DollfaceReviews: Urban Decay lipstick in ‘Buzzkill’

Urban decay lipstick DollfaceReviews: Urban Decay lipstick in Buzzkill

Continuing with my Urban Decay review-fest, today I'm wearing their creamy lipstick in 'Buzzkill', with 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in 'Wicked'.

The lipstick is described as "dusky rose", but when I first opened it, it looked a lot pinker than I would normally wear. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, though, so I put it on, and was surprised by how much I liked the shade. It's a little brighter than this photo suggests, but will be great for summer and seemed to brighten up my whole face.

The consistency is creamy and moisturising, so it's comfortable to wear, and so far it's stayed put through several cups of coffee and a ham sandwich, which makes it a bit special because I'm used to applying lipstick only to have it vanish with the first coffee of the day.

The 24/7 Lip Pencil in 'Wicked' proved to be a nice match for this, and it did indeed "glide on" easily, so was easy to use and has just a hint of shimmer, which is always fine by me.

Jean Paul Gaultier CLASSIQUE Solid Perfume Necklace

Classique solid perfume Jean Paul Gaultier CLASSIQUE Solid Perfume Necklace

Yesterday, when I mentioned that my regular perfume is running out, what I didn't say is that the perfume in question is Jean Paul Gaultier's Classique. It's been my signature scent for a long time now (although recently I've been contemplating ditching it in favour of stablemate Fragile. Clearly I have a "thing" about  Gaultier perfumes…), but this is the first time I've seen a solid version of it. This follows in the current trends to make solid perfumes into pendants, and while I wouldn't buy the pendant on its own, the fact that it's filled with one of my favourite scents makes me much more likely to want to buy it – well, it's that bit easier  to touch up your perfume throughout the day if you're wearing it around your neck, isn't it?

This is exclusive to Sephora, where it's $56.

Be a bathing beauty with Normandie Keith’s Reinvent, Recapture, Rejuvenate and Radiant range

normandie keiths reinvent Be a bathing beauty with Normandie Keiths Reinvent, Recapture, Rejuvenate and Radiant range

I'm a bit of a sucker for anything even vaguely retro, so the bathing beauties on the tubs of Normandie Keith's bath ranges naturally appealed to me!

The products sound pretty good too: pictured is the "Float My Boat" bubble bath, Butter Me Up body cream (both scented with Sicilian lemon and bergamot) and a 1940s style floral bathing cap, to inject a bit of fun into your bath time routine.

The range also contains hand creams, fake tan and more, and are all exclusive to Tesco, so keep an eye out for them next time you're doing the weekly shop!

Kaia House Speak Freely for Humanity Vanilla Lip Balm

Speak freely for humanity Kaia House Speak Freely for Humanity Vanilla Lip Balm

This little lip balm has much more going for it than you might think. As well as being  87% organic ingredients (including organic vanilla, which gives it its flavour), its makers, Kaia House will also contribute a dollar from each purchase to humanitarian organizations, such as The Carter Center.  Considering it'll only cost you $4.50, that seems like quite a good deal, and hey, you always need another lip balm, don't you? Or is that just me?

Dollface Reviews: Urban Decay Surreal Skin Liquid Foundation and 24/7 Concealer

Urban decay foundation revi Dollface Reviews: Urban Decay Surreal Skin Liquid Foundation and 24/7 Concealer

I'm having a very "Urban Decay" kind of week this week as I finally get round to testing out some of the products I've had on my wish list for months now, and starting off with the brand's Surreal Skin Liquid Foundation and 24/7 Concealer.

First of all, the Sureal Skin Liquid Foundation, which comes in Urban Decay's trademark purple bottle, and is a thick, creamy consistency which is said to give "medium" coverage, but which I find fairly thick (this is a good thing – it doesn't look thick when it's on, but it will cover any imperfections!). I've been using 'Illusion', which is the lightest colour available, and perfect for my pale skin. So far, I'm impressed: although thick, it goes on easily and the coverage is excellent – so much so that I haven't needed to use quite as much concealer as I usually do!

Once on, the foundation gives a dewy finish, but it's not particularly shiny or greasy looking. The only thing I'm not so keen on is the smell, which isn't great, but which doesn't linger once it's on, thankfully!

