Alberto V05 Moisture Milks Shampoo in Strawberries and Cream

Vo5_moisture_milks I bought this shampoo while I was on holiday in the States earlier this year, and I have to be honest, I picked it up purely because it happened to be the cheapest shampoo in the store at the time.

I actually ended up buying two bottles by mistake (I thought I was buying a shampoo and conditioner, but picked up two shampoos by mistake - doh!) so I brought the second bottle home with me and promptly forgot all about it, until this week, when my regular shampoo ran out and I dug this one out of hiding.

When I did, I wished I had bought a couple more bottles. This is seriously one of the best smelling shampoos I've tried. The scent is strawberries and cream, and it's so sweet and delicious smelling that it makes my mouth water. It also makes the bathroom smell nice, which is an added bonus.

As for its cleaning properties, well, it does the job, leaving my hair clean, soft and above all, smelling like strawberries and cream. Not bad for $1.99.

Buy : V05 Moisture Milks Strawberries and Cream shampoo, $1.99

Nars Blush/Bronzer Duo in Orgasm/Laguna

Nars_orgasm_blush When I reviewed Nars Orgasm a few weeks ago, I forgot to mention that because the Sephora I visited was sold out of the shade in single blush, I ended up getting the Blush/Bronzer duo in Orgasm and Laguna.

This actually worked out pretty well for me because I was on holiday at the time and in need of some bronzer. I haven't used Laguna much since I got home because I just haven't had any need of it, but it's a sheer, light brown bronzing powder with a hint of shimmer.

Because I'm very pale skinned, a very little bit of this goes a long way, which is good, because it's probably going to last me for years! If you're darker skinned, or looking for a deeper bronze, you'll be able to layer it up easily enough.

Buy: Nars Blush/Bronzer Duo, $37

Dollface Reviews: Isomers Tan Trick self tanner

Tan_trick My legendary inability to apply fake tan without making myself look like a sepia-coloured zebra is well documented, so I want to begin this review of Isomers Tan Trick by saying that you should probably discount the fact that I ended up streakier than a piece of bacon when I tried to use this: I'm pretty sure that had nothing to do with the product itself and a whole lot to do with the aforementioned inability to apply it properly.

With that said, once the streakiness had abated (Which it did after another application), this turned out to be one of the nicest self tanners I've used in terms of colour. It's a really lovely, natural looking brown, and even Mr Dollface, who is a pretty harsh critic of my fake tanning attempts, said he liked the colour, and thought it looked natural.

Dollface Reviews: Boots No. 7 Younger Longer Time Resisting Hand Cream

Hand_cream Continuing with my quest for a hand cream that will soothe the dry skin on my hands but won't take ages to soak in, leaving me unable to type, I'm currently using Boots No. 7 Younger Longer Time Resisting Hand Cream, which I've been pretty happy with.

Although this is a fairly thick cream, it does absorb quickly - I can rub it on and then get back to work right away (yes, I am a workaholic) and it does a good job of making my hands smoother and softer. I also like the fact that it contains SPF 15: I think most of us know by now that it's a good idea to wear sun protection on our faces every day, but it's easy to forget our hands, which are one of the first parts of the body to show the signs of aging,

I got this in a trial size, as part of a gift with purchase, but it's still going strong after several weeks - a little goes a long way.

Buy: Boots No.7 Younger Longer Time Resisting Hand Cream, £9.95

(Note: I couldn't find this on the Boots website, so am assuming it's out of stock. You should be able to pick it up in-store, though)

Dollface Reviews: Shu Uemura mini eyelash curler

Eyelash_curler

I've said this before, I know, but eyelash curlers would be one of my Desert Island beauty items, right after tweezers and mascara. Nothing does more to help widen your eyes, and a good pair of eyelash curlers have the power to make even a mediocre mascara look like a great one.

Now, Shu Uemura are well known for being the best in the business when it comes to eyelash curlers, but, weirdly, I didn't actually own a pair,so when I saw these mini curlers at Sephora, I just had to have them.

The idea here is that the smaller-sized curler allows much greater precision, letting you get at those awkward corners and make sure that no lash goes un-curled. They're probably best used in conjunction with regular sized curlers, to give a bit of extra "ooomph" to your look, but I've been using them on their own, and they can be used that way too, although it can be a bit tricky to do this as you have to basically curl your lashes in sections, and it can be hard to get at one section without crushing the bit you've just curled.

That said, I can say that these definitely deserve their reputation. They create a strong, precise curl that will last for hours (I use waterproof mascara over the top to hold it in place), and although I've only been using them for a couple of months, which isn't a great test, so far they still seem as good as new.

