Monthly Archives: February 2010Kiss Me Tonight Intense Lip Therapy TreatmentFor those with a hot Valentine’s date this weekend – or for those who don’t, but want lovely soft lips anyway – Philosophy’s Kiss Me Tonight costs $20, but promises to give you rosy, smooth, kissable lips, plumping out fine lines and getting rid of any nasty, rough bits. Sound good? Get it here: and have a great weekend! Fizzy Baker Cupcake Trio Bath Bomb Gift Box
I do, however, like cupcakes. A lot. In fact, I’m really glad I don’t have any in the house right now, because the very sight of the ones above makes me crave sugar – which is silly, really, because these ones are made of soap, not sugar. Which could be nasty, especially given that they even SMELL like cupcakes, apparently. Anyway, edible or not, I think they make a sweet (yes, I went there) little gift. They cost $16.50 for three, and you can buy them here. Kate Spade ‘Patchin Place makeup bagAt $50, this Kate Spade makeup bag is about $30 more than I’d normally spend on something I’m just going to mess up with spilt cosmetic, but what can I say: I have a bit of a weakness for airmail-themed products. (No, really…) It’s certainly very cute, but I think I’d like it better if it was matt white, rather than clear: I have a feeling that the jumble of makeup inside would spoil the effect just a little bit, here. Whew, $50 saved!

Dollface Reviews: Liz Earle Botanical Essence Eau De Parfum No.1The people at Liz Earle were kind enough to send me some products to try out a couple of weeks ago (a Dollface care package, if you will), and I’ve been working my way through them ever since: it’s a hard life, but, you know, someone has to do it… One product I can give you an opinion on right away, however, is the Botanical Essence Eau De Parfum. This was released last year, and although it’s Liz Earle’s first foray into the world of fragrance, it’s already won an award, from a Grazia Magazine. The fragrance is over 98% derived from natural ingredients, and contains top notes of bergamot, mandarin, orange, bigarade, lemon and cardamom, mid notes of floral rose absolute, lavender, geranium, coriander and nutmeg and base notes of naturally woody cedar wood, vetiver, tonka bean absolute and patchouli. Of course, if you’re anything like me, all of that probably means absolutely nothing to you at all, and you’re just thinking, “OK, but how’s the SMELL?” Quick answer: it’s gorgeous. Slightly longer answer: when I first applied it, the scent was very fresh, and very citrusy. Now, citrus scents aren’t my favourite, but this very quickly tones down and starts to smell warmer and more floral, which I really like. There’s still something very “natural” about it, though, if that makes sense, and it’s not too heavy, making it a nice everyday kind of fragrance. This costs £39.50 for 50ml, and is available from Liz Earle direct. Anyone tried it? Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Collector SetWow. That’s $425 of eyeliner, right there. And OK, they’re not actually charging $425: this is currently available at Sephora for $249, but that’s still a helluva lot more than I can imagine ever spending on eyeliner! Still, no one could say you’re not getting a whole lot of eyeliner for that: there are 25 pencils in this kit, and I don’t expect you’d ever find yourself stuck for a particular colour if you were the proud owner of this set. Would you want to be, though? If you would, get it here. Tarte MultiplEYE Lash EnhancerThere are so many products on the market at the moment that promise to give you naturally long, luscious lashes, and as tempting as that thought is, the one thing they all seem to have in common is the fact that they’re all really expensive, which makes me reluctant to splash out on them in case they don’t actually work. Tarte, however, is a brand I’ve been impressed with in the past, so I’m a little more likely to hand over my hard-earned cash to them, than to than a brand I’ve never heard of. Their MultiplEYE Lash Enhancer is $65, but they DO make the claim that 100% of test subjects reported an increase in softness and length on their lashes, with 90% reporting an increase in thickness. These results are achieved using ingredients like soy, cellulose and vitamin C. This makes me wonder again why, exactly, it needs to be so expensive, but if the results are as good as the brand suggests, I guess that’s my answer! If you’d like to try it out for yourself, you can buy it at Sephora. Boots No. 7 new Lift & Luminate skincare collectionFor my money, Boots’ No. 7 skin creams are right up there beside some of the high-end brands in terms of quality. Of course, they’re not cheap: in fact, they fall into a price bracket that’s not too far off that of some of the aforementioned high-end brands, but having been pretty much raised on No. 7 (my mum has been a fan for as long as I can remember and I swear by their Protect & Perfect range), I’m always interested in a new release in the skincrae line. This one is called “Lift and Luminate”. I bet you can’t guess what it does, can you? Yes! It lifts and… luminates the skin! Aimed at the “more mature woman”, here’s what Boots have to say about the line:
So far, so like Protect & Perfect, then, but as this is aimed at a slightly older demographic, Boots say it will also make the skin feel firmer, rather than “just” reducing the appearance of wrinkles. As you’ll have noticed from the blurb above, they also say this will happen in just four weeks, which makes me wonder if it’ll sell out as quickly as P&P did when it was originally launched, too. There’s a day cream (£19.50) , a night cream (£20.50 each) and an eye cream (£19.50) and these are available now from Boots. Clinique Instant Lift for Brows
It’s Clinique’s Instant Lift for Brows, it costs $15, and has a brown pencil on one side and a highlighter on the other. My only quibble with this is that there are only three colour combinations available, which makes me wonder if there’ll be one that will work with my hard-to-match colouring. Only one way to find out, I guess! Bobbi Brown’s new Makeup Facelift collectionMakeup that makes you look like you’ve had a facelift? Sold, to the Dollface whose birthday is coming up quicker than she’d like, and whose can’t afford Botox… Bobbi Brown’s latest collection contains everything you need to make you look like you just had a solid 12-hours worth of sleep, aparently. OK, so that’s not quite the same thing as a “facelift”, but it sounds pretty darn good to me anyway, and as well as the cosmetics shown above, there’s also a new eye cream Extra Eye Repair Cream – £35 Tinted Eye Brightener – £22 New Brow Pencils – £13.50 Brightening Lip Gloss – £14 These are all available now from Bobbi Brown. DuWop Foundation of Youth lightweight anti-ageing foundation
The product itself sounds pretty good too, it has to be said. As the name suggests, this aims to disguise some of the signs of ageing, mostly by using anti-oxidants to plump out fine lines. You’ll also notice that the tube comes with its own brush applicator, just like Yves Saint Laurent’s Radiant Touch. I loved the brush applicator on the YSL foundation at first, but after a couple of weeks of use, found myself going back to applying it with my fingers: it was just too tricky to get the right amount of product onto the brush, and I’d always end up with too much or too little, which makes me suspect a regular foundation brush is probably better for me than one that’s attached to the bottle. (Easier to clean, too.) If you want to find out for yourself, though, this is $38 direct from DuWop. | |||||||||||
