Monthly Archives: January 2010Friday Face: Lather, rinse and repeat…I’ve been rushing around all day today, so this week’s Friday Face isn’t just on the late side, it’s also more or less a repeat of previous faces. (“Hi, Im Troy McLure! You may remember these products from such Friday Faces as ”January 8th, 2010′ and ‘The one with the hat’“) This is what laziness does for you, kids. Anyway, as well as the usual Maybelline/Lancome/Diorshow/NARS mix, I think the only real difference here is the exchange of YSL’s Touche Eclat for Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer and Corrector. I’ll have a review of both of those up on Monday as they’re new additions to the Dollface arsenal. In the meantime, I hope everyone has a great weekend: but before you do, remember to tell me what’s on your Friday Face! Too Faced Lip Injection TechnocolorI didn’t get on with Too Faced’s Lip Injection when I tried it back in 2007, but that doesn’t mean you won’t: one thing I’ve learned about lip plumpers is that what irritates the lips (and hence makes them swell) can vary enormously from person to person, and while this didn’t work for me, I do know people who absolutely swear by it. If you fall into that category, you may be pleased to know that the famous gloss is also available in a range of colours, too, so you can add colour as well as shine and plumpness! These glosses cost £12 each, and you can buy them at HQ Hair, amongst other places. Paloma Faith’s makeup at the Cervical Cancer Charity ConcertAhem! Looks like I have some competition in the “Dollface” stakes, in the shape of UK singer Paloma Faith, who seems to have taken the word “dollface” literally for her appearance at the Cervical Cancer Charity in London last night. Paloma isn’t really one to play it safe, either with what she wears, or with what she chooses to put on her face as this look proves: she’s gone for a “tear” effect on the eyes, and what I think of as “Aunt Sally blusher”, worn with false eyelashes, red lipsticks and heavy brows. She’s as pretty as always, but what do you think of this look? Delightfully different or just a little bit too much? Body Shop Lip Scuff – for dry, chapped lipsMy lips have a tendency towards dryness even at the very best of times. Winter, of course, is far from the best of times, and sore, chapped lips can become the norm if I’m not careful. The Body Shop’s ‘Lip Scuff’ contains fig stone granules to exfoliate the lips and get rid of dry skin, with Macadamia nut oil to moisturise them, and even a touch of peppermint oil to keep your breath smelling minty fresh. Sound good? It’s $12 from The Body Shop. Tweezerman After Tweeze Soothing Cream
As fellow mono-brow owners will probably testify, keeping the brow at bay can involve a lot of tweezing. If I left it alone for even a day or two, I’d start looking like Liam Gallagher, and this is why my desert island beauty item would always be a set of tweezers. Always. Tweezing may keep me looking more human than ape, but it can also leave me with a large red patch between the eyes. Not so hot. This product, however, is designed specifically o soothe the brow area after tweezing: it contains ingredients including honey to soothe and moisturize the area, and it’s good for both tweezers and waxers. Get it at ASOS, where it costs £7. Bourjois Rouge High-Tech LiptintAs someone with naturally pale lips, lip tints always appeal to me: they can look and feel more natural than lipstick or gloss, and if you’re lucky enough to find one that’s long-lasting, they can stay put for much longer, too. It’s finding that perfect tint that’s the problem, obviously, but I’ve been reading some very good things about Bourjois Rouge High-Tech Liptint, and think it could be worth trying out. This is water-based, and is designed to feel just like bare lips: in other words, you shouldn’t even know you’re wearing it. It should give you a natural-looking “bitten lips” look, and if the reviews I’ve read are to be believed, it should last for several hours at a time, too. I’ll need to see this in person to decide which colour to go for, but if you want to buy online, it’s available at ASOS.com. where it’s £7.10. Laura Geller Sparkle Lash Varnish & Comb
This is by Laura Gellar, and costs $20, which seems quite expensive to me, but if you want to try it, it’s available over at QVC. Soap & Glory retro cosmetic brush case
Dollface Reviews: E.L.F french manicure set
I haven’t taken a photo of this on, because it’s much too subtle to actually show up. This is exactly why I like it, though: it’s a very natural pale pink colour with just a hint of shimmer: it basically makes my nails look glossy and healthy, and with just a hint of rosy colour, which is perfect for anyone who wants their nails to look polished, without actually looking like you’re wearing a lot of, er, polish, if that makes sense. Both this and the clear polish are easy to apply: they go one smoothly, with no streaking, and they dry quickly and evenly, so they’re easy to use if you’re in a hurry. It also lasts for days without chipping, which is good for lazy people like me. No, it’s not the most exciting polish around, but it’s still a pretty good deal, especially given that you’re getting all three for just £4. This kit is available from the E.L.F website, which you’ll find here. | |||||||||||
