Dollface Reviews: Babyliss Pro 30 Piece Ceramic Roller Set

babyliss pro ceramic roller review Dollface Reviews: Babyliss Pro 30 Piece Ceramic Roller Set

Before I start this review, I have to explain a couple of things about my hair. You see, my hair is fine. Super-fine, in fact. It’s poker straight.  It’s long. It does not hold a curl AT ALL. Ever. The length and weight of my hair will drag out any curl within a few minutes of its creation, which means that my dreams of having a head of Carrie-Bradshaw style tousled curls are doomed to remain just a dream, and the most I can realistically expect from any kind of curling product is that it will give me some big, loose waves, and add a bit of body to my normally flat-as-a-pancake hair.

It was with this in mind that, after weeks of indecision, I finally succumbed to the lure of the Babyliss Pro Ceramic Roller Set I wrote about back in January, although, because I have rather a lot of hair, I decided to go for the 30 piece set rather than the 20 piece set I’d originally looked at. I bought my set from Cool Blades, which was the cheapest place I could find these online, and who I can’t recommend highly enough. As well as charging just £31.45 compared to the £40 – £45 I’d seen these for elsewhere, they also arrived the day after I placed my order, which was a pleasant surprise, as I hadn’t expected (or paid for!) next day delivery.

Lush ‘Stepping Stone’ foot scrub

Stepping Stone 4bc89d9a73b44 Lush Stepping Stone foot scrub

At about this time of year, I start thinking about my feet a lot. Wait: that sounded a bit creepy, didn’t it? I don’t mean it in a foot-fetish kind of way, I just mean that as the feet in question are starting to break free of their winter footwear, and expose themselves in peep toes, sandals and flip flops, I’m obviously going to want them to be looking their best, and that’s not something that’s going to happen without a bit of help. Or a miracle.

Lush’s ‘Stepping Stone’ pumice doesn’t promise miracles (Well, it’s only £2.75, what do you expect?). It does, however, promise to scrub and moisturise your soles, and leave them looking sandal-ready in time for summer. It also smells like mango. Get it here.

Philosophy ‘The Big Skinny’ self-tanning firming cream

philosophy big skinny Philosophy The Big Skinny self tanning firming cream

If you’re anything like as pale as me, and therefore prone to using the odd bit of fake tan in order to avoid frightening small children, you’re probably well aware that the condition of the skin you slap the product onto has a huge effect on the outcome of your self-tanning adventures.  Put simply, if you want to achieve a smooth, even tan, you’re going to want to first of all make sure you have smooth, even skin. Firm. Supple. You know the drill.

If you’re anything like as LAZY as me, however, you’ll ALSO know that the thought of using an exfoliator AND a body lotion AND a fake tan… meh. Who has time for all of that? Not me, which is why I find myself looking patchy a lot of the time looking with interest at Philosophy’s ‘The Big Skinny’. Rather than being a self-tanner with moisturiser in it, this is a moisturiser with self-tanner in it (yes, there is a difference) and its aim is to make your skin feel firmer and smoother, as well and giving it that sunkissed glow. It’s a hard-worker, this one.

The self-tanner is of the gradual kind, so you won’t wake up looking like you fell asleep on the beach, and if you DO have time for all those extra steps, there’s also an exfoliator which you can use first. Well, YOU can. I probably won’t bother, because I’m stupid like that.

This is $28 and you can grab it at Nordstrom.

Boots No. 7 Decades Collection launches today

Capture Boots No. 7 Decades Collection launches today

One of my favourite brands, Boot’ No. 7, is 75 years old this year, and to celebrate, they’ve just launched their Decades Collection, which allows you to recreate some of the most iconic looks from the past seven decades.

Using the most popular colours from each decade, the collection comprises eye, lip and nail colours, and there’s also a £14 ‘Hero’ compact which sums up the No. 7 look.

My favourite of the looks created by No7 creative director and make-up artist, Lisa Eldridge, would have to be the 1960s face (above), which uses the products pictured below, although I’m also loving the red lips and nails of the 1940s look, too. Take a look under the jump to see some more, and click here to browse the products at the Boots website!

Barry M Lip Lacquer Crayons

barry m lip crayons Barry M Lip Lacquer Crayons

Crayons… that are also lip colours. That really appeals to the part of me that’s secretly only seven years old, and as that’s quite a large part of me, I’ve spent quite a bit of time this afternoon looking at Barry M’s new Lip Lacquer Crayons, and wondering which one I’d buy (Cherry Red, just in case you’re wondering).

These promise to create a high-shine, ultra glossy finish, which isn’t quite the style I usually go for (I’m more of a matt lip kinda girl), but there’s a first time for everything, especially when the price is only £4.95.

Available in five different colours, you can order yours here.

Rimmel London 1-2-3 Looks Mascara: three looks in one

Rimmel 1 2 3 Looks Mascara Rimmel London 1 2 3 Looks Mascara: three looks in oneRimmel’s new 1-2-3 Looks Mascara markets itself as “the first customizable mascara”, and if you’re wondering just what that means, well, the clue is in the name! This is designed to allow to create three different looks, depending on your mood and the occasion, and it comes with a “dial” top wand, which you simply twist until you reach the option you’re looking  for, with each one giving you a little more volume than the last.

Option 1 provides 3x the volume of your natural lashes, for a “daytime” look.

Option 2 volumises the lashes by 5x, for a more dramatic look.

Option 3, meanwhile, gives you 10x the volume, for what Rimmel describes as “show stopping volume”.

Personally, I’m not sure I’d ever use the first two options here. My philosophy with mascara, you see, has always been “the bigger, the better” and I just can’t see why you’d want 3x the volume when you COULD have 10x the volume. I am a mascara obsessive, however, and I tend to think that every time is the right time for show-stopping volume. “Daytime look”? Pshaw! Give me the gigantic lashes and give me them NOW!

If, however, you like to change your lash look according to the time of day or type of occasion, this could be worth checking out, and at just £8, at least it’s not going to cost too much to investigate.

Anyone tried it yet? What did you think, if so?
