Natalie Imbruglia goes blonde

spl56814 0081 Natalie Imbruglia goes blonde

I’ve had a bit of a girl-crush on Natalie Imbruglia ever since she appeared in Neighbours more years ago than I care to remember now, but I’m not completely sold on this new blonde hairdo, which she unveiled at the Virgin Unite Gala last night. She’s still gorgeous, but something about this looks a little too old for her somehow, and I can’t quite put my finger on why.

What do you think? Like it?

Lancôme Ôscillation now available to buy!

lancmescillation Lancôme Ôscillation now available to buy! Good news for my fellow mascara obsessive! Lancôme’s Ôscillation, the brand’s very first vibrating mascara, launches today, so if you didn’t manage to get hold of it during it’s one-day exclusive release earlier this year, now’s your chance.

As mentioned previously, this has a special vibrating brush, which claims to offer 360 degree coating on each lash. Apparently it takes a bit of getting used to, so Lancome have sent us these tips:

–The key to great results with Ôscillation is a certain application technique. Apply in slow, straight and steady strokes.

–Don’t zig-zag and don’t wiggle!

–Don’t overpump the wand. There’s plenty of product on there for multiple coats.

–If at first you don’t succeed…don’t give up! Ôscillation takes a few tries to get the hang of it.

–Ôscillation is great for the lower lashes, so don’t forget to apply there.

This is $34 if you’re buying in the US, and, rather dissapointingly, £28 (which is around  $45) in the UK. Available direct from Lancome or from department stores. I’ll be waiting until pay day for mine, but if you’ve bought this, I’d love to hear what you think of it!

Philosophy’s Classic Cookbook

philosopyclassiccookbook Philosophys Classic Cookbook

OK, I’m starting to have serious trouble here trying to keep up with the rate at which Philosophy release gift sets containing their shampoo/shower gel/bubble bath mixtures. This is called The Classic Cookbook, and celebrates both the upcoming holiday season and Sephora’s 10th birthday (Happy Birthday, Sephora!) with ten delicious-sounding products: Strawberry Milkshake, Red Velvet Cake, Pumpkin Pie, Senorita Margarita, Coconut Frosting, Cinnamon Buns, Double Rich Hot Cocoa, Raspberry Sorbet, Vanilla Birthday Cake, and Melon Daiquiri.

There’s also a recipe book, should you wish to try your hand at making something that’ll taste delicious as well as smelling delicious. I don’t think £40 is a bad price for all those products: if you don’t think so either, it’s available only at Sephora.

This Works Eye Cracker with eye serum

eye serum This Works Eye Cracker with eye serum

Oh, the Christmas beauty gifts are coming thick and fast now! This one is by This Works and while the packaging is a little much considering all it contains is one product – a 5ml eye serum – that’s still an awful lot more appealing to me than a paper hat, plastic moustache and all the other things commonly found inside Christmas crackers. In fact, I’d rather have eye serums on my table any day…

If you would too, this is £10 from ASOS.

Dollface Reviews: John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze in Radiant Red

john frieda colour glaze Dollface Reviews: John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze in Radiant Red As some of you may know, I’m a natural redhead. I’ve never been remotely tempted to dye my hair (well, there was that one time when I was 16, but we don’t talk about that…), and fully intend to be a redhead until the day I die.

So, what am I doing reviewing a colour glaze, you may ask?

Umm, good question. To be completely honest, I bought this purely on a whim. I was in Boots a few weeks ago buying shampoo and John Frieda’s Radiant Red Colour Glaze caught my eye. It’s a colour-depositing glaze that can be used in the shower to basically “pep up” red hair, whether coloured or natural, and because my hair’s been looking a little dull recently, I decided to give it a go. My hair actually has a lot of blonde through it (even more so in the summer, when I get a blonde streak at the front if I spend a lot of time in the sun), and I thought it might be fun to try being a more vivid red than usual for a change. Read on to see how I got on…

Dollface of the Day: Paz Vega at Spike TV’s 2008 Scream Awards

spl56357 0151 Dollface of the Day: Paz Vega at Spike TVs 2008 Scream Awards

Her dress was a little too pink and shiny for my tastes, but I loved the retro-glam makeup look on Spanish actress Paz Vega at Spike TV’s 2008 Scream awards, and I particularly liked the 40s hair do, complete with rolled fringe and chignon. I’ve wanted to try out this kind of ‘do myself for a long time now, and maybe this is just the inspiration I needed.

The matt red lips, black flicked eyeliner and strong eyebrows, meanwhile, aren’t anything new or particularly special, but combined with the hair, I think it works. There’s a close-up of her hair after the jump…

Dollface Reviews: Remington Shine Therapy Hair Straighteners

shine therapy Dollface Reviews: Remington Shine Therapy Hair Straighteners

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but thanks to a bad haircut or three (or, OK, four…) this year, my hair straighteners are my BFFs right now. This has left me between a rock and hard place, though, because as we all know, constant straightening may help you tame your hair, but it doesn’t exactly do it any favours when in comes to the condition of it. The result? My style looks fine, but the hair itself is a little the worse for wear, which is why, when Remington offered to let me try out their Shine Therapy straighteners, I almost bit their hands off…

The idea here is simple yet brilliant: these are ceramic straighteners, but the ceramic plates are porous, and have been infused with vitamin E and other conditioning agents, which means that they’ll leave your hair looking sleek and shiny, rather than straight but dull.

So, whats it like to use?

Dollface Reviews: Ralph Lauren ‘Notorious’

When I mentioned Ralph Lauren’s new ‘Notorious’ fragrance last month I hadn’t had the opportunity to actually try it out. Well, this week I did, and it’s every bit as lovely as the sumptuous marketing campaign suggests.

Going by the name, packaging and the old-style glamour of the adverts, I was expecting something very heavy and musky, perhaps along the same lines as Poison or Obsession -  very "femme fatale" and a little bit dark, if that makes sense.

Uh-uh. Notorious is actually on the sweet side, which isn’t surprising when you read the product description: notes of blackcurrant, chocolate cosmos, patchouli and musk make up this scent, and account for the lingering sweetness. Unlike some sweet scents, however, this is anything but sickly and not at all cloying: I can’t detect the chocolate or vanilla notes at all, and so there’s nothing foody about it.

This is a scent that lingers for a long time: I applied it in the morning and could still smell it in the late afternoon. More importantly, it still smelt the same by late afternoon, which is a Very Good Thing.

The short film advertising this is shown above – let me know what you think!

Lindsay Lohan: when fake tan goes wrong

lindsay lohan Lindsay Lohan: when fake tan goes wrong

Oh dear. I cringed inwardly when I saw this picture of Lindsay Lohan at the Diesel xXx 30th anniversary “Rock and Roll Circus" on Saturday night, because I’m pretty sure I’ve done this myself at some point. Well, the feet are the hardest part to fake tan without streaking, no? And sometimes it just makes sense to, you know, leave them natural. Or actually, maybe not.. Not when it makes you look like you’re wearing a pair of white socks, anyway. Note to Lindsay: invest in a bottle of fake tan makeup. It’ll help  avoid those "tan sock" moments…