As with all my curlers, I give them a quick blast with my hairdryer before use to make the curl even more defined. Just make sure you don't overdo it, or you'll damage the lash...

Buy: Shu Uemura mini eyelash curler, $17

Dollface Reviews: DuWop Doubleglow 7

Doubleglow7 This is another product that I really wanted to like. It went straight onto my Wish List when I first heard about it, back in January, and I finally picked up a jar in June of this year.

"June?" I hear you ask. "Isn't that, like, months ago now?"

Well, yes, it is. The reason it's taken me so long to get round to reviewing Doubleglow 7 is that I've barely used it, and the reason for that is that I just can't get to grips with this product at all. Read on to find out why...

Dollface Reviews: Philosophy 'The Present' clear makeup

Philosophy_the_present Oh dear. I really wanted to like this. In fact, I wanted to like it so much that although I bought it a couple of months ago, I've waited until now to review it because I kept hoping it would suddenly start to deliver.

All I can say, though, is Philosophy's 'The Present' is the emperor's new clothes of cosmetics for me, because as far as I can tell, it doesn't do a thing for me.

On its own:  Well, it's clear, and what can I say - it really didn't make any difference to my skin at all. I should add here that I wasn't expecting miracles. It would've been nice if The Present had delivered the perfect, airbrushed skin I had read about, but really, my skin looked exactly the same, both before and after use.

Dollface Reviews: Boots Golden Shimmer Instant Tan Makeup

Golden_shimmer As readers of my personal blog know all too well, I suck at applying fake tan. I mean, I say, "I suck"  - I've had my fair share of good fake tan experiences too, it has to be said, and at one point I considered myself quite the expert on fake tan application, using gradual tanners frequently during the summer months, and usually managing not to end up looking like some strange, streaky orange thing.

These days? Not so much.

The truth is, I'm much too lazy to deal with the constant upkeep of a fake tan job, so I tend to leave it until the last minute, then rush it and make a mess. This got to the stage earlier this year when I spent the week before my vacation to Florida trying to use nail polish remover to get rid of fake tan streaks, and decided that enough was enough: I would remain pale and, um, interesting.

Dollface Reviews: Dermelect Line Correction Eye Gel

Eye_gel

First up: sorry for the lack of posts this week, folks. We've been having technical issues which have left me with very little time to write anything, and Mr Dollface and I are also getting ready for a weekend away, which is something that requires a huge amount of forward-planning when you're self-employed, so if posts have been rather thin on the ground, that's why! Hopefully things should be getting back to normal next week.

Second up: You may notice some changes to the site template, some elements of which aren't working yet. Don't worry, we know about it: we've been doing some background work to the site, and we're not done yet, so please bear with us!

Third up - Dermelect Line Correction Eye Gel. I've been using this for a couple of weeks now, and loving the coolness of of it. I read another blogger's review (Sorry, I can't remember who it was, so if it was you, shout out so I can link to you!) who recommended keeping it in the fridge between applications, so I did that, and liked it even more.

I've been having loads of problems with the skin under my eyes lately. It tends to flare up when I'm stressed, and gets very red, dry and angry looking. When this happens, I try not to use anything other than specialist creams on it, but I did try Dermelect, and again, loved the coolness of it on my sore skin. I found it good at reducing puffiness, soothing and refreshing the skin, and less good at reducing lines -mine are still there, but then I guess it has only been a couple of weeks...

Dollface Reviews: Benefit Erase Paste

Benefit_erase_paste I hadn't been looking for a new concealer when I picked this up. I had been using Benefit's Boi-ing, which I was perectly happy with, but hey, if Benefit release a new product you can guarantee I'll be all over it like a rash, which is perhaps an unfortunate choice of words when you're talking about a beauty product, but true all the same.

When I bought this, I hadn't even been in the US for 24 hours, and my face was showing the signs of not just jet-lag, but of the stressful few weeks I'd just had immediately prior to my vacation. (Taking a break can sometimes feel like more stress than it's worth when you're self-employed, sadly). To say there were bags under my eyes would be an understatement.

Anyway, I bought my Erase Paste, choosing the palest shade possible ("fair") to match my pearly white skin, and that night, as I was getting ready for dinner, I decided to try it out...

Dollface Reviews: Sephora Nourishing Cuticle Oil Pen

Sephora_cutice_pen My nails suck. No, really, they do. I've never been a nail biter, but I can't stand the sensation of long nails on my keyboard, and I rarely have either the time or patience to give myself a proper manicure, so I tend to just file them down as short as possible and leave it at that. The result is a set of nails that are strong and healthy, but which just don't look very good.

And then there's the cuticles.

