Category Archives: Gift & Travel SetsMake Up For Ever ‘Rock For Ever Dany’s Essentials’ kitYup, it’s another huge makeup kit: well, if a girl can’t dream about owning one of these at Christmas, when can she? At $597, dreaming’s ALL I’ll be doing about this, obviously, but in its defence, it does contain 28 full-sized products, plus the train case itself, so if you’re a Make Up For Ever fan, this could be worth saving up for. There are far too many products for me to list here, but you’ll find a full list at Sephora, where you can also buy this online. Bobbi Brown Exclusive Deluxe Beauty TrunkEvery year at this time, I look forward with much excitement to the arrival of Bobbi Brown’s annual deluxe beauty trunk. Not the literal arrival, you understand: that’s an “only in my dreams” kind of thing, and I don’t think I’ve been nearly good enough this year to expect something like this under the tree. I do enjoy admiring it from afar, though, and imagining the sheer joy of unpacking such a treasure-trove of beauty products from one of my favourite brands. This year’s trunk is black and shiny, with an opulent red interior: Inside, meanwhile, you’ll find this little lot:
The downside, of course, is that it costs $1,000, which is why it’s destined never to be mine. If it IS destined to be yours, though, you can click here to buy it. Smashbox ‘Wish for a Flawless Complexion’ Set
You can always tell we’ve turned the corner of the year and are heading down the hill towards Christmas when all of the beauty gift sets start showing up in the stores. Not that I’m complaining, mind you: while these undoubtedly make great gifts in their own right, they’re also often a nice way to try out some of the products you’ve had your eye on but don’t want to risk paying full price for in case they don’t work out. This little Smashbox set is a case in point. The Photo Finish Primer needs no introduction, and has well and truly earned its place on my Holy Grail list, but the other two products are ones I haven’t yet tried. Both come from the ‘Photo Finish’ family (which leads me to suspect there probably wouldn’t be too much of a risk involved in a full-price purchase): they’re the Targeted Pore and Line Primer and Line Primer, and the three of these together will set you back $39.99, which doesn’t seem like too much to pay, if, indeed, they do give you the “flawless complexion” promised in the title? Want to find out for yourself? Click here to order this from Nordstrom. Beauty Society ‘Enormous Lashes & Fabulous Brows’ Holiday Collection
Well, you can see why THIS little set appeals to me, can’t you? If it has the words “lashes” or “brows” in its name, I’m almost guaranteed to want it, and if the word “enormous” is also present, you can definitely count me in. (Er, only if the “enormous” is a reference to the lashes, not the brows, though. Enormous brows aren’t quite so much of a draw, somehow.) This set is by Beauty Society, and would make a particularly generous gift (ahem!) because all of the products are full-sized. As well as their Enormous Lash Enhancing Serum (I’ve yet to encounter one of these that has actually worked, but I live in hope), you also get a tube of Enormous Mascara, Draw the Line eyeliner and Brow Doctor Eyebrow Enhancing Gel. All of these products claim to enhance eyelash growth, using a mix of peptides and conditioners: I haven’t tried any of them myself, and as I said, I tend to be a little skeptical of these claims, but if you want to try them out for yourself, a set like this offers an excellent opportunity to do it. This is £61.72 at Nordstrom. Christmas Beauty Gifts: Liz Earle gift box with face and body essentials
Bobbi Brown Exclusive Black Plum Beauty Trunk
OK, so it costs $1,000. There is that. But let’s just imagine for a moment that Father Christmas shops at Neiman Marcus, and money is no object. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to wake up on Christmas morning to this much makeup, all presented in a fabulous case? Imagine the fun you’d have going through it all and trying it on! I’m not going to list everything you get with this, but you can read the full details at the Neiman Marcus website, and order it too, if you happen to have a spare $1,o00 you don’t know what to do with. Girls Aloud false lashes gift set from Eylure
This is £25, and contains a full set of the Girls Aloud false eyelashes which Eylure brought out earlier this year. I’ve tried all of these now, and I absolutely love them: I think the only problem most people will have with them is deciding which ones to go for and this gets around that “problem” very nicely, no? The set comes with a black patent purse and presentation box. Normally boxed beauty sets don’t quite hit the mark for me, because they tend to contain miniature versions of the product, or items I know I won’t use, but this one is a set I think would go down really well for a beauty addict. It’s not available just yet (boo!) but look out for it within the next week or so at Boots – it’s exclusive to them.

Illamasqua Sirens gift set
This contains five products: The Liquid Metal cream looks luscious - look at that golden glow! – but I think the false eyelashes look even better:
Isn’t that a fabulous shape? All of the products are available to buy sepparately, of course, but if you want to sample them all together, the Sirens set is £59 at Debenhams. Philosophy ‘I Think You Are Wonderful’ gift set
For every occasion, there is a corresponding Philosophy gift set. Isn't that brilliant? Seriously, I bet there's a "Sorry It's Tuesday And Your Muscles Really Hurt After Your Body Combat Class!" set from Philosophy somewhere, and if anyone would like to send me that one, well, that would be just fine. Actually, though, this particular set is one that you'd give for no particular reason, just to make someone feel a little bit happier and let them know you think they're wonderful. I think that's pretty wonderful, too. It contains Philosphy's ubiquitous 3-in-one shampoo/shower/bubble lotion – this one has a mandarin orange and cherry scent – and it'll cost you $24. Which really isn't TOO much to make someone feel wonderful, is it? BUY: Philosophy I Think You Are Wonderful set, $24 Dad Gift: Father’s Day gift from Lush
I always think men are so much harder to shop for than women. Let's face it, with a woman you can always fall back on a good ol' beauty gift set (I like Philosophy for this, personally, but there's no shortage of them, is there?) and know that it'll probably get some use at least, but men always seem to end up with rubbish stuff like socks. (Not that there's anything wrong with socks, obviously, but as a gift? Socks? Not the most exciting thing ever, are they?) Anyway, Lush, bless them, have done their best to make Father's Day as easy for us as Mother's Day is, by producing this 'Dad Gift', which contains Happy Hippie grapefruit shower gel, New Shampoo bar and Ice Blue soap which – get this – is shaped like a robot, especially for the Dad Gift:
Now, I have to be honest and say that my dad probably wouldn't be blown away by a Lush gift set. Mr Dollface, on the other hand, would love it, but that's too bad, because he's not a dad. What about you? Do you buy beauty gifts for the men in your life? If you do, this is £9.95 from Lush.
