Bikini Goddess 5 Day Challenge, Part 1 – Gillette Venus Embrace

venus embrace Bikini Goddess 5 Day Challenge, Part 1 Gillette Venus Embrace

Readers, let’s talk about bikini lines.

No, this isn’t part of a new passion for over-sharing, it’s just that last week Gillette asked me to take part in their 5 day Bikini Goddess Challenge, testing out the Venus Embrace and the Wilkinson Sword Quattro for Women Bikini and seeing how well they work on the ol’ bikini line.

Now, quick confession first: this wasn’t exactly a departure for me, because I tend to use a razor on my bikini line anyway. Regular professional waxing is too time-consuming and expensive for me (not to mention the fact that I have a super-low pain threshold), and I’m in the shower every day anyway, so shaving it is.

I’ve been using the Venus Embrace in conjunction with Gillette’s Satin Care Shave Gel in Avocado Mist. I’ve reviewed both of these before, and been impressed with them, and I’m happy to report that they work just as well on the bikini line as they do anywhere else on the body. Obviously the last thing you want is a shaving rash peeking out of your bikini bottoms – * shudder* – but these leave the skin smooth and soft: no stubble, no rash, no tell-tale ingrown hairs. Also, the Venus Embrace is such a gentle razor to use that it would be pretty hard to cut yourself with it either: I’ve been using this razor for a while now, and I haven’t cut myself yet, and if I can’t do it, I don’t expect you will, either.

So, a good result for Gillette! Next week I’ll be trying out the Wilkinson Sword Quattro for women, but in the meantime, tell me: how do you deal with your bikini line – shave? Wax? A depilatory cream? Or do you prefer the au natural look?

I’ll go first! I wax…even though I have a pretty low pain threshold it’s more convienient as you do it and then can go a few weeks without needing it done again.
I do shave my legs so I might have to give this Venus embrace a go. I already have a Venus razor but not the embrace.

  2. Adele says:

Au natural for the win! It saves time, nobody cares, and I don’t have to worry about rashes or ingrown hairs or pain. I do shave my arms, though, so I guess it evens itself out.

  3. Laura says:

I used to shave, but now I do the full out “Hollywood” wax. It is essentially a Brazilian wax but with no shame. Painful, and actually only good for about two weeks after. I’m rarely in a bikini so I get it done more for the relationship benefits. And I love the salon where I get it (if anyone is in Toronto, Canada, visit Ten Spot on Queen West!)

It is expensive at around $60 Canadian per visit (including tip). My legs and underarms get a shave daily, though, so I’ll make the move up the five blades, I think!
.-= Laura´s last blog ..Said: "What did you do to your hairs?" =-.

  4. Nicky says:

Shaving gets my vote. Not too fussed about the pain of waxing but what i HATE is the growing stage when you have to let the hairs get long enough to have the things ripped out again. I’ve tried to wait it out a couple of times, but when the little blighters are looking at you in the shower and the razor is just within reach – i just can’t let them be!!! The Embrace razor is the best I’ve found BTW. have been using it since it came out a few months ago.

    • Dollface says:

Ah yes, this is actually the number one thing that puts me off waxing any part of my body – the thought of having to let the hair grow long enough to be able to have it waxed off. It would drive me absolutely insane!

  5. Lori says:

The only time I ever got a bikini wax (from someone who had done a great job waxing my legs in the past), I had pinprick bleeding where the hairs were ripped out, which apparently is something that can happen, and not considered a big deal. Aiiiieee, DO NOT WANT… never doing that again.

Lately it’s been the au naturel, because my skin is so sensitive that I always seem to have bumps or some other problem no matter what method I use.

Don’t got swimming much anyway, and my boyfriend is used to me. ^^

  6. Araceli says:

I try the bikini wax once with the same results as Lori. Now I just go to the laser (full legs, belly button line, bikini line, armpits, upper lip). Yes it´s expensive, and no matter what they say it hurts like hell the first 4 or 5 times, BUT everythime you see less and less hair (I haven´t finished yet) so it´s totally worth it. I also have very sensitive skin and everything irritated it (even shaving) and now with the laser I´ll get irritation for a couple of hours and that´s it s that is a plus.

    • Dollface says:

I would really like to have this done, if I had the time/money. Although I’m guessing the money I’d SAVE on not having to buy shaving products would probably make it worth it in the long run!

  7. Nikki G says:

Shaving is the way to go for me. I know it’s silly but I’m way too modest to let anyone go to that region just for cosmetic purposes.

  8. Steph says:

Au natural but that’s largely because I just can’t be bothered. I intend to start shaving soon, though. I could never ever wax – I can’t even pluck my eyebrows because I find it so horrendously painful, so heaven forfend I should let someone rip the hair out of my nether regions *winces*

  9. Rebecca says:

I used to shave, but it was a disaster. I would cut myself a little almost every time, I missed bits- I’m not the most skilled hair removalist, I admit.

    Natural for me!

  10. mbbored says:

I’ve done waxing before, but only when I’m in a relationship or before a big beach vacation. Otherwise, I just shave whenever I shave my legs. I do get a few bumps this way, but not enough to want to pay for or deal with the pain of waxing on a regular basis.
