Alberto V05 Moisture Milks Shampoo in Strawberries and Cream

Vo5_moisture_milks I bought this shampoo while I was on holiday in the States earlier this year, and I have to be honest, I picked it up purely because it happened to be the cheapest shampoo in the store at the time.

I actually ended up buying two bottles by mistake (I thought I was buying a shampoo and conditioner, but picked up two shampoos by mistake - doh!) so I brought the second bottle home with me and promptly forgot all about it, until this week, when my regular shampoo ran out and I dug this one out of hiding.

When I did, I wished I had bought a couple more bottles. This is seriously one of the best smelling shampoos I've tried. The scent is strawberries and cream, and it's so sweet and delicious smelling that it makes my mouth water. It also makes the bathroom smell nice, which is an added bonus.

As for its cleaning properties, well, it does the job, leaving my hair clean, soft and above all, smelling like strawberries and cream. Not bad for $1.99.

Buy : V05 Moisture Milks Strawberries and Cream shampoo, $1.99

Bo & Go: a salon style blow-dry in your own home?

Blogo I'm sure everyone reading this probably knows the difference a professional blow-dry can make to your hair. And I'm equally sure you've probably all shared my frustration over the fact that, no matter how hard you try, you can never seem to recreate that perfect blow-dry at home.

The problem comes from having to constantly hold the hairdryer in one hand and the brush in the other. And from the fact that you can't see the back of your own head - or properly blow-dry it, without snapping your arms in the process.

Toppik Hair Building Fibers, The 30 Second "hair transplant"

Hair_transplant We're all familiar with lash-lengthening mascaras, like Imju Fiberwig, which work by adding tiny little fibres to your existing lashes, right?

Well, what if there was a similar product for the hair on your head?

There is, you know. It's Toppik Hair Building Fibers, and while it doesn't claim to lengthen your hair, like Fiberwig, it does sell itself as a "hair transplant" in a bottle - a product that leaves you with thicker, healthier looking hair in just a few seconds. It's actually marketed at people suffering hair loss, but I'm wondering if it might also be useful purely as a beauty aid.

How does it do it? In the company's own words: "Toppik is an amazing new complex of tiny, microfiber "hairs" that perfectly blend with your hair. Toppik fibers are made of the same organic Keratin protein as your own hair. Through a unique process, these fibers are restructured to merge undetectably with your hair. You will instantly see a fuller, more natural looking head of hair than you could ever imagine."

I'm skeptical, but intriged. It costs $69.95 and is available in a range of hair colours. Get it at Amazon, if you're dealing with hair loss, or are just as curious as I am...

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Blush

Batiste_dry_shampoo I got a bit of a shock when I first glanced at this image of Batiste's Dry Shampoo because somehow the pink bottle convinced me that the product was going to come out of the can pink (and turn your hair pink) too.

Of course, it's the fragrance which is "blush", not the colour, which has to be a good thing. I've only ever tried the original version of this, so I can't comment on the scent, but I can tell you it's a great product for those days when your hair is looking a little past its best, but you don't have time to wash it. Come to think of it, I could really be doing with a new can, so maybe I'll have to try "blush" to see what it's like.

The Hairbrush Cleaner: necessary or not?

Hairbrush_cleaner

So, you know all the old hair and weird white bits of fluff (What ARE those things, anyway?) that end up stuck in your hairbrush all the time? Gross, aren't they? Well, you can either get rid of them the old fashioned way - with your hands - or you can get rid of them the shiny new way, with this hairbrush cleaner, which costs just $3.50 and comes in pink, red and green.

Do you really need a special tool to clean your hairbrush, though, Dollface wonders, or are hands just as good?

Betty: Colour for the hair 'down there'

Betty

Um. Yeah.

You know, I obsess over a lot of different aspects of my hair and beauty routines, but the colour of the hair... down there... just doesn't really occupy my thoughts. I'm guessing this is a good thing. If you've ever had a burning desire (and I'm really hoping "burning" isn't the operative word here...) to be blonde all over - or black, or brown or red, of course - then Betty is the product you need. It'll cover grey hair, or just allow you to match the colour of the dyed hair on your head, and it comes in a range of colours including everything from regular old blonde and brunette to hot pink and, er, blue. The blue is for brides. OF COURSE.

