Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain – like eyelash dye, in a mascara tube

Now, here’s a product I’m just dying (geddit?) to try out…
Tarte’s 4 Day Stay Lash Stain may look like a mascara, but as the name suggests, it isn’t one. Instead, this is a stain which will colour your lashes for – yes, you’ve guessed it – four days. So it’s basically like a temporary eyelash dye in a mascara tube, as far as I can tell.
Tarte say this is completely water-resistant, and will last even if you go swimming or take a shower with it on. They don’t say whether you can wear mascara with it, but Sephora staff advise against using an eyelash curler with it, and refer to it as "a mascara" so perhaps not. Not being able to use mascara with it would put me off - remember, this is colour only, so it won’t do any of that thickening/listing/separating/curling stuff that mascara does for you, although it does contain ProVitamin B5, which they claim works to thicken hair.
I dye my eyelashes anyway, so this will presumably be of limited use to me, and of no use at all to those of you blessed with dark lashes naturally. That doesn’t stop me wanting to try it, though, and I’m thinking it could be a good stop-gap for those weeks when my lashes need to be re-dyed, but I don’t have the time or inclination to do it.
What do you think of this idea, folks? Anyone tried it? Will you be trying it? If so, it’s $18 at Sephora.

I tried it. I didn’t like it at all. It doesn’t really stain the lashes first of all. When I think of stain I am thinking that it will simply darken my lashes, but the lash texture itself will stay the same.
This doesn’t work that way. Yes, it does darken, but your lashes get stiff JUST LIKE WITH MASCARA. So when you sleep in it your lashes get clumpled together, etc.
I wanted it to look really naturally just dark. This is a no buy in my book.
I just bought it… and ick. I thought it would just be a dye, and leave your eyelashes soft. I was so excited… but then… uck. I put it on, let it dry, and realized there is no way you could put mascara over it without it being all clumpy and gross. It has it’s own texture. Then i tried washing it off with soap (i figured it wouldn’t work, but thought it was worth a try), and after getting my lashes wet and rubbing them a little bit, they got totally clumpy. like REALLY clumpy, like i couldn’t open my eyes because they were stuck together. I didn’t have any of the oily makeup remover pads to take it off so i had to sleep in it. It looked better in the morning but still gunky. I wish I could return it…. but even more I wish there was a product like this that actually worked the way we want it to!
