Happy New Year from Dollface!

happy new year from dollface Happy New Year from Dollface!

Well, folks, I’m getting ready to shut up shop for the year, and take off to spend the next few days overindulging in good food, good wine and good company, but before I do, I just wanted to take a few moments to say thank you to all of my readers for your support over the past year, and particularly over the past few weeks of sparse posting due to my vacation and the holidays. I’m looking forward to getting things back on track next year, and hope you’ll come back to see what 2011 will bring: have a great new year!

love,
Amber x

Smashbox Brow Tech To Go Waterproof Brow System

smashbox brow tech Smashbox Brow Tech To Go Waterproof Brow SystemI got a sample of Smashbox’s Brow Tech palette at Sephora a couple of years ago, and was really impressed with it, but of course, the sample size didn’t last for long, so I’m even more impressed to find this waterproof pen version available at QVC.

This actually looks a little better than the original to me: the retractable pencil is double ended, with one side housing the brown pencil, and the other holding a clear gel which will both condition the hair and hold it in place. Perfect for those of you who, like me, have “problem” brows (to put it mildly), which constantly need to be put in their place, this is £23.76 – click here to buy it.

Illamsqua Christmas Nail Varnish Duo: Untold & Ruthless

illamasqua christmas nail polish duo Illamsqua Christmas Nail Varnish Duo: Untold & Ruthless

This is going to be my last post before the Christmas break, so I thought I’d show you something suitably “Christmassy” – enter Illamasqua’s Christmas Nail Polish Duo, Untold & Ruthless, which are about as festive as cosmetics get, and can be worn either separately or together. Gorgeous, and equally suitable the rest of the year, too! (Click here to buy them)

I’m now heading off to spend the holiday with my family, so I hope you all have a lovely Christmas if you celebrate it, and I’ll see you next week!

Lancome Hypnose Drama Shimmering Mascara Topcoat

lancome hypnose drama shimmering topcoat Lancome Hypnose Drama Shimmering Mascara TopcoatHaving adopted Lancome’s Hypnose Drama as my Holy Grail Mascara earlier this year, I naturally find myself drawn to anything bearing the Hypnose Drama name, and that includes this shimmering topcoat, which is designed to give your lashes a bit of sparkle.

This doesn’t have to be used with a Lancome mascara – it’ll work over anything – and while I’ve no idea what it’ll look like when it’s on, or just how glittery it’ll be, I’d be tempted to at least take a look at it if I happened to be passing a Lancome counter, which I’m pretty sure I will be, sooner or later. (For me, ALL roads eventually lead to a Lancome counter…)

If you’d like to just buy it online, meanwhile, you can do so by clicking here.

Make Up For Ever ‘Rock For Ever Dany’s Essentials’ kit

makeup up forever essentials kit Make Up For Ever Rock For Ever Danys Essentials kit

Yup, it’s another huge makeup kit: well, if a girl can’t dream about owning one of these at Christmas, when can she?

At $597, dreaming’s ALL I’ll be doing about this, obviously, but in its defence, it does contain 28 full-sized products, plus the train case itself, so if you’re a Make Up For Ever fan, this could be worth saving up for. There are far too many products for me to list here, but you’ll find a full list at Sephora, where you can also buy this online.

Bobbi Brown Exclusive Deluxe Beauty Trunk

bobbi brown beauty trunk Bobbi Brown Exclusive Deluxe Beauty Trunk

Every year at this time, I look forward with much excitement to the arrival of Bobbi Brown’s annual deluxe beauty trunk. Not the literal arrival, you understand: that’s an “only in my dreams” kind of thing, and I don’t think I’ve been nearly good enough this year to expect something like this under the tree. I do enjoy admiring it from afar, though, and imagining the sheer joy of unpacking such a treasure-trove of beauty products from one of my favourite brands.

This year’s trunk is black and shiny, with an opulent red interior:

Inside, meanwhile, you’ll find this little lot:

Nail Rock Nail Wraps

nail rock nail wraps Nail Rock Nail Wraps

I’ve written about nail stickers/wraps before here, and the idea gets more appealing with every new set I stumble across.

