Monthly Archives: September 2009Collection 2000 Glam Glitter Loose Glitter Wands
If it is, these loose glitter wands from Collection 2000 could be of interest to you. They have a gel adhesive on one end and a pot of loose glitter on the other, so you can basically do whatever you want with them, from lining your eyes to drawing patterns. There’s a nice mix of brights and neutrals here (I actually think the black and silver versions could be a nice addition to your party makeup routine, adding a little bit of sparkle without looking too over the top), and they only cost £2.93, which is a good price for something you’re probably not going to use every day. By Collection 2000, you can pick these up everywhere from supermarkets to chemists. Benefit One Hot Minute sexy in seconds face powder
Ah, I love a new Benefit release, especially one designed to give me a “gaze at me glow” – that’s their words, not mine, as if you couldn’t guess. This is One Hot Minute, and it’s essentially a face powder, but as it’s designed to provide that oft talked about “radiance” that’s so important to the beauty world at the moment, you can really use it anywhere you need to feel more radiant. It should be the last step of your makeup application, going on over everything else, and making you glow. Theoretically, it should work for all skin tones, but looking at the product shot, I’m a little doubtful about that, as it looks pretty dark to me. That said, it claims to produce a “rose golden” complexion, so I’m sure I’ll find it in me to give it a bit of a test run next time I’m near a Benefit counter (and when it arrives in the UK)! Dollface Reviews: Villainess bath & body products
Meet my new favourite indulgences…. Villainess is a US brand of bath and body products, and they’ve basically manged to combine everything I like in this kind of thing: quirky packaging and branding, great scents, products that remind me of food: you get the picture. As an example of that quirky branding, here’s the product description for the ‘Bathory’ soap I’ve been using this week: “The cloying sweetness of a covetous lust for misspent youth, offset by a geriatric touch of rose and carnation, and underscored by a malevolent insinuation of sandalwood.” ‘Bathory’ is as great smelling as it sounds, but I was most impressed with the Smooch Scrub - a sugary scrub that turns into a creamy lotion on damp skin – and the Whipped! body creme, which is quite possibly the creamiest, butteriest body cream I’ve ever tried. I have the ‘Decadence’ scent, which uses lots of vanilla, and smells good enough to eat. Both the scrub and the body cream totally live up to the idea of indulgence: the Whipped! body cream in particular is a real treat to use, and although the product feels rich and buttery, it soaks into the skin quickly, leaving it feeling soft and smelling… well, a bit like cake mixture, actually. The Villainess line is stocked exclusively by Posh Brats in the UK, and prices range from £5 – £15. Check out the line here.

Clinique BCA Great Lips, Great Cause
If you’re a lipgloss lover – or know one – this little set from Clinique is very cute, and has also been created for a good cause, with a percentage of proceeds going to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation during October. It’s a keychain with two charms and three lipglosses in easy-to-wear shades of pink. The colours are Air Kiss, Kissyfit, and Whisper, and it costs $19 from www.sephora.com Avon 3-in-one sharpner for eyeliner and lip pencils
Needless to say, then, my makeup box is full of sharpeners for all these pencils. And you know what? I NEVER seem to have one that’s the right size. My pencils vary in size from slim to huge, and I seem to have acquired a small selection that don’t fit ANY of the sharpeners I own, which is why I’m thinking of ordering this 3-in-one sharpener from Avon. As you can tell from the name, this gives you three different sizes: yes, I know it looks like there’s only two holes in it, but the larger one contains a removable insert that you can pull out to make it bigger. Sounds like a good idea, especially when it only costs $2.99. Now to see if it’s available on the UK website… A new Sephora Lash Stash: 10 mini mascaras in one box!
Even although only one of the mascaras in my Sephora Lash Stash has met my (admittedly very picky) requirements so far, I still think it’s a great buy, especially for mascara addicts like myself, because it gives you an opportunity to try out of all these different products for only a fraction of the price the full-sized versions would cost. Just when I thought it was safe to go back into Sephora, though, they go and bring out a new Lash Stash, containing ten DIFFERENT mascaras. Sigh. Looks like I already have something on my Wish List for my next trip to the States, then. This time round you get : - 0.16 oz Hourglass Superficial Lash All of these cost just $39: a bargain. And lots of fun, too. Get it at www.sephora.com Friday Face: What makeup are you wearing today?Because I’m nosey and like to know what everyone’s wearing, I thought I’d start a little Friday feature where we can all talk about our faces of the day, or, in my case, my face of yesterday, because I still haven’t got round to putting my makeup on yet. Whoops. Don’t worry, though, yesterday’s look was pretty much my default makeup “face”, so it’s likely to be exactly the same today. (Oh, and you’ll have to excuse the stupid pose: my hair was a greasy mess, pulled back into a scraggy bun, and I was too embarrassed to show you it!) So, today yesterday I am was wearing: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, YSL Perfect Touch Radiant Brush Foundation, Benefit Erase Paste, Anastasia Brow Gel in brown, Urban Decay Glide On Eye Pencil in Nero on top of the lid and Yeyo in the corner of the eye, Lancome L’Extreme Waterproof mascara in black, NARS Orgasm blush, Benefit High Beam, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil in Wicked and Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Lipcolor in Premium Pink. What are you wearing?Dollface Reviews: Scholl Crackling Ice Foot Spray
Help was at hand foot, however, because the lovely people at Scholl had sent me a bottle of their Crackling Ice Foot Spray just a couple of days earlier, and let me tell you, it couldn’t have come at a better time. What it says on the tin:
It was the “crackling mousse” bit that intrigued me most about this. “I bet it won’t ACTUALLY crackle” said the cynic in me, but that cynic was silenced as soon as I sprayed this on, because yes, folks, it crackles. And how. As soon as it comes into contact with your skin it kinda froths up, and starts fizzing. It’s a strange, but actually really pleasant, sensation, and I’m not embarrassed to admit that I sprayed on a little more of it than I probably should have, I was enjoying it THAT MUCH. Once the crackling had died down, my feet were left feeling cool and soothed. This was a blessed relief after my run, but it would also come in handy for feet that’ve been stuffed into stilettos or strappy sandals for hours, and are now feeling the effects. It costs just £4.88, and is available direct from Scholl. Moxie – the prettiest tampons around
OK, so this isn’t strictly speaking a beauty product: well, not at all, really. But these Moxie tampons were too pretty not to show you, and I don’t think I’ve ever used the words “pretty” and “tampons” in the same sentence before, so that’s something of a first. The tampons themselves come individually wrapped, and have a Silken Glaze smooth coating inside a pearl finish applicator. The packaging, meanwhile, is the kind of thing you wouldn’t be embarrassed to leave lying around, and the little tins make great storage for makeup brushes and other bits and pieces. Available in regular and super, these will be available soon from Superdrug, and you can find out more at the Moxie website. | |||||||||||
