I wear contact lenses, and have sometimes toyed with the idea of getting some coloured ones to see what I’d look like the bright green eyes I’ve always wanted (they’re currently a sort of greeny-brown, although they can turn very green at certain times), but I’m not sure I’d be willing to try the latest contact-craze in Japan, which is for the super-wide lenses pictured above.
These are like regular coloured lenses, but with the coloured are spreading out past the line of the iris, creating that wide-eyed, anime-style look. I have to say, the girl in the picture does look cute, but I’m guessing these would look pretty fake on someone like me!
They cost between $30 – $50 and can be made with your own prescription, so they’re not just cosmetic. What do you think of them, though? (If you like them, they’re available here, although I’m not sure which countries they ship to.)
I was once on medication that gave me very dilated pupils – and was told by a classmate that I ‘looked like a crack addict’. I wonder if these lenses would have the same effect?
Well they’re certainly…different. Not sure how practical they are, actually, but I’m sure you’d turn heads. (By the way, colored contacts don’t always achieve the color you’d like. For example: brown eyes and blue lenses= gray.)
these are horrible. Why would someone want to look like a cartoon character? yuk!
haha i was born with constantly dilated pupils, and my sister has it too…people have actually asked what drugs she’s using! So a lot of people have told me i look like an anime character. But…my irises aren’t as big as the ones in these contacts! I think it’d be fun to get these and wear them occasionally. It’d be fun to wear them to a dance!
I think it’s cool… Not for everyday though. Overall, it’s a cool new way of self-expression and great props for the Halloween and Cosplay conventions
O. M. G. I HAVE TO HAVE SOME!!! My eyes are kind of tiny, so these would be great for me!!! Plus, my friend is dragging me to an anime convention (where I have to wear one of her frilly little geek-anime costumes. UGH!! FASHION ALERT!), and I could wear them.

It would look nice in a picture but if I saw someone walking around with them i’d be freaked out! Besides why would someone want to look like a cartoon?
