If, like me, you're still cursing the day Hair Scroos went out of production, I'm wondering of these ZannClips (also known as SpyralClips) could be the answer?
A kind of cross between a Hair Scroo and a Kirby grip, these will apparently hold your hair in place all day long, and are easy to use. Will they be as easy as my beloved Hair Scroos? Well, there's a video on the website, and they certainly look good, and relatively trouble-free, but I'll be interested to hear the experiences of anyone who's actually used them. Check them out here.

Hello, Amber
I looked at your post on Hair Scroos and started searching the internet – and here is! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-sets-4-Magic-Hair-Scroos-HOLD-UP-U-HAIR-INVISIBLE-NEW_W0QQitemZ370129088435QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item370129088435&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318
Might have to buy some now
All the best!
Hi Olaola,
I hate to be the voice of doom, but I also stunbled upon that seller a few months ago and tried to order the hair scroos, but had a really horrible experience with expo-USA. I did update the comments on that entry but for some reason they’re not showing up, so here’s what I said:
“Just a quick warning about eBay: I also ordered some hair scroos from eBay, from a US seller called expo_usa.
Weeks passed and no hair scroos arrived. My emails were ignored. Finally, the postal service forwarded me a fragment of an envelope containing a fragment of the “how to use hair scroos” leaflet that had been inside. This was all that remained of my package as it has been so badly damaged in transit that the contents had been lost.
And no wonder. I’d ordered two packs 4 “scroos”. They’d been sent overseas in the flimsiest envelope imaginable, with a 90 cent stamp on the front. I’d been charged $7 for this “postage and packing” which was clearly totally insufficient to protect the contents.
Again, the seller ignored all of my emails until finally I was forced to file a claim with Paypal to try and get my money back, at which point she told me I should have purchased postal insurance, at $30. Er,no, you should have used some of the $7 I paid for shipping to buy a proper envelope or box!
Anyway, this was just my experience and I really hope those of you who are also using this seller have a better one, but I really, really wouldn’t recommend using expo_USA if you’re just reading this and thinking of looking for these on eBay!”
Ah! I read this comment of yours and somehow missed the name of the seller now
My hopes were raised, I’m always on the lookout for good hair grips that don’t show. My hair is terribly sleek/slippery. Bah…
and, well.. those are not so much :/
That’s the problem with those ZannClips – they will be on display at all times, I prefer to hide the grips in my hair, unless they are terribly chic
I know what you mean, and the hair scroos are perfect for that because they really are pretty much invisible. Take heart, though, they do come up on eBay from time to time from other sellers – my husband managed to get me some, so they are still out there!
Ooh, that’s good news! Cheers Amber! Will keep an eye on eBay
Hi Amber and Olaola,
Amber I have sent you an email with the subject line “ZannClip”.
Olaola, I can’t find a way to contact you.
I am the owner of ZannClip and would like to send you both a clip. I too know about scroos and in a round about way they were part of the inspiration that led me to develop my product. My barrette is very different as it does not “screw” into the hair the way scroos do- and i don’t want to brag here but….- they are so superior in the way they hold. They don’t slip out! Also, I understand wanting clips to disappear and that’s why I now make the ZannClip in hair colors (black, brown, blonde and even grey) so they virtually disappear by blending in with your hair color. Please go to my website and check out the press page which will give you an idea what others are saying about how well it holds, how comfortable it is, etc.. I could go on here but just contact me through my website and I’ll get one in your hands so you can try it out yourself. My very best, Suzanne
Here’s an etsy shop where screws like the ones you posted are sold:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=20439862
The woman who owns it seems to make them herself, and the ones currently listed have flowers and such on them, but I bet if you asked she could make some plain ones for you. I’m always looking for interesting new accessories that are compatible with my long hair and lack of patience/technique, so I’m eager to try the screw-style pins and the ZannClips.
i bought mine from a uk ebayer about a year ago listed under hair screws.
i find them fantastic as i have to keep my long hair (it’s to my waist!!!) up during the day. They are excellent !
