Dr Perricone’s Private Reserve Serum: yours for £595

dr perricone private reserve serum Dr Perricone’s Private Reserve Serum: yours for £595

Dr. Perricone’s Private Reserve Serum: it’s like one of those private members clubs that we ordinary mortals don’t even know exist, so exclusive is it. The story behind this serum is that it comes from the Doctor’s own private supply, which has previously only been available to a few famous faces: however, luckily for us, it’s now been made available at Harrods, so we can all sample it’s age-defying benefits.

Of course, I say “all”: given that this is priced at £595 for 30ml, I seriously doubt it’s going to be within the reach of most of us. In fact, you could argue that it’s not much less exclusive now that it’s being sold online. Still, I’m going to assume that for that price it really IS the miracle worker it claims to be, and those claims include anti-ageing, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant (a lot of “antis”, then), skin firming and collagen enhancing benefits, plus “a combination of five gold standard neuropeptides to improve texture, tone, firmness, radiance, smoothness, lines and wrinkles.” The blurb also states that your skin will feel firmer after just one application, which will certainly be reassuring after you’ve dropped almost £600ml on it. Personally, I’d want to look like Cheryl Cole after one application for that price, but I’m clearly not part of the target market for this in any case, so what does everyone else think? Would you spend £600 on a serum?

Smashbox ‘Wish for a Flawless Complexion’ Set

smashbox gift set Smashbox Wish for a Flawless Complexion Set

You can always tell we’ve turned the corner of the year and are heading down the hill towards Christmas when all of the beauty gift sets start showing up in the stores. Not that I’m complaining, mind you: while these undoubtedly make great gifts in their own right, they’re also often a nice way to try out some of the products you’ve had your eye on but don’t want to risk paying full price for in case they don’t work out.

This little Smashbox set is a case in point. The Photo Finish Primer needs no introduction, and has well and truly earned its place on my Holy Grail list, but the other two products are ones I haven’t yet tried. Both come from the ‘Photo Finish’ family (which leads me to suspect there probably wouldn’t be too much of a risk involved in a full-price purchase): they’re the Targeted Pore and Line Primer and Line Primer, and the three of these together will set you back $39.99, which doesn’t seem like too much to pay, if, indeed, they do give you the “flawless complexion” promised in the title?

Soap & Glory Arch De Triumph Eyebrow Shaping and Highlighting Kit

soap and glory arch de triumph Soap & Glory Arch De Triumph Eyebrow Shaping and Highlighting Kit

I’ve written more than enough recently about my ongoing attempts to tame my eyebrows into submission, and while I’m currently perfectly happy with the GOSH brow products I wrote about last week, I’m always keeping an eye(brow) out for the next weapons that might join my beauty arsenal.

For some reason, brow products can be quite expensive, so Soap & Glory’s Arch de Triumph seems like a pretty good deal to me. The pack contains a double-ended pencil (I have an almost identical one from Anastasia, which cost a lot more), plus a set of eyebrow stencils, and together these will cost you just £7.50. I’ve paid more than that for stencils alone, so assuming these are of good quality, I think it’s a good price. The pencil has a brow shaper on one end and a highlighter on the other, and the stencils come shaped for petite, medium and high brows: you can buy it at ASOS.com, or anywhere else that stocks Soap & Glory.

Clinique Long Last Glosswear Key Chain for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

clinique liogloss key chain1 Clinique Long Last Glosswear Key Chain for Breast Cancer Awareness MonthAs I’m sure many of you are aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which means there are lots of pink-themed products around which allow you to indulge your love of beauty while also contributing to a great cause.

I was sent this Clinique Lipgloss Keychain, which I think would make a nice stocking filler or other gift, because once you’ve used up the three little miniature lipglosses, you’re left with a cute little key chain which you can continue to use.

Dollface Reviews: Wella Lifetex Color Reflex Mask in Red

wella lifetex review Dollface Reviews: Wella Lifetex Color Reflex Mask in Red
When I wrote about my search for a replacement for John Frieda’s discontinued ‘Radiant Red’ colour mask last month, a couple of you suggested Wella’s Lifetex range, and last week I finally got around to ordering myself a tube of the Color Reflex Mask in red.

This is basically an intensive conditioner which is also designed to have an “illuminating” effect on red hair, giving you an intenser, shinier colour. In other words, it’s a lot like the John Frieda product I loved so much, and as it comes in at roughly the same price point (I paid £7.65 at Feelunique.com) I was really keen to try it.

Dollface Reviews: Boots No. 7 Foundation Brush

boots foundation brush review Dollface Reviews: Boots No. 7 Foundation Brush

My makeup brushes are all badly in need of replacing, and rather than remortgaging my house to buy a completely new set all at the same time (OK, so I’m exaggerating here, but only a little bit…) I’ve decided to try and limit myself to one per month for as long as it takes to get through them all.

Because I can be a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to things like this, though, rather than following my instincts straight to MAC, I decided to have a quick look around the Boots website while I was re-ordering my eye-makeup remover and conditioner this month, and discovered this Boots No. 7 Foundation Brush. At just £11 this definitely isn’t the most expensive foundation brush out there, but it isn’t the cheapest, either. I’ve come to associate the No. 7 brand with good quality, though, so I decided to take a chance on it, and I’m really glad I did, because I actually think I got a bit of a bargain here.

The bristles are lovely and soft, and haven’t shed a single hair since I got this. It picks up just the right amount of foundation, and lets me buff it onto my skin, without any brush marks, and although it’s soft, it’s not so soft that it’s unusable. I tend to use my fingers to apply foundation more often than not, but since I’ve had this, I’ve found myself reaching for it every time, and it’s helping me rediscover the benefits of using a decent brush to apply liquid foundation, so I’m pretty pleased with it, and may check out some of the other brushes from this range next month, when I’m ready to buy another. Now I just need to decide which of my existing brushes is most in need of replacing…

If you want to check this one out for yourself, meanwhile, click here to order it from Boots.

My favourite beauty products of September

rimmel nail polish double decker red My favourite beauty products of September

I can’t quite believe it’s October already, can you? This has been the fastest year ever, so before we consign September to memory forever, I thought I’d take a quick look back at five of the products that have been in constant rotation this month, kicking off with an all-time favourite: my beloved Rimmel Lasting Finish nail polish in Double Decker Red. This is just the most perfect shade of red I own: it’s rarely off my toes, and it’s often on my fingernails, too, although not today, as you can see. Moving on…
