Monthly Archives: April 2009Boots No. & Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum
OK, so there's just no way I can possibly be expected NOT to buy this, is there? In fact, just give me a second… SOLD. To the slightly sheepish looking Dollface, who just can't resist a new version of her favourite beauty serum. Here's the thing, though: the last version of Protect & Perfect works. It just does. And you don't have to take my word, because there have now been a couple of intensive surveys which have proved that it works. Even I, who normally fail to see any difference whatsoever from the use of so-called "miracle" products, notice a big difference when I use this – and a big difference when I stop using it. It's probably my Holy Grail of Skincare, to be honest. This new version, then, is said to be an improvement on that 'Holy Grail' product. It's the intense version. You can see now why I found it impossible to resist, can't you? This promises to improve deep lines and wrinkles by up to 50% and, with repeated use, they say it's the first product that will actually restore the skin's structure with prolonged use, so that other people will notice the difference. It was tested during a year-long clinical study, which found these claims to be pretty much on the money, and it goes on sale today. The last version of Protect & Perfect sold out instantly when it launched two years ago: Boots say they're better prepared this time, and have stockpiled this in preparation for the inevitable rush, but even so, I'm glad I've reserved mine already! My bottle should arrive next week, and, needless to say, I'll be letting you all know what I think of it. If you want to buy yours, you can get it here. Bobbi Brown Exclusive Shimmer Brick for Body & All Over Body Brush
I love my Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick, so when I discovered there was an over sized version designed to be used on the body, I just had to go and coo over it like it was a kitten or something. This is exactly what it sounds like: a version of the famous shimmer brick which you can basically use as a bronzing powder for your arms, legs, or anywhere else that might need it. It's not cheap at $75, and the All Over Body Brush is even more expensive at $85, but hey, don't they look pretty? You can buy them both exclusively at Neiman Marcus, or, if you prefer, you can just gaze at them, above. Up to you. Buy: Bobbi Brown Exclusive Shimmer Brick for Body & All Over Body Brush Essie ‘Neons’ Mini Nail Polish 4-Pack
Yup, that neon trend is still going strong. I don't think I'm ever going to be a neon lover, but if you are, this mini nail polish pack by Essie might be right up your street. It contains four polishes in this season's "must have " colours (I never thought I'd ever say that about neon), and even I have to admit, this is a much easier – and nicer – way to wear this trend than on your clothes! The pack is $17 from Nordstrom Sephora’s Color Play Palette – $120 of cosmetics for $22
I've said before that I have real problems with makeup palettes. As lovely and enticing as they always look, there are inevitably only a few colours that suit me (or that I would wear), and so the rest go unused forever, making what seemed like a good deal a bit of a waste of money. Add to that the fact that the really big ones don't fit inside my train case, so I tend to store them away somewhere and forget about them and… well, you can see why I don't really buy many palettes. That doesn't explain why, every time I see one, I can't help coveting it, though. And if I WAS in the market for a huge-ass makeup palette, this one from Sephora wold be my choice. They call it "The Ultimate Palette", and you can see why, can't you? It contains: - 36 eyeshadows And all of that equals £120 worth of makeup for $22. I think I may have to re-think my anti-palette position, folks… Get it at www.sephora.com

Jonathan Product Green Rootine Dry Shampoo Brush On Hair Powder
We're all familiar with the concept of dry shampoo, but while all of the ones I've tried in the past have come in a spray can , and been applied in much the same way as hairspray, this one by Jonathan Product is a powder, which you apply with the brush attached to the container. Like other dry shampoos, this isn't supposed to be a substitute for washing your hair the usual way, but will come in handy between washes, or for those times when your hair starts to look a little greasy and you don't have either the time or the inclination to wash it. It comes in two shades – one light, one dark – so it'll blend in with your hair, and to use it, you simply brush it on using the applicator provided. It's $18 from www.sephora.com

Hourglass Supernatural Waterproof Bronzer
Every year, I spend a couple of weeks in Florida. As anyone who's ever been to Florida will testify, it's not just hot, it's seriously humid. In the summer, stepping out of your front door some days can feel like stepping into a warm shower, and that, of course, is really bad news for your makeup. Then there are pool days. Beach days. Those afternoon thunderstorms. You get the picture. This is why I'm more than a little interested in Hourglasses 'Supernatural' Waterproof bronzer. Although a powder formula, it claims to be able to withstand " high humidity and extreme moisture". Which sounds pretty much ideal, no? It's also free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances and dyes, and it's $45 at www.sephora.com

The New Macleans Confidence Range – for white teeth and fresh breath
I know no one needs me to tell them that clean, white teeth are one of the biggest beauty boosts you can get, and if you already have that Hollywood smile, you're going to want to make sure you keep it. I'm a coffee addict, and I'm not adverse to the odd glass of red wine too, which means I have to work harder than most to make sure my pearly whites stay pearly and white. This week I've been using Macleans new 'Confidence' range, which includes an iso-active® toothpaste, an icy fresh mouthwash and an antibacterial fresh breath spray, which are designed to keep your teeth clean and white and your breath fresh. While the mouthwash and breath freshening spray are great products in their own rights, it's the whitening toothpaste that was of most interest to me. Macleans say:
I've only been using this for a week, which obviously hasn't been enough time to see any difference in the colour of my teeth, but it definitely leaves them feeling clean and polished, so I will continue using it and report back on its whitening properties soon! In the meantime, if you'd like to try it, or the other products in the line, out for yourself, you can buy them all in most chemists and supermarkets.

St Tropez Everyday Perfect Legs – a self tanner just for your legs
Here in the UK, the weather can change on an daily – and sometimes hourly – basis. Most of the time, of course, it's miserable, which makes all the faff of self-tanning seem like a wasted effort, most of the time. But then one morning you'll suddenly wake up to glorious sunshine, and curse the fact that you didn't make like the Boy Scouts on the preparation front, because that summery skirt or dress you now want to wear just doesn't look quite the same with your pale blue legs. With no time for a self-tan to develop, you could opt for a self-tan makeup, of course – or you could opt for St Tropez's Everyday Perfect Legs. This combines a gradual self-tanner with a hint of bronzer, so your legs will look instantly browner, but the colour won't wash off in the shower when you get home from work, because underneath that glow, the self-tanner will be getting to work. This also comes with St Tropez' Aromaguard fragrance technology which they say makes it 70% less smelly than regular fake tan. So you don't have to sit at your desk smelling like biscuits, basically. That can only be a good thing… BUY: St Tropez Everyday Perfect Legs, £35 Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream gets a 60s makeover
It's already dabbled with the retro look once, but now Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream is going back to the 60s, with a psychedelic glass jar. Groovy, no? I'm never without a tube of Eight Hour Cream, and love this new, limited edition packaging, which is just so much more interesting that the regular old white tube. I also can't wait to see the next in this series – just how will Elizabeth Arden decide to represent the 1970s? Buy: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream (Limited Edition), $25
