Monthly Archives: June 2010Cargo Cheek Activator: instantly smoother, plumper cheeks!I’m sure most of you have probably heard of Cargo’s best-selling Lash Activator - well, now here’s the version for your cheeks! Now, if the idea of “activating” your cheeks seems a bit unusual to you, hear me out: as well as giving you a healthy, natural looking flush, this also promises to tighten the skin instantly, smooth out wrinkles and basically lift and sculpt the cheeks to give you a more youthful look. If it actually DOES all of that, you can colour me amazed, and you can also sign me up for at least a few tubes of the stuff. Cheek-sculpting aside, this is also essentially a cream blusher that you can customise by rubbing – the more you rub onto your cheeks, the more intense it gets. (This actually worries me slightly. What if I forget I’m wearing it and rub my face for some reason? Will I end up with bizarre, red cheeks?) It comes in two shades – Rose Flush and Coral Flush – and is £18 at Boots. One to add to the “Most Try” list, I think! L’Oréal Paris Dermo Expertise Collagen Micro-Vibration Eye
I guess we can file this one under “Why Am I Not Surprised?” After all, everything else seems to vibrate in the beauty world these days, so why not skincare? This is eye care, to be exact: it’s L’Oréal’s Dermo Expertise Collagen Micro-Vibration Eye cream, and as well as delivering many of the benefits we’ve come to expect from an under-eye cream (reduces puffiness and dark circles, claims to reduce wrinkles), the vibrating pen it comes in can also be used to gently massage the under-eye area, helping to improve circulation and will also help to “drain” the area, apparently. Priced at £16.99, this is available exclusively at Boots, and delivers 130 micro-vibrations every second. Anyone tried it? Paper Plane vintage postcard makeup purse
This little makeup purse doesn’t look like it’s going to hold a huge amount of cosmetics, but does look the perfect size to tote around those everyday essentials – you know, the lipstick, concealer and whatever else you just can’t do with out and must have on your person at all times. This is £14.99, and it’s available here. St Tropez Tan Detox gets rid of self-tan build-upBecause I’m far too lazy for the maintenance that goes into self-tanning on a regular basis, I tend to only hit the bottle when I absolutely have to: i.e. when I know I’m going to be baring my legs without the benefit of tights, trousers, or anything else that successfully masks their deathly paleness. Living in Scotland, of course, means that this doesn’t happen very often at all, because most of the time it’s way too cold for that kind of malarky. By the time you read this, however, I’ll (hopefully) be on holiday in Florida, enjoying a rare blast of heat on my cold, pale limbs, and this means that I’ll be applying my gradual self-tanner every couple of days. To start with, everything will run smoothly. After the first week, though, I’ll start to run into problems. The first couple of self-tan applications, you see, will get old. They’ll start to flake off, and look patchy and nasty, and I’ll start to look a little bit like I have some kind of terrifying skin disease, particularly on the chest, which is where this flaking will be most obvious. Simply applying more tanner over the top will fix the problem for a little while… but only for a little while. Exfoliating helps too, but it doesn’t completely remove the oldest, patchiest areas of tan, which means that by the end of my three-week stay, I’ll probably have given up altogether, and will be in the process of allowing myself to return to my natural, pasty shade, getting rid of all that build-up before beginning the process all over again. If only I had some of St. Tropez’ Tan Detox. This is a bath oil that helps rid your skin of self-tan buildup, getting rid of the accumulation of old self-tanner, and leaving your skin soft, smooth, natural… and ready for the next application of tanner, if you so desire. Because it’s a bath oil, the whole process should actually be pleasant and relaxing, too, which is another bonus as those aren’t words I’m used to using in connection with fake tan. The downside of this is that it’s fairly expensive at £25 per bottle, although they have thrown in an exfoliating cloth, too. If you want to try it out, it’s available at Harrods and QVC.

Mini hair straighteners from TopshopThe launch of their new makeup line last month made the Topshop website even more dangerous to my bank balance than it was previously, and hey, look: now they’re even selling mini hair straighteners, too! Teeny-weeny straighteners are something I’ve had on my Wish List for a while now – my regular sized ones are a little too heavy to travel with, especially given the equally teeny-tiny luggage allowances most airlines seem to give you these days, so these would be ideal. Sure, at this size they’re probably not going to be idea for those of you with a full head of hair that needs straightened every day, but if you’re like me, and really only need to run your straighteners over your fringe, and the shorter strands at the front, they could just be a good buy for £10. Plus, they come in a red polka dot case (and other colours/designs too), so at least you know they’ll LOOK the part! They’re £10, and you can buy them here. | |||||||||||