My cuticles are in a mess. They seem to grow very quickly, so I'll push them back and trim them down, but I always end up with a raggedy mess that I've never quite know how to fix. On my last trip to Sephora, however, I threw one of their Nourishing Cuticle Oil Pens in my basket - and then promptly forgot all about it.

Last week, however, the pen was rediscovered. Since then, it's sat on my desk all day, every day, and I've been using it as often as I can in a bid to show my neglected cuticles some love, and so far, it's paying off.

Dollface Reviews: NIVEA Visage Anti-Wrinkle Q10 Plus Sunkissed Skin

Nivea_visage As Baz Luhrmann might say, "If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it." Being red of hair and fair of skin, you see, I was raised to apply sunscreen religiously, and my face is rarely without it, even on the dullest of days.

The problem with that, though, is that sunscreen isn't the best thing to wear under your makeup: it's thick, it's gloopy, and that heavy white liquid can often leave my skin looking even whiter than it was to start with - something I wouldn't have thought possible.

Which brings me to NIVEA'S Anti-Wrinkle Q10 Plus for Sunkissed Skin, and the top two things I like about it:

1. It contains sunscreen - SPF15, in fact. This is just one of the ways it fights the signs of ageing, though: it also contains CoEnzyme Q10, which is a vitamin-like substance your body produces naturally, acting as an anti-oxidant, amongst other things.

2. It doesn't make your skin look ghostly pale: in fact, it does the exact opposite, thanks to the gradual, light tanning agent it contains.

Dollface Reviews: Anastasia Beverly Hills All About Brows Kit

Brown_kit If you read my post about how much I rely on my tweezers, you will know that eyebrows are important to me. Like, really important. And actually, I think eyebrows should be important to everybody. You probably don't need me to tell you that a well-groomed brow can act like an instant face lift, making you look younger, fresher, and sometimes changing the shape of your face altogether.

A badly-groomed brow, on the other hand? Let's not even go there...

With this in mind, I'd like to introduce you to my new best friend. It's Anastasia Beverly Hills' All About Brows Kit, which is $75 at Sephora, although you can buy the various components separately. This will be going everywhere with me from now on, and not just because it comes in a pretty pink carrying case (Yes, I know the one in this picture is purple, but mine is pink), but because this, quite simply, contains everything you'll ever need to create those perfectly groomed brows.

Dollface Reviews: Afterglow Cosmetics Organic Mineral Foundation

Afterglow_foundation Afterglow Cosmetics' Organic Mineral Foundation is 100% natural, contains a natural sunscreen, and it suitable for even the most sensitive of skin. Sadly, the trial tub was the wrong shade for my porcelain (ahem!) skin, so I handed it over to Norma of Keeping It Realtor (who does have sensitive skin), who writes:

"I've never really been much of a foundation wearer. I hate the feeling of heavy makeup on my skin, so tinted moisturiser normally suits me fine. As someone with, ahem, more mature skin, I also prefer a "dewy" look, rather than a powdery one, which I think can be very aging, so, when I tried Afterglow Cosmetics Organic Mineral Foundation, I have to admit, I didn't really expect to like it.

Well, it just goes to show that it's always worthwhile trying out something different every once in a while, because this was nothing like I'd imagined it...

Dollface Reviews: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer - the Holy Grail of primers!

Smashbox_photo_finish To have found one Holy Grail Beauty Product on my last trip to Sephora was pretty good going, I thought, but to find two? Amazing.

My second Holy Grail item is Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer. Again, this is a product that gets a lot of really great reviews, and all I can say is that they're all true. I absolutely love this product, and really regret the fact that I bought a trial-sized bottle, which I got as part of the Smashbox 'Try Me' Set, rather than the full-sized version, because I can tell I'm going to be getting through a lot of this.

There's some morre information about Photo Primer under the jump, but to be completely honest, all you really need to know is this: it feels like you're putting liquid silk onto your face. No, really, it does. This is slightly dangerous for me because the delicious feel of the stuff makes me want to wear much more of it than I really need to, but then, that's the reason this is part of my Holy Grail collection!

Reviewed By You: Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

Maybelline_great_lash_masca Some beauty products quickly become cults. You know the ones: they're the products you seem to hear about all the time, with makeup artists and mere mortals alike raving about them. Sometimes they live up to the hype, sometimes they don't, so, in a bid to find out whether these "must have" products really are as good as they claim to be, we're going to be running a series of polls to find out what you think of them all, kicking off with that perennial "favourite", Maybelline's Great Lash Mascara.

This product is the perfect example of what I was talking about above. Great Lash has won awards from a whole slew of beauty magazines. Lots of makeup artists says it's the only mascara they'll use, and its fans absolutely swear by it.

