Oscars Beauty 2009: Angelina Jolie

Spl82600 003[1] Oscars Beauty 2009: Angelina Jolie

We looked at Jennifer Aniston's hair and makeup, so now here's her arch rival Angelina Jolie, looking as effortlessly beautiful as ever. She's not one to really try anything new when it comes to hair and makeup, but tends to stick to what she knows work. Here, she's gone for a half up/half down do which is backcombed at the front to give a bit of volume, and left in loose waves at the back.

Her makeup, meanwhile, sticks to the nude, shiny lips and black eyeliner she tends to go for. Her look here is just a little bit retro: understated, but with a just a hint of 60s-style glamour around the eyes.

Oh, and love those earrings, Angie!

2009 Oscars Beauty: Jennifer Aniston

Spl82404 012[2] 2009 Oscars Beauty: Jennifer Aniston

While Best Actress Kate Winslet had not a hair out of place at last night's Oscars, Jennifer Aniston went for a completely different look, with her hair down and loosely styled. I've read posts from some reviewers who've thought this look just wasn't right for the Oscars, and that Jennifer was in dire need of a haircut, but again, I'm going to have to beg to differ: I love her hair like this, with a simple pleat across the brown, and think it's very typical of her relaxed style.

The same could be said of her makeup here: Jennifer always has that healthy, sun kissed look about her, and she's kept things fairly simple, emphasising her eyes with black liner, and with a bit of bronzer and blush to finish things off. It's very "her", and she looked happy and relaxed, which always helps!

2009 Oscars Beauty: Kate Winslet

Spl82554 021[2] 2009 Oscars Beauty: Kate Winslet

She won the Best Actress Oscar, but did Kate Winslet have the best hair and makeup at last night's ceremony?

Well, some Fashion Police readers have criticised this rigid hairdo for being just a little too helmet-like, but I actually thought it worked pretty well for Kate. It helped give her something of a Grace Kelly look: ice cool and elegant, and as Gokarm commented over at The Fashion Police, at least she wouldn't have had to worry about having a hair out of place!

Kate's makeup, meanwhile, was kept fairly low key: bronzer, a bit of eyeliner and some rose-pink lipstick all went for a polished, but not overdone look. What did you think?

More from MyFace Cosmetics: MyMix foundation, Gigabite Lipstick and ‘Band of Gold’ eyeshadow trio

Myface cosmetics trial More from MyFace Cosmetics: MyMix foundation, Gigabite Lipstick and Band of Gold eyeshadow trio

Another day, another lot of MyFace Cosmetics products for me to play with!

Today I'm wearing the MyMix foundation in 'Fair – 03' Gigabite lipstick in shade 252 – 'Get Ready' and the eyeshadow trio in 'Band of Gold'.

First up, the MyMix foundation. Now, I have to confess, I was skeptical about this. Because my skin is so pale I have lots of problems finding foundation which is the right shade for it, and when I saw this in the tube I was convinced it would be too dark for me.

MyFace do say that all of the shades within the range created for your skin tone will suit you, though, so I dutifully slapped it on, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it actually DID work. It's maybe a fraction darker than I would like, but not enough to stop me wearing it – amazing!

This is a fairly light coverage foundation, and I would normally use a powder over the top to take some of the shine off my forehead, but I was in a rush today and didn't bother, so please excuse the shine!

Read on after the jump for more on the  lipstick and eyeshadow…

Dollface Reviews: MyFace Cosmetics – foolproof colour for your skintone

This week I’ve been trying out some products by MyFace Cosmetics. This is the makeup line by Charlotte Tilbury which I mentioned briefly last week, and it’s one of those simple-but-effective ideas there really should be more of in the world.

The line is split into three ranges: fair, medium and medium/dark, and the idea is that you choose which tone is closest to yours, and every product within that range will suit you. So it basically takes the guesswork out of choosing colours. The products themselves, meanwhile, include foundations, lipsticks, blushers, lip pencils and eye shadows (the eye shadows will work on any skin tone, of course), mascaras and more, so everything is more or less covered.

I have no question about which skin tone I am: I’m very definitely “fair”, so needless to say, that’s the range I’ve been trying out. This has been something of an eye-opener, actually. As someone whose colouring makes it difficult to find products to suit, I have fairly set ideas about which colours will and won’t work on me, so it was interesting to try out the MyFace  range, which included some colours said to be suitable for “fair” skin tones which I wouldn’t have thought would’ve worked on me.

Most of the time, this was successful: the ‘Paradiso Pink’ blusher looked too bright in the box, but I loved the way it looked on, and while some of the lip colours aren’t ones I’d wear (there’s obviously an element of personal taste involved here – just because something is a “good” colour for you, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll like the way it looks!) most of the colours were pretty well-chosen. I’d hesitate to call it “foolproof”, but it’s definitely a good starting point, especially for those who aren’t quite sure which kind of colours to buy – or who just want to experiment.

Lancome Oscillation: Not Just Good, but Great Vibrations from Lancome’s Newest Magic Wand.