As for the24/7 Concealer – I wrote about this back in July and said I thought it would give a more precise application than most other forms of concealer and, well, I was right! I love this: the fact that it comes in a pencil makes you think it's going to be dry and hard to use but actually the opposite is true – it's super-creamy and glides on smoothly. I'd been mostly interested in this for covering spots and other small flaws, and yes, it's great for that, but I've also been using it under my eyes and have been really impressed with it. I have bad shadows under my eyes and normally have to use a concealer with YSL's Touche Eclat over the top, but 24/7 is enough on its own, and is actually one of the best concealers I've used, so definitely one I'll be buying again.

Dollface Reviews: Armani Code Pour Femme EDP

Armani code Dollface Reviews: Armani Code Pour Femme EDP

My regular perfume is running dangerously low, so it's time for a replacement, and this week I've been trying out Armani Code.

Now, I'm fairly fussy about perfume, and when I like one I tend to stick to it for…well, for a long time, let's say. So I was actually quite surprised by how much I like this, and not just because of the pretty purple bottle!

Code contains notes of Blood Orange, Ginger, Pear Sorbet, Sambac Jasmine, Orange Blossom, Seringa Flower, Lavender Honey, Precious Woods Complex and Vanilla. It's sweet, but not sickeningly so, and the jasmine is the most prevalent note for me. There's a bit of a musky undertone to it too, which appeals to me, and this scent is also available for men (Armani Code), so if you like your scent to match your man's, they could make a nice Valentine's gift.

This also passed the Mr Dollface test, so it gets the thumbs up from us both. It's £34 from Beauty Counter Direct.

Handmade Beauty: Hand grenade soap

Hand grenade soap Handmade Beauty: Hand grenade soap

Just to prove that not all beauty products have to be cute and girlie and look like flowers or cakes, this hand grenade soap from Etsy seller "stinkybomb" kicks all kinds of ass. It's cast from an actual WW2 grenade, and as well as looking good, its ingredients include aloe and olive oil, so it should be nicely moisturising too. And who doesn't want a soap that looks like a deadly weapon, I ask you?

Catwalk Beauty: White nail polish at Chanel Haute Couture S/S 09

Chanel Catwalk Beauty: White nail polish at Chanel Haute Couture S/S 09

Black nail polish has been popular for what feels like forever, but that could be about to change if Chanel's Haute Couture show this week is anything to go by: all of the models came down the catwalk in stark white nail polish – to match the stark white everything else, presumably.

I've only just managed to reconcile myself to the idea of dark polish on the fingers (I always like to be last on the bandwagon) and I think it'll possibly take me just as long to come round to the idea of white: I'm not sure why, but there's something about it that's just never really appealed to me, although it did look good on the catwalk, especially given that almost everything else was white too.

You'll find more pictures from the show over at The Fashion Police, but tell me: what do you think of white nails?

Dollface Reviews: Barry M Deluxe Eyeshadow Kit

Barry m eyeshadow kit Dollface Reviews: Barry M Deluxe Eyeshadow Kit

Eyeshadow kits are something I don't often buy, because I tend to find that most of them come stocked with loads of colours that I'll just never wear.

Barry M's Deluxe Eyeshadow Kit is different, though, becuse for £9.95 you get a selection of colours I'd consider "staples" – black and white, of course (essential for that smoky eye look I'm quickly becoming obsessed with), four different browny/gold shades which will work with most complexions, plus a selection of green, purple and navy, none of which are too outrageous to be worn easily, and I say this as someone who doesn't wear a lot of eyeshadow, so trust me, these really are colours I'd use!

Once on, the pigments aren't too deep, so you can either go for a subtle wash of colour or layer the powder on for a more dramatic look. I found this handy because it's not too expensive, and has allowed me to experiment with some looks I wouldn't otherwise have tried. Take a look under the jump to see the green and gold colours on…

Dollface of the Day: Dita Von Teese at the Dior Couture show in Paris

dita von teese Dollface of the Day: Dita Von Teese at the Dior Couture show in Paris

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Dita Von Teese and her retro-glam look - in fact, I'd walk around like this all the time too if I could possibly get away with it – but I thought she looked particularly lovely at this week's Dior Couture show in Paris. The red lipstick and black eyeliner is a Dita staple, but I think the floral fascinator (if that's what it is) is the perfect finishing touch, don't you?

Her makeup here is actually pretty simple, and it's a style I adore for evenings, although it can be a little OTT for day wear – unless, of course, you happen to be Dita Von Teese, in which case there's no such thing as "over the top", is there?
