Monthly Archives: January 2011Normal service will resume shortly…Just a quick note to say sorry for the lack of posts here recently: I had a couple of unexpected projects pop up last week which sucked up all of my time, and now I’ve managed to go and get sick, so unfortunately I’ve had neither the time nor the inclination to try out new products. I’m busy dosing myself up with Lemsip and vitamin C, however, and my current busy phase should end this week, so normal service will resume soon. Until then, thanks for sticking with me, and feel free to talk amongst yourselves! Dollface x

Cupcake hand cream from Dorothy Perkins
This is cherry scented, and costs just £5, making it all too easy to just slip it into my your shopping basket next time I’m you’re buying a new pair of shoes from Dotty P’s. It’ll look a little nicer than standard pots of hand cream when it’s sitting around the house, too. (Click here to buy it) Batiste Tones: Dry shampoo with a hint of colourThe people at Batiste have been busy lately, and in addition to the various scented and coloured versions of their classic dry shampoo which came out last year, they’re now releasing Batiste Tones to the market. This is is a version of the spray which contains a hint of colour. Where this differs from the other Batiste sprays, some of which also include colour, is that whereas those ones are designed simply to blend with your natural colour (getting rid of that “grey roots” effect the original formula can create if you’re not very careful), these ones are designed to actually ADD colour, and can apparently even cover greys, as well as allowing you to blend in regrowth in coloured hair. So far, so good, and this certainly seems handy for anyone who colours their hair, and wants to be able to keep the roots at bay between treatments, but I do have one small quibble with this: although the press material for this product describes it as “for all hair colours”, predictably enough, it’s only available for ‘light and blonde’, ‘medium and brunette’ and ‘dark and deep brown’. I don’t really see red or black hair fitting into any of these, but, of course, I’m happy to hear otherwise. If you want to try this out for yourself, meanwhile, it’s £3.05, and available from Boots, Superdrug and all the usual suspects. Diane Von Furstenberg ‘Sara’ anchor print makeup bag
This is called ‘Sara’, it has a cute little anchor design on the side, and it’s vinyl covered, so at least you don’t have to worry too much about those spillages! Click here to buy it from Shopbop.

NOTD: Barry M nail paint in Bright RedNow, I know what you’re thinking. You’re all, “Barry M, AGAIN? And MORE red nail polish? Does this chick even realise there are other brands and colours out there?” I do, I do, I promise. But I also don’t really care, because here’s the thing: I couldn’t love this more. It applies easily – one coat and you’re good to go – doesn’t chip too quickly, and is the perfect, retro red. And it’s only £2.99. LOVE. Click here to buy yourself some.

Dollface Reviews: Eyelure Naturalities False Eyelashes in 101Over the holiday period, I tend to develop a bit on an over-reliance on false eyelashes. Well, I mean, if you can’t have totally ridiculous lashes at Christmas time, when can you? These are my current favourites: they’re from Eyelure’s ‘Naturalities’ range, they’re number 101, and actually, the reason I like them so much is that while they’re still very obviously false lashes, they don’t look SO ridiculous that you feel like a drag queen in them. I stupidly used my last set before taking a photo of them, but this is what they look like in the packet: They’re traditional strip lashes, easy to apply with the glue provided, easy to remove with cotton wool and a bit of hot water. The best thing about them, though? You can buy them as a multipack – three sets of lashes for £13.74 at Boots. Click here to get ‘em… Benefit launch Bella Bamba brightening pink face powder
The latest blush I’ll probably miss out on unless someone’s prepared to pry my NARS Orgasm from my cold, dead hands, is Benefit’s latest release, Bella Bamba. This is a watermelon pink with gold undertones, which looks very pretty in the product shots, and comes packaged in Benefit’s signature cardboard box. I will make a mental note to stop and check this out next time I pass the Benefit counter in my local department store. You, meanwhile, can click here to buy it for $28. Follow Dollface on Facebook and TwitterJust a quick reminder that you can follow Hey, Dollface on Facebook and Twitter: you’ll find my Facebook page here, and I have two separate Twitter accounts (actually, I have four, but only two which are relevant to you Dollfaces…): the blog feed can be found here, and is updated automatically every time I publish a new post. Because those tweets are automatic, however, if you fancy a chat, you can also follow my personal Twitter, which you’ll find here. (Don’t forget to say hi if you do, so I can follow you back!)

Croc effect vanity cases from ASOSIf you read my personal blog, you may well know that I have a bit of an ASOS obsession going on at the moment. It’s an obsession that mostly revolves around dresses, but I could easily be persuaded to add one of these croc effect vanity cases to the list: or even to my shopping cart, come to think of it. The chic way to carry cosmetics, these probably won’t hold your full, day-to-day collection (not if it’s anything like the size of mine, which has commandeered the filing cabinet next to my desk as well as my Sephora train case and several other bags and boxes around the house), but they’d be perfect for a short trip somewhere, and will add a touch of old-fashioned glam to your travelling outfit, too. These are £30 each, and you can click here to buy one.

Dollface Reviews: Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau de ParfumAs my regular readers may recall, although I’ve admired the design of Marc Jacobs’ ‘Daisy’ for a while now, I hadn’t actually sampled what was inside, so when this gorgeous red bottle dropped through the door, courtesy of Coty, which is the company behind this scent, I couldn’t open it up fast enough. Before I tell you about the scent, though, I think the bottle deserves a little more investigation: This is the Pop Art edition of the perfume, which, as you can see, comes in a bright red bottle topped with three glossy black daisies. It’s the kind of scent that looks fantastic sitting on your dressing table, and that, naturally, makes it an excellent gift choice, especially for people like me, who’re easily drawn in by pretty packaging. Luckily, however, the scent inside is very pretty too. Now, I’m not great as describing fragrances, unfortunately: I just don’t seem to have the “nose” to be able to pick out the various notes, so the best I can do here is to tell you that this is a very light, fresh smell, which is floral and a bit fruity, and which is really a breath of fresh air at this time of year, when it’s still so dark and claustrophobic indoors, and something light and fresh is exactly what you need to keep your spirits up. For those of you with a better nose than me, however, you should be able to detect top notes of wild strawberry, heart notes of violet, jasmine and gardenia and base notes of vanilla infusion, musks and white woods. Yum. My one criticism of this is that the scent is very light and seems to fade a little quicker than my regular perfume, although that could just be because I’m wearing it so often at the moment that I’ve gotten used to it and stopped being aware of it (I hate it when that happens). It gets an enthusiastic thumbs-up from Mr. Dollface, too, however, so that’s good. For more info on this one, here’s the Marc Jacobs website: enjoy! | |||||||||||
