Monthly Archives: February 2009Dollface Reviews: Creme Team Cremesheen Glass
It was my birthday recently, and one very lovely lady gave me a giftcard for a well known department store. Said well known department store has a MAC concession in my local branch. Can you guess where this story is going….? I was so very tempted by all the goodies on offer (actually, who am I kidding, when am I not tempted?), but it was the new Cremesheen Glass from the Creme Team collection that won me and my giftcard over. I picked it up in the delightfully sounding 'Melt in your Mouth' shade; a juicy, pretty-as-a-picture delicate rose pink. I was sold. It was one of those 'I -simply- must- have- this- or- my -life- as- I -know -it-will -not- be -worth -living' moments. So, naturally, not wanting to tempt fate, I gave in. Unlike the iconic MAC Lipglasses, the Cremesheen glass is not sticky or tacky in the slightest; the clue is in the name people, it glides onto your lips like a dream and feels decadently creamy. Staying power is impressive and it doesn't dry out five minutes after application. It was a definitely a case of my lips but better. Much better. At £12.72 it's not going to be the budget choice, but if you're looking for a great mid range lipgloss that gives gloss without gloop then this little beauty is definitely worth investigating! Original Bombshell retro-style hand treatments
Now, this is the kind of sight that's guaranteed to make my heart beat faster! I mean, just look at it! It's pink. It's retro. It looks totally like ice cream. Oh, and it's a cosmetic product. I'm drooling here. These are Retro Bombshell's new hand treatments, Primp and Pamper" Hand Sugar Scrub and "Spoil Me" Hand Crème. Both are vegan made, with natural, organic ingredients, and retail for $14 each. Buy them here – and be careful not to eat them… Lancome Genifique – 7 day update
I have a confession to make: I never really expect very much from new skin care products. With a few notable exceptions, they never tend to live up to the claims on the box (or in the advertising) and I inevitably end up, if not exactly disappointed, then distinctly underwhelmed. Which is why, when I found myself sitting at my desk a few days ago and absent-minded stroking my own cheek, I was just a little bit surprised. But you see, my skin felt so soft. And smooth! And so, a day or later, I found myself doing it again. Yes, it was Lancome Genifique, living up to its claims of giving me noticeably better skin within seven days – and I was pretty damn impressed! As for wrinkles, well I don't really have those (yet) and I can't say there's been a difference so far in the fine lines on my skin, but I CAN say my skin has felt wonderfully soft and smooth this past week, and I've been really pleased with the results. I'll be continuing to use this, and will update again in a few weeks. In the meantime, there's more information at the Lancome website.

Celebrity Beauty: Katy Perry’s amazing false eyelashes
Katy Perry may have alarmed The Fashion Police with her choice of outfit as she signed autographs at the Manchester Academy yesterday, but I love the fun she always seems to have with her makeup, and just look at those false eyelashes! OK, they're not for everyday wear, but when you're Katy Perry, I reckon you can get away with this kind of thing, and I also like the lipstick and glittery eyes. With her porcelain skin and dark hair, she looks a little bit like Snow White here, albeit a Snow White with a penchant for big eyelashes!

Garnier release Vital Restore anti-ageing skincare range with orchid extracts
Garnier's new Vital Restore skincare range uses orchid extracts, which is rather appropriate, because as well as having soft, smooth leaves (which is how my skin looks in my dreams), they also have long lifespans, which is exactly what this aims to do for your skin, helping to combat the effects of collagen and elastin depletion. Orchids are also very good at storing water, apparently, and this, combined with soy bio proteins helps to rehydrate the skin and generally make it look younger and healthier. And we could all be doing with some of that, couldn't we? This range is actually aimed at mature skin – the clue to that is in the image above: as you can see, the products also aims to reduce the appearance of age spots. Well, I don't quite fall into that category (yet), and have no age spots of my own to try it out on, but I do have samples of the Day Cream and Beauty Serum on the desk in front of me, so although I can't tell you how well it works on age spots, I can tell you that it smells gorgeous – it doesn't quite remind me of orchids, exactly, but it does smell very pleasant, which is always a good thing. I can also tell you that the Day Cream is satisfyingly rich and creamy, but sinks into the skin quickly (yes, I've tried it. It's never too early to start fighting the signs of ageing, you know!), while the serum is of a thinner consistency, but also sinks in nicely. Prices are £9.99 for the day cream, night cream and eye cream, and £11.99 for the serum, and if you want to find out more, you can visit the Garnier website here.

Roseflower Radiance Stick from The Body Shop
"Radiance" is one of those words that's guaranteed to set my heart a-flutter when it comes to cosmetics. Tell me something will give me dewy skin or a radiant complexion, and that product will probably soon be mine. Yes, I'm a total sucker for advertising. And why yes, it does get expensive from time to time! Anyway. The Body Shop's new Roseflower Radiance Stick has my name all over it (although not literally, obviously, because that would be weird). It goes on as a cream, but turns to a powder on contact with your skin, and you use it as a highlighter, to create a "a sensational luminescent effect", according to its makers. It's suitable for all types and tones of skin, and is currently reduced to $17. Get it here.

Get 3 for 2 on Soap & Glory at Boots
There are lots of reasons to love Boots, but I tend to love them most of all for their fabulous 3 for 2 offers, which have a weird knack of coming along right when I need them, and are the reason my bathroom cabinet is normally groaning with products from the Protect & Perfect range. Hopefully it'll soon ALSO be groaning due to the added weight of some Soap & Glory: they're currently offering 3 for 2 on selected products from the range, and if you're as much of a sucker for quirky names and retro packaging as I am, you can browse those products here.

Eye Slices: like cucumber, only better, apparently
I expect most of us have probably done the old "cucumber on the eyes" routine, in a bid to reduce puffiness and dark circles, and generally make us look youthful and beautiful. In fact, maybe you still do. Well, this product is basically a fancy-pants version of that. They're called "Eye Slices" and they are – yes, you guessed it! – slices for your eyes. You press them on, lie back and relax for five minutes, and you'll emerge looking less puffy, less wrinkly, and just all-round rejuvenated. So, what do they have that you can't get in a slice of cucumber? (Or a tea bag, for that matter.) The miracle of science, basically. Or, as they put it: "cryogel polymer technology". Yeah, they lost me… When you know that they contain aloe, things start to become a little clearer. Aloe, of course, is known for its cooling and soothing properties, and these little slices also contain moisturisers to nourish the fine skin around the eye area, too. Each slice can be re-used up to ten times, and they cost $20 with the case, or $15 for a refill. Get them here.

Oscars Beauty 2009: Sarah Jessica Parker
Sarah Jessica Parker was my choice for Best Dressed at last night's Oscars, in a to-die-for sparkly Dior Couture dress. Colour me jealous. I thought her hair, worn down and in its natural curls, was the perfect complement to the dress, and she also chose sparkly, smoky eye makeup too. Well, if you've got a sparkly dress, you may as well have eyes to match, no? Gorgeous.

2009 Oscars Beauty: Freida Pinto
I watched Slumdog Millionaire for the first time last week (yeah, I know, I'm behind the times) and was mesmerized by Freida Pinto's beautiful almond eyes and perfect teeth. She's a natural beauty, and for her first Oscars outing, she chose to let that natural beauty shine, with a look that used a little bit of smoky brown on the eyes and kept everything else pretty minimal.