You can buy Betty here, but I'm curious to know whether this is something you do/would consider doing, so remember to come back and tell me!

Toni & Guy Finishing Spray voted No. 1 by How to Look Good Naked

Toni_and_guy_finsihing_spra

I'm not so much a "wash and go" girl as a "wash, condition, blow dry and run the straighteners through and go" girl, but even I'm starting to realise that adding an extra step into my hair routine may not be such a hardship - and could actually help undo some of the damage done by all that heat.

Well, Gok Wan to the rescue... For those who don't watch How to Look Good Naked, Gok Wan is the fashion consultant who runs the show, and on last week's show his 'Naked Army' of testers voted Toni&Guy's Finishing Shine Spray the best shine spray on the market. It polled 66% of the vote, and since the show aired, Boots have seen a huge increase in sales. That's not so say it works, of course - just that a TV show has created a bit of a frezy for it - so I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's actually used this.

Accoridng to the PR company, "Shine Spray not only imparts a healthy shine, but it also helps to control static, refresh and illuminate dull hair." So, does it? Pop over to Boots.com to find out...

Buy: Tony & Guy Finishing Shine Spray, £6.99

ghd Miracle Mist Daily Conditioning Spray

Ghd My hair is currently at one of those awkward, in-between haircuts stage, which means that, in order to make it look even vaguely presentable, rather than simply washing and blow-drying every morning I've been having to straighten my hair, too. It's certainly made it all hang better, but it hasn't done a whole lot for the condition of my hair, which is why this Daily Conditioning Spray by ghd caught my eye.

It's called Miracle Mist, and it's a leave-in conditioner for fine to normal hair which apparently "creates the perfect base for heat styling", while leaving your hair strong, shiny and static free. Sounds good to me, but am I willing to pay £11 for it, I wonder?

Girls With Attitude Instant Dry Shampoo

Dry_shampoo For the last few years, a can of Batiste Dry Shampoo has resided in my bathroom cabinet. From this, you can probably tell that dry shampoo isn't something I tend to use often, but I do use it occasionally, and for this reason, I think it's a handy thing to have, for those mornings when you wake up late and don't have time to wash your hair.

I wouldn't recommend keeping the same dry shampoo for years on end, though, obviously, and because I like to try different products when I can, I'm thinking the next one I buy may be this one by Girls With Attitude, which is £3 per can from ASOS and promises to absorb grease and oil.

Also very handy for camping trips, summer festivals, or anywhere else that doesn't have a built-in shower and power source for your hairdryer!

DuWop Hands 2 Hair - hand and styling cream in one

Habds_2_hair When I think of all the times I've lathered on the old hand cream and then run my fingers through my hair, instantly making it look like I haven't washed it in a week, I can't help but think this product is a little piece of genius.

It's DuWop's Hands 2 Hair, and it's a hand cream that doubles as ... yes, you've guessed it - a hair styling product. Now isn't that clever? As a hair product, it's apparently best for helping tame frizzy hair, the hand cream will nourish your hands (obviously), and this little multi-tasker will be great for travel or keeping in your desk. I say it again: genius.

Dollface Reviews: Redken 'All Soft' shampoo

Redken_shampoo As always, I was skeptical about reviewing a new shampoo, because, as I've mentioned here before, I rarely notice much of a difference between them. I swear I have some kind of shampoo dyslexia or something.

Not this time, though. Redken's All Soft, as the name suggests, is supposed to leave your hair feeling... well, soft.  And guess what? It does!

A small blob of this is enough to work up a pretty good lather, and although the first time I used it I felt that my hair was left feeling a little limp, subsequent uses have changed that opinion, and I'm now finding my hair to be softer, and easier to manage than it has been of late. It's formulated for very dry/brittle hair, which mine certainly is at the moment, and it nourishes as well as cleaning, so it's not as harsh as some shampoos.

