Category Archives: Celebrity BeautyThe secret of Kylie Minogue’s youthful looks? Pond’s Cold Cream!I’d imagine the people at Pond’s are feeling pretty happy around about now: their sales have apparently risen by 120% since Kylie Minogue announced she’s given up Botox and is now relying on Ponds Cold Cream to keep her skin looking its best! The “Kylie Effect”, as they’re calling it, came after the singer spoke about the difference the cream has made: “It’s really changed my skin,’ she said. ‘It’s all I really use to look after my skin. It’s such an old classic. My mum uses it and it really does work. It’s made such a difference.” Kylie also said she’s stopped using Botox, and would never have plastic surgery, as she wants to “embrace the wrinkles”. Is Pond’s really that good, though? I used the brand briefly in my teens, lured in by the low price (A jar costs just £3.99 at Boots) and what seems to me at the time to be the old-fashioned glamour of using “cold cream”, which I’d heard my mum and grandmother talking about, and which seemed very grown up to my much younger self! I don’t remember noticing a dramatic difference in my skin, but then again, I was only thirteen or fourteen at the time, so lines and wrinkles were the very least of my worries. Do you use Pond’s? Will you be joining the women who’ve rushed out and bought it in the wake of Kylie’s amazing PR job for the brand? The jury’s still out for me, but I must admit, it’s nice to hear a celebrity reveal that she swears by a product that’s accessible to the rest of us, rather than the usual caviar-and-unicorn-hair creams they normally seem to use, which cost more than I spend on shoes in a month! Celebrity Beauty: Jennifer Lopez wears a beehive to the premiere of The Back Up PlanEver since my experiment with the Bumpit, I’ve been obsessed with big hair and beehives, so I was interested to see Jennifer Lopez turn up to the London premiere of The Back Up Plan last night with her hair in a massive ‘hive. Although the dress and hair were competing for attention a little bit here, I do love this hairdo, and there’s a little part of me (OK, let’s be honest: it’s quite a big part of me) that wishes this kind of style would make a full-scale return to popularity, and it would suddenly become totally acceptable to walk around with a giant head of hair, even if you were just going to the supermarket or office. Of course, I suspect I’m far too lazy to want to go to this amount of effort every day (and wow, but getting all that backcoming out would be a PAIN, wouldn’t it? Unless, of course, J.Lo’s wearing a false hairpiece here, which she very well may be.), so my big-hair dreams will probably never come true, but what does everyone else think? Do you love this look? Celebrity Beauty: Nicole Richie at the 2010 OscarsOne of my favourite looks from the 2010 Oscars so far: Nicole Richie always looks effortlessly stylish, and her high-necked gown, up-do and flicked-out eyeliner gave her a bit of a retro look which really suits her. What do you think? (See her dress here.) Celebrity Beauty: Deborah Ann Woll at the 2010 OscarsI love to see my fellow redheads on the red carpet, although I must admit, it’s not often I look at ANY celebrity on the red carpet and think how easily I could replicate their hair and makeup! True Blood star Deborah Ann Woll, however, went for a super-simple look at this year’s Oscars, with her hair pulled back into a low pony tail, and her makeup fairly neutral, other than the red lipstick. Simple, but stunning. Celebrity Beauty: Kelly Brook at the 2010 OscarsI really love this photo of Kelly Brook heading off to the 2010 Oscars: doesn’t she look beautiful? I’ll have lots more celebrity beauty shots from the ceremony for you soon, but in the meantime, head over to The Fashion Police to see what the stars are wearing on one of the biggest nights of the year! Paloma Faith’s makeup at the Cervical Cancer Charity ConcertAhem! Looks like I have some competition in the “Dollface” stakes, in the shape of UK singer Paloma Faith, who seems to have taken the word “dollface” literally for her appearance at the Cervical Cancer Charity in London last night. Paloma isn’t really one to play it safe, either with what she wears, or with what she chooses to put on her face as this look proves: she’s gone for a “tear” effect on the eyes, and what I think of as “Aunt Sally blusher”, worn with false eyelashes, red lipsticks and heavy brows. She’s as pretty as always, but what do you think of this look? Delightfully different or just a little bit too much? Celebrity Beauty: Ashley Olsen in black lipstick atThe Art of Elysium’s 3rd Annual Black Tie Charity GalaOK, so this lipstick isn’t totally “black”: I’d say it’s black blended with red, for a very gothic look, which Ashley Olsen really played up at the Art of Elysium’s 3rd Annual Black Tie Charity Gala, in a dress which was very “corpse bride”, especially when combined with the dark lips and dishevelled hair do. Dark lipstick keeps popping up on the red carpet this season: what do you think of it on Ashley Olsen here? Beauty Looks from The People’s Choice Awards
Most people seemed to favour a very natural look for this event, which meant that Nicole Scherzinger (above) was one of the few women who went for a bold makeup look. Anywhere else, this heavy eye-makeup would’ve looked totally overdone, and some of you may feel it STILL looks totally overdone, but she IS on the red carpet, and I think she’s getting away with the look. Leighton Meester’s makeup at the American Eagle opening: what do you think?![]() Leighton Meester at the American Eagle store opening Do you subscribe to the old “lips OR eyes” look, readers? Leighton Meester’s makeup artist obviously doesn’t: here’s Leighton looking almost unrecognisable at the opening of American Eagle’s new Times Square store in heavy eye makeup, heavy foundation, and bright red lipstick. On their own, I think any one of these would’ve worked just fine. All together, though… well, I love Leighton, but I’m not really loving this particular look on her, it has to be said.