Then there's the rest of us.

Dollface Reviews: NARS Orgasm - the Holy Grail of blush!

Nars_orgasm Since I was just asking about your Holy Grail Beauty Products, I thought it was only fair to tell you about one of mine, namely NARS Orgasm blush - a product I've only being using for a few weeks, but which I already can't live without.

Now, everyone knows that NARS Orgasm is a popular blusher. It's one of the most talked-about products I know, and so many beauty lovers swear by it that you're probably wondering what took me so long? Good question...

Dollface Reviews: Afterglow Cosmetics Organic Mineral Blush in 'First Blush'

Prodblushfirstblush It would take a lot to drag me away from my beloved NARS Orgasm (more of that later), but this week I've been trying out Afterglow Cosmetics' Organic Mineral Blush, and have been pleasantly surprised with it.

For those who haven't heard of the brand, Afterglow Cosmetics is one of the leading organic mineral make-up brands in the US. Their products are now available in the UK, too, and the range is completely gluten free, cruelty free and vegan. So you can look beautiful with a conscience basically.

Dollface Reviews: Vaseline Lip Therapy 'Rosy Lips'

Vaseline_rosy_lips

Well, vacation time is over and it's back to work for Dollface. Everyone say, "aaawww!"

Luckily, I have lots of shiny new beauty products to keep me occupied now I'm home. Let's just say Sephora has seen a lot of me recently. And even more of my credit card, sadly. Today, though, I want to show you my newest acquisition, which is something I didn't buy in Sephora. In fact, it's something that arrived in the mail only this morning, making me stop what I was doing (Drinking coffee and twittering) to go, "Ooh, lookit this!"

"This", of course, is Vaseline's new 'Rosy Lips' petroleum jelly, which is basically Vaseline's classic Lip Therapy tin, with one important difference: it makes your lips "rosy". Now, who doesn't want rosy lips, I ask you? Raise your hand if you don't want rosy lips. See? No one.

I'm a fan of Vaseline Lip Therapy anyway, and always have a tin in my beauty box. I've been using the "original" formula for years now, but I love this one even more. The jelly itself is scented with rose and almond oils (although only very subtly) and the tint is perfect for creating that "English rose" look. It gives your lips a glossy wash of natural looking rosy colour, which I love, and it can also be used to give subtle colour/glow to your eyelids and cheekbones. I've mentioned before that I will sometimes use Benetint Lip Balm on my cheeks as well as my lips as a quick "pick me up" if I'm out and about, and this works in the same way. It's shinier than the Benefit product, but not too greasy, and good for that "dewy" look, to go with the rosy cheeks. It's also cheaper - just £1.49 for a tin.

I can tell this is going to be coming everywhere with me from now on. If you want to buy some for yourself, you're going to have to wait until next month, when it'll be available from all of the usual sources - Boots, Superdrug, etc.

Rating:  5/5

Dollface Reviews: Schick Quattro disposable razor

Schick_quattro

I have to admit, the first time I used the Schick Quattro, I thought I'd made a mistake and left the plastic protective cover on the blades. (Yes, that's totally the kind of thing I would do...) This is a really gentle shaver -so gentle, in fact, that I'd think it would be pretty difficult to cut yourself with it, although, in the interests of not being sued, please don't take my word for that, and exercise your usual caution if you do decide to try it!

While the safety aspects of it are pretty impressive, however (if you've ever had to walk around after a shower with bits of loo roll stuck to your legs where you cut yourself shaving, you'll know what I mean here...), it's the quality of the shave that interested me the most, and it didn't disappoint here, either, leaving my legs smooth and hair-free, which is, after all, exactly what you look for in a razor.

The softness may have something to do with the conditioning strip, which contains Aloe and Vitamin E, but this also uses four synchronized blades, which makes it easy to get to all of those little, annoying hairs, while its still safe enough to use on difficult areas like around the knees, without leaving the bathroom looking like a scene from Psycho.

Dollface Reviews: Crystal Light vitamin enhanced drinks

Crystal_light We all know how good water is for your skin, body and general sense of wellbeing. Here's the thing, though: I don't like drinking water. Not on its own, anyway. And it's not that I dislike it - I mean, what's to dislike? - it's just that water is boring, so if I'm not feeling particularly thirsty, I'll struggle to drink as much of it as I should. And even if I am thirsty, I'll generally try to go for something that actually tastes of something before I reach for the water...

