Monthly Archives: August 2009Illamasqua Sirens gift set
This contains five products: The Liquid Metal cream looks luscious - look at that golden glow! – but I think the false eyelashes look even better:
Isn’t that a fabulous shape? All of the products are available to buy sepparately, of course, but if you want to sample them all together, the Sirens set is £59 at Debenhams. Tweezerman Mini Tweeze Set Brow Duo 2 Go
I’ve said before that I’m a fan of Tweezerman, and particularly of their point tweezers, which are just the best things ever for getting at those little, hard to tweeze hairs. Sometimes, though, a slant tweezer is the best tool for the job, which is why this little kit will come in handy. As well as being min-sized, and therefore handy for travel (although trust me, there’s no way you’re getting these bad boys into the cabin of an aircraft with you – I bet the point tweezers could do some serious damage if you wanted them to!), they also come with a mirror and little sparkly pouch. If I didn’t already own eleventy-one sets of tweezers, some of which I’ve forgotten I even have, I’d be seriously tempted.

NARS new Larger Than Life lengthening and volumising mascaras
Some mascaras try to be all things to all people, claiming to provide length, volume, curl and the secret or eternal youth, all in one small tube. Well, OK, maybe not that last one, but you get the picture. As I know only too well, though, most of the time these multi-taskers just don’t work, so it’s actually quite refreshing to see NARS decide to concentrate on one of thing at a time, releasing two new mascaras at the same time, one lengthening, one volumising. (I guess they could just be hoping we’ll buy both, though. Wow, it’s almost like they KNOW me!) As you can see from the image, the lengthening mascara has a long, pointy wand and the volumising one has a shorter, fatter one. They’re both called Larger Than Life, and the Lengthening version contains tiny fibres which cling to your lashes, helping them look longer, while the Volumising formula relies on the “honeycomb” brush to make sure each lash is coated. They’re £25 each from www.sephora.com DuWop Lipmousse – not quite a lipstick, not quite a gloss
I really shouldn’t blog when I’m hungry. Words like “mousse”, “light and fluffy” and “whipped”: they make me think of dessert, not makeup. All of those words have been applied to DuWop’s new Lipmousse, though, and it is decidedly not something you can eat, although you CAN put it on your lips. Other than the foodie descriptive words, though, DuWop haven’t quite made up their minds exactly what they’re selling here: they say it’s not a lipstick, but not quite a gloss (Oh God, does anyone else now have Britney Spear’s ‘Not a Girl, But Not Yet a Woman’ running through their heads? You’re welcome!) – instead, it’s a kind of hybrid of the two, with a “showerhead” style applicator which they say will help to create a “blurring effect” which disguises any lines or imperfections in the lips. A bit like a Monet painting I guess. (Tai: Do you think she’s pretty? Cher: No, she’s a full-on Monet…) DuWop Lipmousse is available in six different colours, and is $22 at www.sephora.com Chanel Fleurs Celestes de Chanel Highlighter for Face and Decollete
Some beauty products are almost too pretty for their own good. I mean, take this Chanel compact, for instance. The perfectionist in me says it would be a shame to mess that up by, you know, actually using it. But then the beauty junkie in me says, “the hell with that, it’s a product, it’s fair game.” And of course, the beauty junkie wins. Every time. This is a highlighting powder for the face and decollette (“No!” I hear you gasp.) and if you look closely you’ll see that there are actually three different shades in there, which will allow you to get varying degrees of colour where you need it. A good idea, given that our faces and our decolletes aren’t always the exact same colour. This product promises to give you… actually, can you guess? Yes! It’s RADIANCE! Is there a product around at the moment that DOESN’T claim to create “radiance”? If there is, I’d like to see it. Actually, scratch that, no I wouldn’t: I’m all about the radiance, me. If you’re all about the radiance too, this is available from Neiman Marcus, where it’s $65. Chanel Fleurs Celestes de Chanel Highlighter for Face and Decollete LaLicious donate 15% from every purchase of Sugar Kiss Soufflé Scrub to Breast Cancer Research Fund during October
I’ll do my best to continue to bring you products to drool over, but if I do disappear, I leave you with the news that the wonderfully-named LaLicious are donating 15% from every sale of their Sugar Kiss Souffle Scrub to the Breast Cancer Research Fund during the month of October, which is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s an excellent cause, and although I haven’t tried the body scrub, it sounds like an excellent product too, with a sweet scent and a moisturising formula. It costs $34 and you can buy it here. Borghese Nail Care Finale Fast Set Nail Spray
With so many nail polishes these days having – or at least claiming to have – fast-drying formulas, I’m not sure how much use this product would get Chez Dollface, but it certainly sounds like it could come in handy if you don’t have a lot of time on your hands. (No pun intended.) It’s Borghese Nail Care’s ‘Finale’ nail spray, and as well as surface drying your polish in just a few seconds, it also claims to freshen it up and revive shine during applications. It’s $15, and also contains vitamin E and grape seed extracts, so if you use it on unpolished nails, it’ll help condition them a little, too. Michael Kors Very Hollywood Eau de Parfum Ring
Solid perfume. We saw a whole lot of versions of it stuck inside pendants and other necklaces last year, but now Michael Kors has gone and made one into a ring. What WILL those crazy kids think of next? I jest, of course: I’m pretty sure solid fragrance rings have been around since long before Michael Kors ‘Very Hollywood’ came along, but here it is, anyway. Neiman Marcus describes this as “discreet”, which is kinda funny given that it’s a whopping great ring, but hey. (I wonder what you do if the ring doesn’t fit? I have tiny little fingers, you see: not much DOES fit.) The fragrance itself features mandarin, iced bergamot, wet jasmine, ylang-ylang, raspberry, gardenia, orris, creamy amber, soft white moss and vetiver, which sounds lovely. It is, of course, available in various different formats, but this one costs $40 and is available at Neiman Marcus and other outlets. Anastasia Brow Definer – gel and pencil in one product
This product is one of those things that doesn’t offer anything truly revolutionary, but which is still handy to have. On one end there’s a brow pencil and on the other a clear brow gel, so you can fill them in and hold them in place without having to rummage around for two separate products. Simple, but hey, I’d buy it. I love brow products. Anastasia Brow Definer, $22 at Nordstrom Boots No. 7 Wild Volume Lipstick – for fuller, smoother lips
Boots No.7′s new Wild Volume lipstick promises to make your lips look fuller and smoother, but this is NOT a lip plumper, so those of you who’re tired of shelling out for products that sting a whole lot but don’t make much of a difference to the appearance of your lips can relax. Instead of irritating the lips in a bid to plump them up, this simply uses a creamy formula to fill in lines and creases, and make your lips look full and smooth. Simple, but (hopefully) effective. It costs £9.50 and comes in six different colours. Get it at Boots. | |||||||||||
