Stila Blockbuster Set – 21 classic Stila products in one go

Stila blcokbuster set Stila Blockbuster Set 21 classic Stila products in one go

One week today I'll be in Sephora, folks! Well, actually, that's not true: one week today I'll be somewhere above the Atlantic, probably clinging onto my armrest for dear life and wondering if I'm going to die. But not too long after that, I'll be in Sephora. And clearly Sephora knows I'm coming, because why else would they produce something like this?

Yes, it's 21 classic Stila products, all in a little carry case. I'm telling myself it's a waste of money (Which it probably is) because the likelihood of me actually liking or using all of those products is probably pretty small, but even so, it's $400 worth of makeup for $150. Temptation, thy name is Sephora…

Debenhams spot beauty bag with front pocket

Beauty bag Debenhams spot beauty bag with front pocket

Amongst my many vices is a small but significant addiction to things with spots on them. Doesn't really matter what it is (Well, except faces, obviously: I can do without spots-on-faces, especially if the face in question belongs to me), if it has dots on it, I'll probably like it. No, I don't know why.

It will come as no surprise to you, then, to hear that I rather like Debenham's spot beauty bag, which is £15, and looks roomy enough to hold…well, OK, not ALL of my makeup, but at least some of it. A little bit. A fraction. Yes.

Dollface Reviews: MeMeMe Colourama Long Lasting Cream Eyeshadow

Mememe eye shadow Dollface Reviews: MeMeMe Colourama Long Lasting Cream Eyeshadow

I’ve actually had these MeMeMe eyeshadows for a couple of weeks now, but, true to form, my eyes decided to do their usual, “Oh, you’re going on holiday soon! Guess we’ll just break out in painful red  blotches and maybe swell up a bit, too!” thing. So, yeah, thanks for that, guys, love you too.

(Note: nothing to do with this, or any other, product, I hasten to add, just my bad luck.)

Anyway, I finally got around to trying them out this week, and you’ll find some pictures of what they look like on after the jump. These are metallic shades of silver and bronze, but they’re fairly dull metallics so there’s no glitter or anything like that – in fact, they’re subtle enough to wear during the day, I’d say.

When you open the cap, you find a sponge applicator attached to it: this is the only thing I wasn’t;t keen on, because I prefer a brush, and the sponge was a little bigger than I like, but it’s easy enough to use. The colour goes on smoothly and builds up easily if you want a deeper colour. It calls itself a “Long Lasting” eyeshadow, and I’d agree with that – I tried it without primer to test the claim fully, and it stayed on all day, no problem.

This is available from Superdrug, although you’ll have to look for it in-store only.

The Cool Fix – soothes your shaving rash

The cool fix The Cool Fix soothes your shaving rash

I’ve mentioned befomy hair removal the old-fashioned way: with a razor. This works pretty well for me, but of course, like most methods of hair removal, it’s not without its downside, including the odd shaving rash, and those attractive red “pimples” you sometimes get. Nice!

I know waxers can encounter similar issues, but luckily The Cool Fix is here to, er, fix them. As well as providing “clinical levels” (Oooh! Fancy!) of relief from irritated, post shave/wax skin, it also helps with ingrown hairs, gently releasing them from the skin and preventing them from recurring.

Needless to say, I also like the vaguely retro label on the bottle, too. It’s $25, and you can buy it at www.sephora.com The Cool Fix soothes your shaving rash

Dollface Reviews: Asda Essential Care Self Tan Lotion

Asda essential care Dollface Reviews: Asda Essential Care Self Tan Lotion

Remember last week, when I tried out Asda's gradual self-tan moisturiser, and wasn't really impressed with it?

You'd think I'd have learned an important lesson about budget tanning products from that, but obviously you would think wrong, because I NEVER learn, and so this week I went back and bought their Fake Tan Lotion.

And actually? I'm really glad I did, because as self-tanning products go, this is a good 'un. No, seriously.

Like the gradual tanner, this is only about £2.50 per bottle. Unlike the gradual tanner, it's a "proper" fake tan, that develops fully in just a few hours and then stays on for days. Also unlike the gradual tanner, it actually develops into a really nice colour: not too dark, but dark enough to create the illusion of a natural tan. Result!