Enter Crystal Light, with their vitamin enhanced drinks, which claim to take your water from "pale to pumped". These little sachets can be poured into bottled water, giving it flavour and vitamins. They've just added three new varieties to their lineup:

Focus Citrus Splash
Metabolism + Peach Mango Green Tea
Red Tea Mandarin

So far my favourite is the Red Tea Mandarin, which is caffeine free and contains a mix of green and white tea fortified with antioxidant Vitamins A, C and E. Oh, and it's absolutely delicious, and a great (not to mention healthier) alternative to my usual coffee on these warm days we've been having recently.

I've been trying out the "on the go" packets, which are designed to be poured into bottled water and drunk, well, on the go, but the drinks come in ready to drink bottles and individual tubes, too, each of which contains less than five calories.

Buy: Crystal Light

Dollface Reviews NIVEA My Silhouette! sculpting gel cream

Nivea_my_silhouette It's actually going to be pretty tricky to provide an accurate review of NIVEA's new My Silhouette! gel, which claims to help you lose up to three inches on the areas you apply it to (Bums, legs and tums, basically), because I'm currently trying to up my exercise regime in order to get in shape for my holiday, so it'll be hard to know whether any results come from the gel or the gym!

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, though: I measured my thighs this morning (The things I do for this blog!) and will aim to apply My Silhouette! to them morning and night for the next month, and let you know how I get on with it.

So far, the first surprise is the colour: My Silhouette! is a vivid green, which I totally wasn't expecting when it came out of the tube. That aside, it has a fresh, fruity smell (I may be going mad, but it reminds me of a perfume, although I can't put my finger on which one!) which is nice and invigorating to use in the morning, and it absorbs quickly into the skin. Will it give me thinner, smoother thighs, though? I guess I'm about to find out...

(Remember, you can try out My Silhouette! for yourself by visiting the NIVEA blog and requesting a sample...)

Dollface Reviews: The Floral Collection Magnolia Moisturising Hand & Nail Cream from Marks and Spencer

Hand_cream Now, Marks  Spencer isn't usually the first place I think of when I'm buying cosmetics and skincare, and it has to be said that there's something just a little bit "Little Old Lady-ish" about the appearance of this Magnolia hand cream. But there's a tube of it sitting in front of me as I type this, and it suddenly occurred to me that I've been using it for weeks now and haven't given it a review, so here it is...

As you'd expect from a product from 'The Floral Collection', this hand cream smells... floral. It smells very floral, in fact, and I suspect it may be a little too cloying for some of you as it's pretty strong and lingering. With that said, the scent is a fairly pleasant one, and if you like it, you'll probably find its strength a major plus point.

For me, the biggest plus point of this cream, though, is how easily absorbed it is. I hate using hand cream, and I tend to avoid using it most of the time, purely because there's just never really a time when I'm able to sit around for twenty minutes not touching anything while I wait for the cream to absorb.

This one, though, absorbs in just a couple of minutes if you rub it in properly, and will leave your hands feeling nice and soft - albeit rather strongly scented. For only £2 a tube, I think it's a pretty good deal - but only if you like the scent of flowers!

Buy: The Floral Collection Magnolia Moisturising Hand & Nail Cream, £2

Dollface Reviews: Sisley Phyto Levres Gloss - sheer lipliner

Lipgloss

Confession time: because of my issues with finding lipstick that works with my colouring, I tend to just use lip liner, and colour my lips in with it. Add a slick of clear gloss and no one can tell the difference (and it tends to last longer than lipstick does), so Sisley's Phyto Levres Gloss is pretty much my ideal product.

This is a lip liner which is also a gloss. Sounds improbable, but It actually works rather well. This comes in pencil form, as shown above (you get a sharpener with it, which is a nice touch). It's super-soft, and so it should be - it contains kokum butter and aloe vera to make it as smooth and comfortable to wear as possible, and it glides on like a dream.

The colour itself is rich, with a shimmery finish to it, which gives it that gloss effect. and it certainly feels more like lipstick or gloss than pencil - there's none of that dryness that I associate with most lip liners, and its soft enough to use over the entire lip area.

This comes in four different colours: I tried 'Mangue Givree' which is a kind of peachy coral, and it was still in place by the time I'd reached the bottom of my cup of coffee!

Check out the Sisley website for stockists

Dollface Reviews: Johnson's 3in1 Eye Makeup Remover

Eye_makeup_remover Given that some people actually use Johnson's famous Baby Oil as an eye makeup remover, I guess it was only to be expected that the brand would release the real thing. They did that with their 3in1 Eye Makeup Remover Pads, and now they've done it again with this 3in1 Eye Makeup Remover lotion.