These ones are by Nail Rock, and are down to £5.20 at ASOS, which makes it all too tempting for me to just slip a pack into my basket next time I’m buying yet another dress from there. There are three different sets of wraps to choose from – a metallic collection, an animal print collection, and a “fashion prints” one. Both of the sets above come from the “fashion” collection, and while my obsession with polka dots means the red ones would probably be first on my list, I thought the denim zip-effect wraps were pretty interesting too, if you fancy something completely different.

Beauty Wishlist: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire & Ice

revon fire and ice relaunched Beauty Wishlist: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire & Ice

As a lover of all things (well, OK, most things) retro, I’d probably always have been interested in the re-launch of Revlon’s iconic ‘Fire & Ice’ lipstick: the fact that it just so happens to be that perfect shade of red is just an added bonus!

The shade was originally launched in 1952, and makes a limited edition comeback this year, as part of Revlon’s new ‘Fire & Ice’ collection. This is what they, rather endearingly, refer to as a “lips and tips” collection, as it features matching shades of the brand’s Super Lustrous Lipstick and Nail Enamel, in ‘Siren’, ‘Temptress’ and ‘Demure’.

It’s the re-issue of the original Fire & Ice, which comes in a vintage look silver case, however, that really interests me: I’ll have to see it in person to be sure, of course, but doesn’t it look like that perfect “red” we’re always searching for (and by “we”, I mean “I”, of course)?

I also like the ad campaign, featuring Jessica Biel:

This is available from now until January, so look out for it at Revlon stands everywhere, and bear in mind that it’s limited edition, so if you want to try it, you better act fast!

NOTD: GOSH Nail Polish in 064 Frou-Frou

gosh nail polish frou frou NOTD: GOSH Nail Polish in 064 Frou Frou

This post is actually a little redundant, because I was wearing this polish in yesterday’s photos (in fact, this photo was taken yesterday, too, which explains that!), but I like it so much I thought it deserved a post of its own.

This is one of the three GOSH polishes I bought at the weekend. I’d actually already picked out the other two without realising there was a 3-for-2 offer, so I rushed back and quickly picked this one up as my freebie. I wanted to try one of these as soon as I got home, but I didn’t have a whole lot of time to spare, so I went for this one, thinking it would be the most forgiving of the three if I managed to get it on my fingers as well as on my nails, which is a common problem for me.

Well, I was totally right about that, and it reminded me why I like pale, shimmery polishes almost as much as my usual bright red ones: they’re just so much easier to use! This photo was taken after two coats, but previous to that I’d been wearing it with just one coat for a couple of days, and not only did it look almost as shiny, it also hadn’t chipped at all: result!

I really love the colour of this, which is shimmery, but not too OTT, so I can’t wait to try the silver and gold versions, too. If you want to try this one, meanwhile, it’s £5 at Superdrug.

Beauty Products of the Month: November 2010 Edition

coastal scents eye shadow frenzy Beauty Products of the Month: November 2010 Edition

Just a few favourite products for last month: November is traditionally one of the busiest months of the year for me, because I’m frantically preparing for the holidays, and as I mentioned earlier this week, it doesn’t leave me much time to experiment with makeup! Still, here are the four products I’ve been most impressed with over the past few weeks!

1. Coastal Scents Mineral Eye Shadow in ‘Frenzy’

Now, I know I’m always saying I don’t often wear eye shadow, but this month I’ve been wearing this one, and I’ve been wearing it a lot. I actually thought I’d already reviewed this, which is why I didn’t bother taking any photos of it on, but I can’t find the review in the archive, so I’ll have to rectify that soon. As you can see from the photo, though, it’s a pale, shimmery pinkish-brown colour which looks very natural on, and provides more shimmer than colour, which is a good thing for those of us who weren’t blessed with eyeshadow-blending skills (and who tend to look like they had a fight with their makeup bag any time they try to wear shadow). I just sweep it all over the lid, and leave it at that. It provides some subtle definition, and looks good with just a sweep of eyeliner on the lid. (Buy it here)