This is a very moisturizing formula. I haven't yet tried it without a conditioner for afters, purely because I have a conditioner habit that makes me slick the stuff on in the shower without even thinking about it, but I actually think this shampoo could be enough on its own, and I'll be trying that out shortly.

Redken isn't the cheapest shampoo in the world, and it'll cost you about £9 in the UK, but so far I've been liking it enough to find it worth the money. Anyone else use this?

Buy: Redken All Soft shampoo

Fekkai All-Day Hair Plump - for high-end hair

Hair_plump I'm all for anything that promises to make my limp, fine hair look "plump", but at $95 per bottle, I'm really going to have to know that it works before I spend my hard-earned cash on it, which is why Fekkai's All-Day Hair Plump is going to remain filed under "sounds great, but I'm starting to hyperventilate at the price" for the moment at least.

This is a daytime conditioner which you apply to wet hair and then style as normal. The premise is that it will work to keep your hair hydrated all day, as well as protecting it from styling products, weather and all of the other horrible things we put our hair through every day.

Last night, I caught sight of myself in a mirror during a trip to the supermarket, and couldn't help noticing that my hair looked like... well, straw, basically... so if there's a cheaper version of this out there somewhere I could well be tempted to try it.

Would you pay $95 for a hair conditioner? If so, get it here....

Hilary Swank gets a haircut

Hilary_swank Now, I know Hilary Swank donated her hair to Locks of Love recently, and I think that's a fabulous thing to do, but the thing is, Hilary's chin length hair, right after the donation, looked perfectly lovely, so I can't help but wonder what on earth possessed her to go for this even shorter crop? A film role, perhaps?

Well, I certainly hope she did this for a role, because as much as I love Ms Swank, I definitely don't think this a great look on her, do you?

The home perm makes a comeback

Perm When I was 12 years old, I had my hair permed. It's the only time in mt life that my hair has been anything other than long and straight, and I lay the blame squarely at the door of Kylie Minogue. It was the late 80s, you see. Kylie had just hit the big time, and the picture to the left of this post was pretty much exactly how I wanted to look. And I did - well, for the week or so it took for the perm to go kinda frizzy and droopy and to basically make me look like a lunatic fresh out of the asylum.

Never. Again.

Apparently, though, the perm is making a comeback. More specifically, home perms are making a comeback. I know, I couldn't quite believe it either. But Superdrug say that sales of home perm kits have risen by 50% in the past year and, even more worryingly, they're also reporting increased sales of electric blue mascara. Yes, the eighties are on the way back, and I for one, am scared.

That's not to say, of course, that all perms are bad. From time to time, when I get bored with my poker straight hair, that sometimes sticks out at freakish angles, I find myself toying with the idea of a very lose perm, that would just give my hair a bit of a wave without making me look like good ol' Charlene from Neighbours. Does such a perm exist? I fear not - but if it does, I somehow doubt that it's to be found in a home perm kit.

Would you perm your hair yourself? In fact, come to think of it, would you perm your hair at all?

Pink Sugar hair perfume for sweet smelling tresses

Pinjsugar Most beauty junkies know that one of the best places to apply perfume for long-lasting scent isn't the pulse points, but the hair. This is particularly true for people like me, who have long hair - when it's perfumed, the scent will stick around all day long, and every time you move your head you'll get a subtle whiff of it, which makes it a little surprising to me that there aren't a lot more dedicated hair perfumes on the market.

This one is by Pink Sugar, and is scented with vanilla and caramel. It also has UV protection, and is apparently not oily, which is good to know, because the last thing you want is to spray something onto your head that'll leave it feeling either greasy or dry.

This is $15 at Nordstrom, and should be used on dry hair.

Dollface Reviews: 'Rehab' shampoo by Lush

Rehab "They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, no, no, no...!" Oh, come on - you know that song's stuck in your head now, too! Actually, Amy Wineshouse's 'Rehab' gets stuck in my head every single morning now, when I wash my hair with Lush's shampoo of the same name. This is the downside of this product. Luckily, though, there is an upside, too...

