Tantruth – a foolproof fake tan?

tantruth Tantruth a foolproof fake tan?

OK, so Tantruth are making some pretty impressive sounding claims about their gel-based fake tanner. They say it’s foolproof, simple to use, quick-drying, natural looking and, most impressively of all, "the easiest fake tan available".

Why is it the easiest fake tan available? Sadly, they don’t say, so we’re left to guess that there must be something particularly stress-free about the gel formula, or, indeed, to try it out for ourselves. Luckily, if you’re feeling ever so slightly skeptical, you don’t have to splash out and buy the full-price products right away, because you can buy a special pack containing trial-size versions of their Self Tan Lotion with Colour Guide, Self Tan Lotion Body and Face and True Soothing Scrub for £7.50 from Beauty Express. And if you do, I hope you’ll come back and tell me what you thought of it!

Love Your Skin Body Sugar Body Scrub from Spa Paradisa

love your skin Love Your Skin Body Sugar Body Scrub from Spa Paradisa

I have to admit, one of the main reasons I’m drawn to this product is because the packaging makes me think of summer, and I’m hanging onto any reminders of summer I can get as the nights start to draw in.

The fact that we don’t tend to have a whole lot of skin on display at this time of year, though, shouldn’t be an excuse to neglect it, and this sugar body scrub sounds like an indulgent way to keep your skin soft and glowing, even in the winter months. It contains Fairtrade shea butter, sweet almond oil, combined with coconut shell and sugar granules to gently exfoliate your skin and moisturise it. And if that’s not enough for you, Spa Paradiso have a whole range of bath and body products in this line to compliment it. Get them at Debenhams.

Dollface Reviews: Boots No7 Cleanse & Care Eye Make up Remover

cleanse and care Dollface Reviews: Boots No7 Cleanse & Care Eye Make up Remover It takes a lot to persuade me away from my Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover, but my second choice, and the product I’m using at the moment due to a free gift with purchase deal (thanks, mum!) is Boots No 7 Cleanse and Care.

Just to be clear, this product is second-best purely in terms of price for me. It’s £7 per bottle compared to just £2.99 for my regular Botanics remover, but both are equally quick and gentle to use, and will remove even waterproof mascara easily. They’re both two-layered liquids, so you need to give them a quick shake before use.

In terms of differences between them, well, the No 7 product is hypo-allergenic, which may make it more suitable for those of you who have easily irritated skin. My mum has very sensitive skin and is allergic to a lot of things, but she swears by Boots No 7 for this reason.

Overall, a fantastic eye makeup remover, and good value for money – just not as good value as my regular one!

NARS Firming Foundation fights wrinkles AND covers them

nars foundation NARS Firming Foundation fights wrinkles AND covers them Fancy a foundation that actually softens your wrinkles as well as concealing them? Yeah, me too, but surely such a product cannot exist?

Well, NARS think it can, and they think their new Firming Foundation is it. Formulated for mature and combination skins (but let’s face it, if it works, we’re all going to try it regardless, aren’t we?) it contains Polypeptide Firming Complex™ (I hate those kind of terms) and antioxidants that will apparently help strengthen the skin and soften the appearance of wrinkles.

All foundation should do that, if you ask me.

How well does it work? To answer that one, you’re going to have to buy it and see – it’s $50 at Nordstrom.

Bliss ‘Problem Salved™’ 20-in-1 Wonder Balm

problem salved 2 Bliss Problem Salved™ 20 in 1 Wonder Balm At first I thought there was a typo in this product’s name, but nope, instead of the more usual 2-in-1, Bliss are, indeed, offering 20 uses in one stick of their Problem Salved Wonder Balm.

And what are those 20 uses, I hear you ask? Well, Nordstrom only suggest a few of them, but I’m sure you can use your imagination for the rest. Chapped lips, straggly eyebrows, craggy cuticles – anything you think a bit of balm would help fix, this is the balm that’ll fix it. It even comes in a handy tube so you can pop it in your handbag or pocket – let’s face it, it seems like the kind of product you’d want to keep with you, no?

Smashbox ‘Pink Power’ Eye & Lip Kit

smashbox pink power Smashbox Pink Power Eye & Lip Kit

Yup, Smashbox’s ‘Pink Power’ kit is definitely pink, but don’t worry – this isn’t just an opportunity to appease your inner Barbie, it’s actually pink for more than one reason. The first, and most obvious, of course, is that pink is pretty – especially when it’s used on the eyes and lips, which is exactly what these shadows and glosses are for.

The other, more serious, reason for all the pinkness is that Smashbox has promised to donate part of the proceeds from the sale of these palettes to the Young Survival Coalition, which helps young women with breast cancer. And good on ‘em, I say.

POP Apple Of The Cheeks

pop cheek stain POP Apple Of The Cheeks

Yes, folks, it’s my current favourite type of product again, although whereas I normally choose to show you lip stains that can also be used on the cheeks, this one is the other way around, being a cheek stain that will also work on your lips. It’s by POP, and it comes in the two shades shown above  – Au Natural and Rouge.  As for the name, "Apple of the Cheeks", well it’s not just a play on the phrase "apple of my eye" – apparently this actually smells like apples too, which gets it even more Brownie points in my book.

Pixi Smokey Eye Wand

smokeyeyes Pixi Smokey Eye Wand The smokey eyed look remains one of the most popular makeup styles around, but every time I attempt it I end up looking, not so much "sultry and sexy" as "like I’ve been punched in both eyes". Woe is me.

This Smokey Eye Wand by Pixi promises an end to my woes, though. It contains a smoke coloured shadow with a shimmer of silver, and the applicator is designed to make that shadow as easy-to-apply as possible. Indeed, the ASOS website, which is selling this, claims it’ll give you "instantly sexy, smokey eyes" in seconds.

I’m still not 100% convinced. I suspect it’ll take more than a nifty little wand to get this look to work on me, but the shade sounds pretty, and if you’d like to try it out for yourself, you can pick one up for £16 at ASOS.

Brow Beaters – helping you beat your eyebrows into submission

brow beaters Brow Beaters helping you beat your eyebrows into submission

First of all, let me reassure you: no, you don’t actually have to wear these. Not all the time, anyway – just when you’re tweezing your eyebrows.

Now, as a contact lens wearer, I have to admit it didn’t actually occur to me how difficult it must be to do things like tweezing if you have a pair of glasses getting in the way. And sure, if your vision isn’t too bad, you can always just whip them off, but if you really need the extra help to catch those pesky little hairs, that could create more problems than it solves.

Enter the Brow Beaters, created by Marjorie Moyse, the owner of a successful Canadian hair and beauty salon, who had come up against this problem herself and decided to do something about it.

The picture above is pretty self-explanatory: basically these are glasses that will allow you to see what you’re doing, without getting in the way while you’re doing it. You can’t put your own prescription in them, sadly, but they do come in four different strengths (+1.50, +2.00, +2.50 and +3.00), as well as in a range of colours.

Like them? Think you’d use them? They cost £10 per pair and are available from Eyewear Europe.
