I've written about Revlon's new ColorStay Ultimate Lipcolor before, and was impressed with how long it lasted, but my findings were unscientific to say the least, so this time I decided to repeat the experiment WITH PICTURES. Lucky, lucky readers!
As you'll probablyremember, Revlon claim that this lip-colour will last for "up to 12 hours" without having to be re-applied. Will it? Well, let's see…
For the purposes of this test, I choose ColorStay # 050 'Top Tomato' – not only because I have a bit of a "thing" about red lipstick at the moment, but because it was the brightest colour I could find, and so the best one to photograph throughout the day.
I applied the lipstick at about 1pm (I'm still really impressed with the application – it's very, very smooth and easy to use) and then went about my day as usual, eating and drinking as I normally would. I didn't re-apply the lipstick at any point, and I took photos at various points throughout the day to document the lipsticks process.
NOTE: I keep a 2 litre bottle of water on my desk and sip at it throughout the day, so as well as the many mugs of coffee documented here, I also drunk a lot of water. I don't ONLY drink coffee, you see. Just mostly coffee.
Here's the lipstick at the start of the experiment:

This shade is actually brighter and redder than it appears in the close-up photo, which for some reason looks a little bit washed out. Almost immediately after applying it, I had lunch:

The lipstick's been on for almost three hours now, and been subjected to food, coffee and water. As you can see, it's mostly still on, although it's starting to fade a little around the bottom of the mouth and in the centre of the lips. This was only really noticeable in extreme close-up, though: from a "normal" distance it still looked much as it did when I applied it.

By 4:45, after more coffee, and more water, the wearing-off on the inside of the mouth is becoming more apparent, although only when I pout. From a bit more of a distance, though, I still think it's holding up pretty well:

How will the lipstick cope with dinner, though?

Not so great, actually – but remember, it's been on for almost 7.5 hours at this point.
Time passes. I drink water and take blurry photographs of my own mouth. It's a typical Wednesday chez Dollface:

By 11:40pm, when I head off to the shower, it's clear that the lipstick has given up the ghost:

(This photo was the only one taken with the flash – it was too dark by then to take it any other way)
The colour is still bravely hanging on, though! It is but a shadow of its former self, but it will not surrender! Brave lipstick! Clever lipstick!
Conclusion: This didn't last the full 12 hours, obviously, but I still think it did a pretty good job. It's hard to capture the colour in photos, but it didn't change during the time I was wearing this, and up until about dinnertime, the fading was really only apparent when you look closely – and bear in mind that the brighter/darker the colour, the more obvious the fading. If I hadn't been doing this purely to test how long it would last, I would've topped it up after dinner, and I think it would've got me through the rest of the night.
Overall, then, not a 12-hours-without-touch-ups lipstick, but a pretty good one all the same.

I use this lipstick and I love it. But first I apply a lipliner as a base over the entire lip. It helps keep the color on longer, and makes the color less sheer. That will last me through a workday and usually a short trip to the pub after work, as well.
Yay, thanks for putting this on trial – I’ve seen it instore these days.
It looks quite comfortable on the lips too, and not chalky. (I’ve never got over a rival brand’s long-last lipstick with gloss balm combo, which made me look as though I’d coated my mouth with Dulux paint. Dreadful stuff!)
This could be good for workdays, as I usually apply lipstick before heading out to travel to work, and then as soon as I’m at my desk I’m eating a cereal bar, doing a hatchet job on the lipstick. It would be good if I could just apply & forget about it, without having to check if I’m left with a ring of colour on my mouth.