I bought Rehab because, to put it bluntly, my hair is in a real mess at the moment: coarse, dry, damaged - in fact, I've been tempted to just get it all chopped off, that's how much it's annoying me at the moment. Rehab is designed to cure all that. It will, says the Lush website, "turn dull, weary hair into a calm, refreshed mane." "I'll have some of that, then," I thought...

Natasha Bedingfield gets a beehive

Natashabedingfield

You know, despite wanting her to ditch it not so long ago. Amy Winehouse's beehive has started to grow on me. Not literally, of course - that would just be freaky - but in an "only Amy could get away with it" kind of way. What's good for Wino isn't necessarily good for all celebrities, though, which is why I was pleased to see that the tousled beehive Natasha Bedingfield wore to the Black Eyed Peas' Peapod Foundation Benefit had been ditched in favour of a much sleeker look by the time she turned up at The Grammys this weekend.

There are beehives and there are beehives, you see. And this is one messy-as-hell beehive. I'm guessing Natasha was probably going for "sexily tousled" here, but has ended up looking more "this is what I slept in last night". What do you think?

Dollface Reviews: Bedhead by Tigi Moisture Maniac Shampoo

Tigibedheadmoisturemania I thought this review was going to be a complete no-brainer. I mean, I've read so much about Tigi's Bed Head range and how utterly fantastic it is that I thought all I had to do was lather, rinse, repeat, and I'd have me some serious shampoo-love goin' on. Sadly, it was not to be.

That's not to say that there's anything wrong with this shampoo, however, because there really isn't. It's fine. It works. It cleans your hair. It smells pleasant. The problem, then? Well, it's not so cheap - around $10 - $15, in fact - and for that amount of money, I want better than just "fine". So, sadly, I have to say that although this is a perfectly serviceable shampoo, I probably won't be buying it again.

If you want to give it a try, though, you'll find it here:

Dollface Reviews: Boots Henna & Horsechestnut Intensive Conditioner

Hairconditioner A State of Emergency was declared at Dollface Towers tonight as I discovered I'd run out of my Henna and Horsechestnut Conditioner from Boots.  Well, OK, I exaggerate - but only a little bit.  This is one of those fabulous little products that never make it onto TV, or get talked about in salons, but which are just really good at doing their jobs, for very little money.

In this case, the price is just £1.99, and the job is to deep-condition your hair. Because this product contains henna, it's best used on darker hair - there's a version with coconut that'll work with fairer shades. My hair is red, and this leaves it wonderfully soft and shiny. It's an intensive conditioner, so you're supposed to leave it in for 10 - 15 minutes for best results. Because I'm lazy, I generally only leave it on for the time it takes me to shave my legs in the shower, and it still does a fabulous job of conditioning my hair, making it well worth the £1.99 I spend on it.

Dollface Says: A fabulous, budget conditioner that doesn't give a "budget" effect.

Dollface Reviews: Hair Devils Pro Ceramic Hair Irons

Hairstraightners

Despite having the straightest of straight hair, I'm well aware of how much sleeker and polished a good pair of hair straighteners can make you look, so I was pleased to have the opportunity to try out Hair Devils' Ceramic Irons this week.

Having always assumed that good hair irons had to cost a small fortunes (GHDs, for instance, typically retail for around £120) I was really pleasantly surprised by these. They're currently selling for just £30 at Miss Groovy, and come in lots of different colours - mine are the bright, Ferrari red shown above, which I love.

As for the performance - top marks for that, too. The irons heat up fast - they're ready to use within a few seconds, but don't get so hot that you'll hurt yourself with them. (Not if you're careful, anyway). These are Tourmaline Cermamic straighteners, which are similar in shape and production to GHDs, as well as being kind to your hair. One quick sweep through was enough to straighten out the few kinks I always end up with at the front of my head after drying, but what I really love these for is their ability to create curls and flicks.