Now, I always wear waterproof mascara, so any eye makeup remover I use has to be a good one to get rid of it without forcing me to scrub at my eyes - never a good thing. Happily, Johnson's 3in1 does exactly what it says on the tin bottle: "Gently removes even waterproof mascara."

This is a double layered formula, so you need to give it a quick shake before use to separate the two layers and then apply with a cotton wool pad: my waterproof mascara came off quickly and easily, in just a few seconds, and I didn't have to rub hard at my eyes to get rid of it.

As Johnson's made their name making baby products, they've also developed a reputation for products which are gentle and don't irritate the skin, and this certainly delivers on that count too: while this isn't oily, like the Baby Lotion, you can tell that it contains moisturisers, so it doesn't leave the skin around the eye feeling dry or sore.

As for the other two selling points (Well, it is called '3in1'), this formula will also condition your eyelashes and care for the delicate eye area. I've used it a couple of times, and can't say I've noticed any difference in the condition of my eyelashes, but it is gentle and mild, and a good buy at just £2.99.

Dollface Reviews: Lush 'Sweetie Pie' shower jelly

Sweetie_pie I actually bought this for my husband, because he loves unusual bath products, especially if they come from LUSH Cosmetics, but who could blame me for occasionally stealing a little bit for myself every now and again?

Actually, it's pretty hard to resist helping myself to some Sweetie Pie because this stuff is gorgeous: Lush say it smells like "Donuts and cherry muffins", and while I can't identify the scent quite that specifically, I will agree that it smells totally sweet and very edible.

This is a bath jelly, which might make you think that it's just going to disintegrate on contact with water, but Lush jellies are made of sterner stuff than that, and it will stand firm while you use it in exactly the same way you'd use a soap. A little goes a long way with this, too, so you simply break off a little bit, use it and revel in the gorgeous scent.

The scent, of course, is the major attraction with this; as well as being sweet, it's also very long lasting, which means that I'm instantly caught out every time I try to steal it because my husband can smell it on me as soon as I come near him, and it'll also leave your bathroom smelling sweet, too. Lovely.

Buy: Sweetie Pie shower jelly, $13, LUSH Cosmetics

Dollface Reviews: Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation

Max_factor_lasting_finish_f I normally buy high-end foundation, and don't have any Max Factor products in my collection at all at the moment, so I wasn't sure what to expect of Max Factor's Lasting Performance Foundation, even although I'd read some good reviews of it. A drugstore brand foundation that's as good as a high-end product? Surely it could not be, I thought, but actually, I was very pleasantly surprised when this arrived.

This is called Lasting Finish for a reason: its a foundation that gives good, fairly thick coverage and the claim is that it will stay put for at least eight hours. Actually, it lasts for longer than that, which is a very good thing because personally I don't think eight hours is a particularly long time, and I'd expect my foundation to stay put for longer than that.

Dollface Reviews: Redken 'All Soft' shampoo

Redken_shampoo As always, I was skeptical about reviewing a new shampoo, because, as I've mentioned here before, I rarely notice much of a difference between them. I swear I have some kind of shampoo dyslexia or something.

Not this time, though. Redken's All Soft, as the name suggests, is supposed to leave your hair feeling... well, soft.  And guess what? It does!

A small blob of this is enough to work up a pretty good lather, and although the first time I used it I felt that my hair was left feeling a little limp, subsequent uses have changed that opinion, and I'm now finding my hair to be softer, and easier to manage than it has been of late. It's formulated for very dry/brittle hair, which mine certainly is at the moment, and it nourishes as well as cleaning, so it's not as harsh as some shampoos.

This is a very moisturizing formula. I haven't yet tried it without a conditioner for afters, purely because I have a conditioner habit that makes me slick the stuff on in the shower without even thinking about it, but I actually think this shampoo could be enough on its own, and I'll be trying that out shortly.

Redken isn't the cheapest shampoo in the world, and it'll cost you about £9 in the UK, but so far I've been liking it enough to find it worth the money. Anyone else use this?

Dollafce Reviews: Benefit High Brow - brow lifting and enhancing pencil

Benefit_high_brow

Another Benefit product, and another wholehearted recommendation from me. This is High Brow - a brow lifting and enhancing pencil or, as I like to think of it, "a face lift in a pencil".

What does it do?

Applied just under the arch of the brow, this enhanced your eyebrows, giving them instant "lift" and creating the appearance of perfect, arched brows, even when you don't have them. How does it do it? Honestly, I have no idea: it's hard to put your finger on just what High Brow does to make such a difference, but I can tell you that it does make a difference, making my brows look so much more groomed and dramatic than they do without it. That said, although this looks like it's going to be a very "eveningy" product, given that it's essentially a shimmery pencil, it actually goes on fairly naturally, and if you blend it in properly, won't give you a "plastered with makeup" look.