Another thing I really liked about this was the fact that it dries quickly, so although they recommend wearing dark, loose clothing afterwards, you don't really need to worry about walking around naked, terrified to get fake tan on your clothes, towels etc. I didn't wear dark clothing afterwards (Because I am stupid. Always follow the instructions, kids!) but it didn't rub off on anything, and I didn't feel uncomfortable sticky either, which is something I absolutely HATE about the whole fake tanning process.

Oh, and it doesn't smell either, as confirmed by Mr Dollface.

Overall, then, a good result from Asda: and a product I will definitely buy again!

Dannii Minogue gets a new short haircut – what do you think?

FP 3129150 BARM X Factor Ju Dannii Minogue gets a new short haircut what do you think?

When Danni Minogue appeared as a judge on last year's X-Factor, she had long, flowing locks, but this year it's all change, and Dannii was spotted at the second round of auditions for the new series in Glasgow this week with a new, short crop.

I've always thought Danni Minogue has a beautiful face, but I'm not really loving this look on her – it looks a little bit 80s for my taste, but it could just be the way it's styled for this particular picture. What do you think of this new look?

L’ Oréal Paris Telescopic Explosion Mascara

loreal Paris Telescopic E L Oréal Paris Telescopic Explosion Mascara

Mascara fans will no doubt have instantly realised that the wand on L’ Oréal Paris’s Telescopic Explosion Mascara is similar, although not identical, to the one on Givenchy’s Phenomen’Eyes, which was released last year. I’ve read good things about the Givenchy product, although I haven’t used it myself, so I’m wondering if this is supposed to be a budget version of it.

It costs £6.50, and L’Oreal say of the wand:

“Small and spherical, the flexi-globe brush of L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Explosion Mascara makes it easy to capture and separate each and every lash right from the root, in the corners of your eyes and even the bottom lashes which can be hard to reach with a traditional mascara brush. Your lashes are fanned out, as though multiplied.”

Sounds good, but I generally tend to prefer my mascara wands long and skinny, so who knows how well I’d get on with this one. As it’s the second mascara I’ve seen recently that uses this style of small, round brash, however, I’m thinking I need to find out. Anyone tried it?

neuLash Eyelash Enhancing Serum

Nuelash eyelash enhancing s neuLash Eyelash Enhancing Serum

Why is it that products claiming to make your eyelashes grow longer are always so expensively priced? Is it because if such a thing actually worked, it would be worth its weight in gold to some beauty junkies, or is there some other reason for it?

I have no idea, and as this particular eyelash-enhancing serum costs $150, I'm unlikely to be finding out, either. It's called neuLash, and it promises to basically nourish your eyelashes, delivering proteins, vitamins, and other good stuff that will nourish and replenish them.

Results can apparently be seen in 30 days, so if you think it's worth the investment, you can buy it here.

Shu Uemura ‘Lucent Rainbow’ and ‘Mini Star Glitz’ False Eyelashes

Shu uemura false eyelashes Shu Uemura Lucent Rainbow and Mini Star Glitz False Eyelashes

I've been wracking my brains here, but I can't for the life of me think of a single occasion on which I'd have need of these false eyelashes from Shu Uemura (well, not unless a career change to "drag queen" is on the cards), so I turn the question over to you, readers: would you wear these? And if so, then where? And with what?

If you would, they're $22 and $27 respectively, and you can buy them at Nordstrom.

Seriously, though: WHEN?

Bobbi Brown Beach Shimering Body Oil

Beach shimmering body oil Bobbi Brown Beach Shimering Body Oil

Do you want your body to shimmer on the beach?

I'm not sure I do, to be completely honest. That's what Bobbi Brown's Shimmering Body Oil is designed for, though: this isn't a sunscreen, so although it will moisturise your skin, the main effect is to give your skin one of those "golden glows" beauty companies are always talking about, as you lie in the sun. For this reason, I'm assuming it's quick dry and non-sticky, otherwise I'd probably end up looking like a Sand Creature, with half of the beach stuck to my skin. Mind you, I generally look like a Sand Creature at the beach anyway, so I guess it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for me.

Although Neiman Marcus have added the word "beach" to the name of this, I think the moisturising properties mean it will probably come into its own as an after-sun, to sooth the skin and add a bit of shimmer for evening.

If you want to try it out and see for yourself, it's $34 from Neiman Marcus.