Given that hair-styling isn't my strong point, I've been walking around with more or less the same style for most of my life. Hair Devils make it very easy to change all of that, and I've been experimenting with gentle waves, and with flicking my hair under, for a much more polished look that I usually go for. This is really easy to do by just giving a quick flick of the wrist when you reach the bottom of the hair. I tried this early on Sunday morning, before going out for the day, and when I came home after midnight my hair still looked the same as it did when I set out. This is something of a miracle for my fine, hard-to-style hair, so I was impressed to say the least.

Dollface's Verdict: A great, budget hair iron that does the same job as more expensive models.

Buy: Hair Devils' Pro Ceramic Hair Iron, £30, Miss Groovy

Amy Winehouse cuts off her beehive and dyes her hair blonde

Amywinehouse

When we asked what you thought of Amy Winehouse's beehive, the vast majority of you were of the firm opinion that it was time for the singer to lose the locks. Well, I can't claim that Amy Winehouse even reads Hey-Dollface, never mind paying attention to it, but she has decided to ditch the beehive, going for a short blonde crop instead. Hooray!

It's hard to really say how flattering this look is on Amy, because she's hidden it underneath a headscarf, but they say a change is as good as a rest, and people often cut off their hair when they're making changes in their lives, so could this be a sign that Amy's turning over a new leaf for the new year? Well, probably not, to be honest, but at least it's a start.

I'm actually glad to see she's kept her trademark winged eyeliner, though: she wouldn't be Amy Winehouse without it.

What do you think of Amy's new 'do?

Do you say Yes to Carrots?

Yestocarrots

Having spent a large part of my youth being referred to as "carrot top" (it's one of those "redhead" things), you'd think I'd hate the damn things by now, but nope, I love 'em. Carrots are tasty, nutritious, and may or may not help you see in the dark, so it makes sense that a hair, skin and body range would be all those things too, doesn't it? Well, maybe not "tasty", so much...

The Yes to Carrots line doesn't just contain carrots, though. It uses juices from the orange color' produce groups plus Dead Sea Mud to create a range of products for the hair, skin and body. Mud masks, day and night moisturisers, body lotions, shampoos and conditioners all contain these essential ingredients to help make you glow - but hopefully not orange.

It's available at Walgreens.

Ojon's 5 Piece 'Try Me' Hair Ritual Kit - as used by "the people of beautiful hair", apparently.

Haircare

'Try Me' it says, like something out of Alice in Wonderland. Well, how's a beauty addict supposed to resist? Ojon's hair products are interesting because, rather than being promoted by the likes of Eva Longoria or Jennifer Aniston or someone, they're promoted by... well, actually, the Neiman Marcus website probably explains this better than I can. So, according to them, what we have here is "a complete hair restoration ritual from the native Tawira of Central America's tropical rainforest, known as 'the people of beautiful hair '".

Hmmm. The people of beautiful hair? Sounds like a marketers dream, but, assuming that these people are real, they must have fabulous hair indeed, considering that their hair ritual involves using products that protect the hair from UV damage, eliminates static, restores shine and deep conditions all hair types, even hair that's been coloured and treated. I'll have some of that, then.

The 5-piece starter kit is $45 and includes:

• Ojon® Ultra Hydrating Shampoo, 2 ounces.
• Ojon® Ultra Hydrating Conditioner, 2 ounces.
• Ojon® Revitalizing Mist, 0.85 ounces.
• Ojon® Shine & Protect Glossing Mist, 0.85 ounces

If it's good enough for The People of Beautiful Hair, it's good enough for Dollface...

Victoria Beckham gets a haircut

Victoriabeckhamhair_2 Apologies for the graininess of this picture, but it seems to be the only one around that properly shows the new hairdo Victoria Beckham got herself this week. Posh has apparently gone back to brunette in preparation for the start of the Spice Girls tour, which starts in December. Looks like she's making a bit of a return to the look that made her famous.

Personally I love this 'do on Victoria. I think the brunette bob was the classiest of her hairstyles (although I loved the recent blonde "pob" too). What does everyone else think?