Dollface tip:

Don't just use it to highlight your eyebrows. A touch of High Brow in the corner of the eye, next to the nose, will give you a wide-eyed look, and I also use it on the Cupid's bow of the lips to make them look fuller.

Rating: 5/5

Dollface Reviews: Britney Spears 'Believe' perfume and body lotion

Britney_spears_believe Do you believe in Britney? I do - or I believe in her new fragrance anyway, which is probably as surprising to you as it was to me, because I've always been highly skeptical of celebrity fragrances.

When this review package arrived, then, I was pleasantly surprised. "Great bottle!" said Mr Dollface and I, as I took it out of the box, and indeed, it is a great bottle - satisfyingly chunky and heavy, and nice enough to put out on display. Other than a tiny little heart on the cap, there's absolutely no other Britney-branding either, making it surprisingly subtle for a lady who's made a career out of being anything but.

Dollface Reviews: Pencil Me In eye accent pencil from Coastal Scents

Eyeliner This is such a great idea - an eye pencil with a sharpener built into the lid. So simple, but oh-so-handy if, like me, you have a habit of losing some of the smaller items in your beauty box (pencil sharpeners included).

This is Coastal Scent's Pencil Me In, which comes in 30 different colours. I've been trying out the colour shown to the left, which is called 'Mint Sparks' - it's a sparkly, shimmery green which subtly lights up the eyes, and is perfect for evening, but would also be pale enough for a glam daytime look, too. No smudging or fading so far after a few hours use, ad I would love to try the 'Jet Sparks' colour, which is black, glittery eye liner - what's not to love?

Dollface Reviews: Rimmel Hide the Blemish concealer

Hide_the_blemish In all the years I've been wearing makeup (and there's been a lot of them), there's just one product that's occupied its own special place in my makeup bag, from my teenage years to now. (Note: it hasn't been the exact same item all that time. That would just be weird. And also: yuck!). That product is Rimmel's Hide the Blemish concealer, and while these days I don't use it as often as I used to, I keep on buying it, for the following reasons:

1. It's cheap - just £3.69 per tube.

2. Despite this, it does exactly what it says on the tube: hides the blemishes. HTB is fantastic at covering spots and other flaws. The coverage is thick, but not flaky, and it tends to be the product I reach for every time a pimple rears its ugly head. What it's NOT so good at, however, is other acts of concealment. I find it too thick to use on the dark circles around my eyes, for instance, and will use a highlighter like Touche Eclat or Benefit's Boi-ing instead.

3. It lasts forever. While it's not the same tube of concealer that's been in my makeup bag for the past fifteen years, now I come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I had to replace the tube I have at the moment. Time for a new one, perhaps?

Score: 4/5 for blemish concealment

Dollface Reviews: Paradise Sand Mica from Coastal Scents - powder for eyes, lips or face

Eyeshadow_2

Before we go any further here, I should just point out that the picture below doesn't really do justice to this powder. In real life it's much prettier and has much more of a sheen to it, so blame my photographic skills rather than the shadow itself for the fact that it doesn't look quite as good here as it does on your skin!

(I should also point out that I just applied this really roughly before my morning shower to let you see the colour, so no criticism of my makeup skills either, please!)

With that little disclaimer out of the way, this is Paradise Sands Mica powder from Coastal Scents, and I'm pretty enamored with it. In the picture below, I've used it dry, as eyeshadow, but you can also use it wet, and on your face or lips. The powder itself has an insane amount of sparkle to it, which I love. As with most shadows, though, applying a smaller amount and blending it in well will give you a much more subtle look, and I wouldn't hesitate to wear it for daytime, although it should be said that I'm a fan of "sheen". Yes.

If you build it up, however, it will give you a really intense, metallic look, which is very dramatic and best used for glitzy occasions!

I've only tried it as an eyeshadow (and been impressed with its staying power, too - no bleeding and it has stayed put all day - so far) but as I mentioned above, it can also be used on your lips and face. When I tried rubbing it in to my hand, it left a gorgeous, shimmery glow, so I would be tempted to use it that way for a summer evening look, on my face, or you could really use it anywhere you wanted a bit of a sparkly glow.

Take a look under the jump for some pictures of it on...

Dollface Reviews: Skinkiss Caffeine Tights

Caffeinetights Skinkiss Caffeine Tights aren't the usual type of beauty product we tend to review here, because they are, in fact, clothes rather than a cream, lotion or potion. They do, however, have a beauty-related purpose, and leave it to Dollface to find out what it is...

