, I will invariable opt to pay that little bit more for something I know works.

I’d heard lots of great reviews about Bourjois Clubbing mascara, though, so when I discovered it was available in a waterproof version ("Tested at foam parties" says the tube), I decided to give it a go and see whether it was as good as it sounded.

I think the pictures above speak for themselves, don’t you?

How to wear this Fall’s black lip look

lancome gloss How to wear this Falls black lip look

Last week, Amy posted this question: "I wonder if you have suggestions for how to pull of this fall’s dark lip with my very pale complexion. Or should I just give up?"

I’m sure Amy’s not the only one who looked at the dark lips on the Fall catwalks and thought, "How the hell am I supposed to pull THAT off in real life?" I know I did, and, like Amy, I have the palest of pale complexions, which just adds to the problem as the dark lips will basically make me look like a vampire who just finished dinner. Umm, yeah.

There is an answer, though, and it’s an answer I haven’t tried myself, so no one blame me if it doesn’t work! The answer is… black lip gloss!

Fruit Loops and Gummi Bears – not food, soap!

food soaps Fruit Loops and Gummi Bears not food, soap!

I think I’m in danger of becoming seriously obsessed with the old "soap that looks like food" thing, but can you blame me when people are making soap like the ones pictured above? I mean, I’d eat that. Or I’d try , anyway – the Gummi Bears in particular look so realistic I suspect it would be a bad idea to put them out in a home with small children in it…

Both of these soaps are by Etsy seller Good Clean Fun, who also makes soap in the shape of Rice Krispy treats, popcorn and other goodies. The Fruit Loops are currently sold out, and I’d imagine the rest will be soon, too, so if you want that, you may want to get your skates on. Buy them here.

Napoleon Perdis Peep Show ‘Madam Curl-Curl’ mascara

napoleon perdis mascara Napoleon Perdis Peep Show Madam Curl Curl mascara

With a name like ‘Madame Curl Curl’, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that this mascara by Napoleon Perdis is all about the curl. With a special curved wand and a moisturising formula, this is designed to open up your eye with a curl that will last all day. It claims to be able to create curls in even the most stubbornly straight lashes and, well, that sounds just fantastic to me.

There’s also a priming mascara you can buy to apply first, creating volume before Madame Curl Curl goes in for the kill. I mean curl. Predictably, I’m really keen to try this, as I am with, well, with every new mascara I discover, so I’ll be interested in any feedback from those of you who’ve already been there, done that.

Buy: Napoleon Perdis Madame Curl Curl, $25