Pink Limited Edition GHD Hair Straighteners With Styling Mat

Ghdpink

As I've mentioned before, I'm more of a makeup junkie than a haircare addict, which means that a hairdryer and a brush represent the sum total of my current styling product arsenal. Yes, I;m that bad...

I think I've just been converted, though. I'd always heard about how GHD hair straighteners were the best on the market, but, being a wash n' go girl, I'd never tried them out.  Last week, though, I joined a gym (or re-joined a gym, I should say) and discovered that the changing rooms were fully stocked with GHD hair irons. Well, it would have been rude not to give them a try, wouldn't it?

Well, I love them. Not being a fan of that poker-straight look some girls choose to go for when they get their hands on a pair of hair straighteners, I'd been sceptical about just how useful these would be to me. My hair is very straight anyway, but I wear it up for swimming, which means that when it comes back down? It's a mess. The GHDs heat up in seconds, straighten out the kinks in a few seconds more, and if I flick the hair under rather than just ironing it straight, give it a bit of much needed body, too. You can also use them to curl your hair, but I suspect that's something I'll want to try out in the privacy of my own home, first.

My gym has the standard-issue black irons, but I rather fancy these limited edition pink ones. At £135, they're currently a little too pricey for me, but hey, Christmas is just around the corner...

Kate Moss gets a haircut

Katemoss_2Given that she's just launched a haircare range with stylist James Brown, I guess it was only a matter of time before Kate Moss has something of a makeover on her often lank-looking locks. I love this look on her - the fringe is flattering and modern looking, and the shorter length brings her look up to date.

The stylist was, of course, James Brown, and I think he's done a pretty good job. What do you think?

Dollface Decides: Should Amy Winehouse lose the beehive?

Amywinehousebeehive

Amy Winehouse's hair terrifies me. Seriously, I have nightmares about waking up and finding that thing suddenly attached to my own head. I mean, God, imagine the hairs you'd get down the plughole! As far as I'm concerned, the beehive needs to go: it's a big ol' rat's nest of a thing (do rats live in nests? I don't know, but they'd sure live in Amy's hair if they could), and it looks dirty, messy and tangled.

Unbelievably to me, though, Ive heard quite a few people lately say they admire this 'do, so I'm putting it up for the vote. Is it time Amy lost the beehive and went for something a little bit less like something a very large cat coughed up? You tell me...

Hair Product Review: V05 Mud Miracle Intense Masque

Vo5mudmiracleWell, my conditioner-only washing experiment may not have been a success exactly, but I'm still on the hunt for something that will return my hair to its soft, shiny former glory, and this week I think I may just have found it.

I've only tried one application of VO5's Mud Miracle Intense Masque, but already I'm impressed. Despite the name, this doesn't actually look like mud (yes, I'll admit I was expecting it to be a bit brown and gooey looking), but much the same as any other deep conditioner. It has a pleasant smell, too, which is always a bonus. The tub claims that you only need to leave it on for two or three minutes, but I left it on for slightly longer, shampooing my hair as normal, then working the Mud Masque through the length of my hair and letting it soak in.

The result? Well, my hair feels softer and in better condition than it has done for a while, and I'm still liking the smell, even a few hours on. Definitely something I'll be using again, methinks.

Conditioner Only Washing Day 3 - Grease is the word!

ConditionerWell, folks, the experiment is over. Today I made the switch to Boots coconut conditioner. Now, this is actually sold as an "intensive" conditioner, so it may just be that it was a little too intensive for my poor hair : all I know is that as soon as I finished bow-drying (for yes! I actually managed to find time to blow-dry my hair today!) my hair, I went straight back to the bathroom and washed it all out again. With shampoo, this time.

To be fair, I've seen my hair look greasier. And actually, it didn't look all that greasy - but boy, did it feel it. When I ran my fingers through my hair, rather than falling back into place, the hair would just stay sticking up in the air. Yeah. This may not be the fault of the conditioner-only washing routine, of course. It could have been the type of conditioner I was using, or it could just be that I don't have the right type of hair for this to work well, but for now at least, I'm going back to shampoo. I'm sure my friends will all thank me for it.