Caffeine Tights, you say? What are they?

Just like it says on the tin packet, they're tights infused with micro-capsules of caffeine - yes, the kind that you drink in your coffee. As you wear the tights, the caffeine is released into your skin, where it helps burn fat, reduce the circumference of your thighs and help mimimise the appearance of cellulite. Sounds good, no?

The tights come foil-packed, just like coffee, with each pack containing three pairs of tights. The tights can be washed up to five times each before you wash out the caffeine, and it'll take two to four weeks before you'll see the results. Take a look after the jump to see how our intrepid tester (Norma of Keeping It Realtor) got on when she tried caffeine tights out for herself...

Dollface Reviews: Flash Lips Lip Gloss by Liperazzi at Miss Groovy

Lipgloss This week I've been trying out Flash Lips Lipgloss by Liperazzi, the packaging of which won me over right away, because:

1. I'm a sucker for packaging

2. The gloss has a mirror on the side of it - no need to cart around lipgloss and a mirror

3. It lights up when you press the button on the cap. Now, I don't necessarily recommend trying to apply any kind of makeup in the dark, but it's pretty cool to play with, and yes, I have been playing with it a lot.

4. It has a charm hanging off the tube. I like charms.

5. Oh, and it's a pretty nice gloss, too.

Of course, it's number 5 that's the most important part. I tried this in "millionaire" (the colour shown in the picture), which I was convinced would be way too pink for me, but which actually goes on more or less translucent. The gloss smells delicious, with a little bit of vanilla, and it also contains Jojoba oil, so it won't dry your lips out, either, but will just make them nice and shiny (and rather tasty smelling, too). I like.

Buy: Flash Lips lipgloss, £7.99

Dollface Reviews: The Body Shop's Peppermint Cooling Foot Lotion

Footlotion The Scent of The Body Shop's ® Peppermint Cooling Foot Lotion takes me right back to my youth... I've been using this stuff for years, and when I was a teenager, used to end every shopping trip to the city with a visit to The Body Shop®, to pick up a bottle of this (plus some other goodies, of course).

As the name suggests, this is a great product to apply to hot, tired, shopped-out feet. The scent of the peppermint oil alone is enough to revive your tired feet (and spirits) and it also contains cocoa butter, plus almond and grape seed oil, to give them back some moisture, too.

The formula has changed slightly since I was a kid, and it's now being billed as the "new, improved formula" although I don't notice any huge difference. It's £8 for a 250ml bottle, and is also available as a foot scrub, spray and mask.

Remember! If it's your first online purchase from The Body Shop, you can save 10% by entering coupon code DHAD000857 at checkout.

Dollface Reviews: 'Rehab' shampoo by Lush

Rehab "They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, no, no, no...!" Oh, come on - you know that song's stuck in your head now, too! Actually, Amy Wineshouse's 'Rehab' gets stuck in my head every single morning now, when I wash my hair with Lush's shampoo of the same name. This is the downside of this product. Luckily, though, there is an upside, too...

I bought Rehab because, to put it bluntly, my hair is in a real mess at the moment: coarse, dry, damaged - in fact, I've been tempted to just get it all chopped off, that's how much it's annoying me at the moment. Rehab is designed to cure all that. It will, says the Lush website, "turn dull, weary hair into a calm, refreshed mane." "I'll have some of that, then," I thought...

Dollface Reviews: Nirvana Spa's Orange Smoothie Shower and Bath Gel

Ornagesmoothie If it seems like I've been doing a lot of talking about bath and body products lately well, yes, guilty as charged. The thing is, we recently revamped the bathroom here at Dollface Towers, and now that it's all sparkling and fresh (and, to be honest, feels a little bit like a bathroom in a hotel or something) I've been motivated to spend a lot more time in it - and, of course, to buy up lots of lovely bath products! Well, they look nice sitting on the shelves, even it will take me months to get round to using them all...

Anyway, one such product purchased purely to help me make the most of my new bathroom was Nirvana Spa's Orange Smoothie Shower and Bath Gel. It's pictured here with the matching body scrub, which I haven't tried, but probably will because this stuff is seriously orangey.

My main reason for choosing a fruit scented shower gel was that I was hoping the citrus smell would help wake me up in the morning. This certainly does that, and leaves the bathroom smelling or oranges for a long time afterwards, too. The liquid itself is nice and thick - you only need a small amount of it to do your whole body, and while it doesn't give much of a lather, when used as a bubble bath, it does build up some satisfyingly big and frothy bubbles, which stick around for as long as you do, rather than just melting instantly, like some cheaper brands.

I bought this from Asda, but you can also buy it from Nirvana Spa's website
