Category Archives: Drugstore BeautyFriday Face: Beauty on a BudgetJust for fun, I thought I’d make today’s Friday Face a budget production, so all of the products I’ve used are available from your local supermarket or chemist rather than from specialist beauty counters, and most are under £5, although I think the lipstick I used is closer to the £10 mark, making it the most expensive product of the lot. Next week I’ll try out these products’ high-end sisters, but for today’s face, take a look under the jump for the product details!

Budget Beauty: Bourjois Illuminating Gel
This is applied to the same places as any other illuminator (cheekbones for me, decollete and shoulders for you, if you’re so inclined), but I’m intrigued by the gel formula, which sounds rather different from all of the cream illuminators I’ve known and loved in the past. This also promises to give you a "sun kissed glow" rather than the usual "dewy complexion", and is sold as a "tan enhancer" in some places, however that’s slightly misleading as the gel is transparent and doesn’t add colour, just "glow". Still sounds like it could be a good holiday buy, though… Buy: Bourjois Illuminating Gel, £6.95

Dollface Reviews: Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation
This is called Lasting Finish for a reason: its a foundation that gives good, fairly thick coverage and the claim is that it will stay put for at least eight hours. Actually, it lasts for longer than that, which is a very good thing because personally I don’t think eight hours is a particularly long time, and I’d expect my foundation to stay put for longer than that.

Dollface Reviews: Rimmel Hide the Blemish concealer
1. It’s cheap – just £3.69 per tube. 2. Despite this, it does exactly what it says on the tube: hides the blemishes. HTB is fantastic at covering spots and other flaws. The coverage is thick, but not flaky, and it tends to be the product I reach for every time a pimple rears its ugly head. What it’s NOT so good at, however, is other acts of concealment. I find it too thick to use on the dark circles around my eyes, for instance, and will use a highlighter like Touche Eclat or Benefit’s Boi-ing instead. 3. It lasts forever. While it’s not the same tube of concealer that’s been in my makeup bag for the past fifteen years, now I come to think of it, I can’t remember the last time I had to replace the tube I have at the moment. Time for a new one, perhaps? Score: 4/5 for blemish concealment Bourjois Complexion Enhancer gives your skin a healthy glow
This is Bourgois’ complexion enhancer, which goes by the catchy name of "Complexion Enhancer. That said, it promises to give a "radiant and healthy glow", and that sounds just fine by me. This sounds like a less expensive version of something like Benefit’s High Beam – maybe a little more like the increasingly hard to find Revlon Skinlights. As with those two products, the application is exactly the same – just add a little to your cheekbones, or any other place you want to highlight, and you’re done. It’s £6.95, so it’s reasonably priced. Anyone tried it?