Conditioner Only Washing Day 2

ConditionronlywashingWell, I have to admit I wasn't quite as impressed with Day 2 of my conditioner only hair washing experiment as I was with Day 1. By the time I went to bed last night my hair had started to feel a little more greasy than it would have done ordinarily, so I was slightly worried that CO-washing just wouldn't be enough for it today. I was pleasantly surprised, then, when the conditioner did manage to get the grease out: the problem I seem to be having at the moment is that my hair just doesn't seem to feel as "fresh" as it would after washing with shampoo.

This could just be a psychological thing, of course: it's not nearly as greasy as it would be if it hadn't been washed at all, and I'm not sure anyone other than me would notice any difference. It does still feel thicker, softer and less flyaway, so I'm going to be continuing with the experiment to see how it goes. Of course, I didn't blow dry again today (no time!) so perhaps that will make a difference to the way my hair looks after the CO-wash. Time will tell...

Conditioner Only Washing Day 1 - It works!

I have to confess I was really, really sceptical about this. You see, my hair needs to be washed every day. If I don't wash it every day? Oil slick city. I was pretty sure that conditioner-only washing just wouldn't be enough to get the grease out and make my hair feel clean, but guess what? It worked? My hair feels clean, it smells great, and it's softer than it would be if I'd washed with shampoo. So far.

I used: Asda's Citrus hair conditioner

Method: I rubbed the conditioner into my scalp, then applied to the the rest of the hair and left for around five minutes, while I was showering, before rinsing thoroughly and leaving it to air dry.

Result: So far, so good. There's none of the stickiness or greasiness I was expecting, and my hair feels softer and less flyaway than usual. I haven't tried blowdrying or styling it (hey, it's Sunday), but so far I'm impressed.

Dollface Investigates: Conditioner-only hair washing (CO)

Conditioneronlywashing For a while now, my hair's been an absolute mess. The roots are greasy, the scalp is flaky, the ends are dry and brittle... and I really hope you weren't eating while you were reading that. If so, sorry. (And no, that's not me in the picture, needless to say).

None of the shampoos or conditioners I've tried have done much to restore my hair to its former (sort-of) glory, but, having read a bit about conditioner-only washing recently, I've decided to give it a try. This is something I've known about for a while but haven't been quite brave enough to try, thinking it would probably just make my already-greasy roots even greasier. This week, though, I'm going to be giving it a go, and reporting back here to let you all know how I get on. Take a look after the jump to read a bit more about the experiment...

Catherine Zeta Jones uses caviar on her hair

CatherinezetajonesCatherine Zeta Jones has beautiful hair, doesn't she? And well she should have - apparently she's been having it treated with Beluga caviar to make it shine. Yes, fish eggs. The hell?

The $470 treatment also involves Catherine's hair being washed with a truffle shampoo, before being covered in the caviar and left to set. Don't worry, the fish eggs are liquefied first, so it's not too smelly. Apparently. Catherine's been having these treatments at Hari's hair salon, London, for over a year now, and loves it. It's expensive, but for your $470, you also get a complimentary glass of champagne and caviar canapes. I should think so, too...

Beauty Mistakes to Avoid: Cutting your own hair

Miu Miu Wallets Spring - Summer 2007 - CRAQUELEE HAIR BAND -

As you go through life, you start to realise that there are some things only stupid people do. Pouring bleach in their coffee. Almost choking to death on their own dinner. Wearing crocs.  To this short list, however, I would add one more item: trying to cut their own hair.

Now, I know not to cut my own hair, and specifically, not to cut my own fringe (or "bangs" if you're in America). The reason I know this? Because I have done it before. Many, many times, in fact. And it has never, ever, worked out well. My hairdresser has told me not to do it. My friends have told me not to do it. I have told myself not to do it. So, what do you think I did today, folks?

I cut my own hair.
