I don't know about you lovely ladies, but this Dollface has four essential (and when I say essential, I actually mean: my-life-would be-utterly-pointless-without-these) products that she must have in her makeup bag/bottomless handbag at all times.
So, without further ado (or anything else for that matter), I give to you: My Holy Grail Items.
This cult wonder balm is the best thing bar none for ridding your lips of dryness and the dreaded "flakies". Since discovering Carmex just over four years ago (seriously, what took me so long?), I've not let this little yellow pot out of my sight. Admittedly, the smell might not appeal to everyone, but I find it oddly comforting. The tingling sensation is addictive too! A bargain friendly beauty that does what it says on the tin. Literally.
I cannot get enough of this stuff. I've had my current bottle for just over a year, and it's still going strong. This is my go-to highlighter when I need sculpting and illuminating, and, in my humble opinion nothing else even comes close to it, and trust me I've tried a lot.
This is one of Benefit's best sellers and a favourite among celebrities- apparently a certain Ms.Kylie Minogue is a big fan. No other highlighter has quite the same consistency as High Beam; they're either too thin or too thick, too matt or too sparkly. But this? Is perfect cheekbones in a bottle. And who doesn't want that?
Oh how I love my Hypnôse. Let me count the ways. On second thoughts, perhaps not, I'd be here all day. This is a fairly recent discovery for me, but has accelarated it's way onto my Holy Grail list. I spent years (not to mention pounds) on mascaras. I was determined to find "The One" and I wasn't going to stop until I'd found it. Or I'd run out of money; whichever came first.
So it was very happy day indeed when I tried this out for the first time. I swear I could hear the Hallelujah chorus ringing loud and clear when I applied it to my lashes. My lashes were long, full, natural, and just plain gorgeous. It was one of those exceedingly rare moments where my lashes actually looked like those in the (whisper it) adverts. Lash Insertions not required, thank you very much.
In the highly unlikely event that you only buy one mascara ever again (a terrifying prospect, I know), this should definitely be a contender.
Only released last Summer, Vaseline Rosy Lips has already won my affection. Unlike that other pot of perfection, Carmex, Rosy Lips' doesn't get rid of flakes (well, not for me anyway) but it keeps lips wonderfully soft and smooth after Carmex has done it's job. And unlike the original Vasline Lip care, Rosy Lips adds a delicate pink tint to lips. Oh, and did I mention it smells divine too?

Hi Jen,
I bought High Beam today after having a Benefit makeover. I don’t know how I survived without it before! I also bought Liz Earle’s Cleanse and Polish, and Olay’s Complete Radiance too. All are great recommendations from you, thanks very much you star!
It’s amazing isn’t it! So glad you like it, and that the other recommendations are working for you too!
Thanks for the tips, now to figure out how to apply a highlighter… by the way, I have a lip conditioner from MAC that works the best out of everything I’ve tried so far for dry lips.

Sonya- I dot a bit of High Beam onto my cheekbones (3 diagonal dots) and then blend in with my ring finger.
Or, alternatively, draw a 3 from the top of your temple, bring it in to your cheek (as if going towards your nose), and back out under the cheekbone.
This help to contour where light naturally hits the face.
Hope that helps?
I’m with you on high beam! Its also one of my must haves! It may be a bit epensive but worth every pound and it last forever!
Do not use carmex. It is addictive and harmful for your lips when used for long amounts of time.
HM- That’s interesting I’ve been using Carmex for years now and never had a problem. I guess, as with all beauty products, people will get on better with some than others.
Carmex hasn’t harmed my lips either. Do you have a link to some evidence of this, HM, or is it just your personal opinion?
I have searched London for the tinted vaseline and I cannot find it anywhere! This distresses me greatly as I covet it. On the upside, I too love high beam and carmex (though I like the cherry flavoured one best).
Other beauty essentials for me include St Ives Apricot face scrub and the Mac Zoom Mascara.
xx
A La Mode Mums- do you have a Savers near you? That’s where I picked mine up from.
Otherwise Tesco and other supermarkets sell it.
I haven’t, I’ll admit, seen it in a Boots or Superdrug yet. Despite it been released about 8 months ago!
Hope that helps!
While Carmex contains some drying-type ingredients that aren’t ideal, it’s no more harmful than any other stuff everyone’s throwing on their lips.

Snopes knows.
As an ex carmex lover, I have converted to Burt’s bees which I think is even better and definitely doesn’t dry your lips – no nasty petroleum based products. An aromatherapist friend told me these lip balms are drying and addictive too. Don’t know if it’s the case or not, but Burt’s Bees works just as well….and it’s natural.
Yes! Lostinfrance – lipbalms like vaseline are totally drying because they make your body think its moisturised so it doesn’t produce as much as it should be. Vicious circle. I use emu oil lipbalm from http://www.emu-oil-well.com. Where can I get the Burt’s bees stuff?