Oscillation Lancome Oscillation: Not Just Good, but Great Vibrations from Lancomes Newest Magic Wand.

Apologies for my absence recently dollfaces, things have been a little hectic chez moi of late. But, I'm back. And? I bring tidings of my new mascara purchase.

Yes, I know, another mascara post. But this is in a class of its own.I'm talking about Lancome Oscillation.

I'd heard all the hype surrounding it of course, I mean, it's a motorised mascara, how was there not going to be hype; time was when we thought rubber brushes were something special. Oh, wait, that was only a couple of years ago…Anyway, I was out at the weekend and stopped by the Lancome counter. Along with their new lipgloss and a gorgeous blusher, one of the things I walked away with was Osciallation.

What can I say, I'm easily pursuaded.Am I ever glad I did! It's incredible. In fact I can not think of enough superlatives to do this mascara justice, it's good people. The vibrating brush takes a little getting used too (all of a few seconds!), but once you've mastered the technique (simple really: push into lashes and let the oscillations work their magic) you'll wonder what took the cosmetic bods so long to come up with this.No more wiggling your brush through your lashes ladies, this does all the hard (!) work for you.

I didn't really have any expectations of this mascara, I bought it more for the novelty factor, so I was more than pleasantly surprised to discover the effect it had on my lashes after just one solitary coat.My lashes were long. And? Huge. Make that enormous. The colour is an intense rich black makes lashes look full and thick.

Ok, so at £28 it's certainly not cheap, but if I could only use one mascara ever again (perish the thought!), this would undoubtedly be it.

Eyelure to launch Girls Aloud false eyelashes

Spl6922 010[2] Eyelure to launch Girls Aloud false eyelashes

As a not-so-secret Girls Aloud fan (look, it's good workout music, OK?), this has to be my favourite piece of beauty-related news today…

Eyelure, makers of everything from eyelash dye to false lashes, have joined forces with Girls Aloud to create a new line of 'Girls Aloud' branded false eyelashes. Five different pairs will be created, one for each girl, and each reflecting the particular style of the person who "inspired" it.

These will be available from mid-April, and I'll have pictures of the lashes themselves when they become available. I already want a "Cheryl" pair..

Catwalk Beauty: The Barbie Fashion Show at New York Fashion Week

Spl80492 003[3] Catwalk Beauty: The Barbie Fashion Show at New York Fashion Week

So far, my favourite show at New York Fashion Week has to bethe Barbie Fashion Show, which was notable, not only for the clothes, but for the fantastic job of makeup and hair. OK, so you possibly wouldn't want to recreate these looks exactly as they're shown here, but they made for a wonderful spectacle, and you can always take certain elements and try the out at home, in a more toned-down way. My favourite? The big, bouffant hair you'll see under the jump…

Lancome Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate – a sneak peek!

Thanks to the effects of the cold I mentioned last week, my skin has been looking rougher than I've seen it in a long time recently, so you can only imagine my excitement when this little package turned up at Dollface Towers on Friday afternoon:

Lancome genifique Lancome Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate a sneak peek!

This is Lancome's new 'Genifique' – a "Youth Activating Concentrate" which has been created in conjunction with the hospital centre at Quebec's University of Laval. It won't be available to buy until this April, but Lancome have very kindly sent me some to try before then, and let me tell you, it couldn't have come at a better time.

So, what is it?

Genifique is basically a serum (although there will be an exfoliator available too when it launches). It comes in a pretty glass bottle, with a medicine dropper-like applicator which you use to collect the product and then apply it to your face.

The science bit:

Genifique is designed to stimulate the activity of the genes which help produce proteins. As we age, these slow down, meaning that less protein is releases, and we look older and wrinklier. Genifique aims to speed-up the process of protein production again, helping the skin look younger. It's suitable for all ages and all skin types, and is used as the first step in your skincare regime, before you apply moisturiser etc.

Lancome say the first results are visible within seven days. I've only been using it for two, so it's too early to say whether it'll do what it claims to, but it's a nice product to use. While the "dropper" is just a little bit on the fiddly side, the products itself is absorbed into the skin almost immediately: it's light and totally non-greasy, and makes a good base for other products.

This will cost $78 when it launches in April. Check back soon, though, to find out how I get on with it!

909939 tissue box How to look good when you have the cold makeup tips from Charlotte Tilbury

I'm having a Bad Face Day. Actually, scratch that: I'm having a bad face week. You see, I have the cold. (I also have a huge spot the size of a second head, smack in the middle of my forehead, but that's another post altogether…) As well as making me feel like hell, it's also been making me look like hell: red nose, dull skin – oh, and the tickly cough has stopped me sleeping too well, which means I get giant eye bags and dark shadows into the bargain.

No, I'm not looking my best, it has to be said.

At times like this, however, I thank the Lord that I'm a makeup addict. It means I have at least a few weapons at my disposal to try and beat the Bad Face Day blues. Here, makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury gives us her tips for how to look good even when you don't feel it – take a look under the jump to read them!
