Before I get into the post proper, a bit of scene setting, if you will:
As you might have guessed, I’m a little enamoured with makeup. Oh, alright, make that obsessed!
And one of my biggest obsessions? MAC. Yes, I simply can not get enough of the oh-so-chic and colourful pots and palettes that the wonderful people at Makeup. Art. Cosmetics (to give it its rather threatical-sounding official title) like to provide us with in the name of beautification.
So, you see, MAC can do little wrong in my eyes.
Or so I thought until I opened up a mailshot inviting me to gaze in lust over their newest collection:
Dame Edna
Please do not adjust your monitor. You did read that correctly. Dame Edna. As in Barry Humphries’ very loud, very purple, very, er, female alter ego.
Now, the collection itself isn’t all that bad- mauve and variations thereof seems to be the dominant colour theme, as you’d expect and there’s a decent amount of products- it’s the principle of the matter.
How, I asked myself, could MAC go from sultry siren Dita Von Teese to this? What next? MAC presents Lily Savage?
And, don’t even get me started on the packaging. No, really, don’t.
I can safely say that I shall be going cold turkey (Possum?) on this latest offering. But, if you’re a braver woman (or man) than I, you can take a look at the collection in its entirety over on the MAC website.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Someone hold me. The Christmas collections are coming out, folks. Christmas. Collections. Now, this depresses the hell out of me, because I’m one of those annoying, Scrooge-like creatures who really wishes Christmas could just be confined to December – actually, I’m still shopping for a winter sunshine break so I can have an excuse to put it off for even longer, if I can.
However, I know some of you have already started to do your holiday shopping, and God knows, many of the cosmetics companies have started to get their holiday collections ready. One of the first off the mark is Elemis, with this Revealing Beauty Christmas Collection which contains:
Full Size Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Facial Wash 200ml Special Size Liquid Layer SPF 30 15ml Special Size Pro-Collagen Marine Cream 30ml Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Serum 10ml Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Night Cream 15ml
This is just one of the gift collections Elemis are doing this year, so rather than me listing them all (yes, I’m lazy), the Elemis website is your best source of all the news.

Shimmery pinks and brown are the focus of Bobbi Brown’s Pink Quartz holiday collection, and very lovely it all looks, too. There are six different pieces to collect, and the gorgeous Shimmer Brick has gone right onto Dollface’s Christmas wish – although I wouldn’t say no to any of the rest of this collection, either. It consists of:

OK, so it’s not quite as nice to look at as the Holiday Bright Lip Gloss Pendant which is also part of Dior’s 2007 holiday collection, but this is still a nice gift for a Dior fan – and given that it contains a miniature version of their Diorshow mascara in black, it could be a good buy for you, too, if you’d like to try the famous mascara but don’t want to commit to buying the full sized tube.
As well as the mascara, there’s also a mini lip gloss in shade 133, six eyeshadows, one Terra Bella, one blush, three applicators and a partridge in a pear tree that cute little carrying case, all for £45.

Chanel’s Le Vernis nail polish requires no introduction, but meet ‘Dazzling’ and ‘Delice’ – two new colours launched as part of Chanel’s Holiday Collection 2007. I’m particularly keen on ‘Dazzling’, which is a true red, the kind of colour you see on Hollywood movie stars circa 1947.
‘Delice’ meanwhile, is a soft, shimmery pink, and given that bright red and soft pink are the mainstays of my nail polish collection, I reckon Chanel done good with these.

M.A.C. has certainly gone very majestic on us this holiday season, and, this Curiositease set continues in that tradition, with the pigments and glitter in this collection presented inside a crown-embossed cylinder. This set contains Helium, Softwash Grey, Naval Blue and Forest Green Pigments, and Reflects Blue
Glitter, and is the "cool" colour palette. The "warm" palette, containing brown and gold pigments, is the same price, at $29.50.

Lots of lovely holiday goodies from Chanel to look at over the next few days, kicking off with this gorgeous 4 Camelias de Chanel lipstick palette. Now, I’ve been a big fan of Chanel’s lip palettes ever since I blew what was probably a week’s grocery budget on one as a student, so my mouth is already watering at the sight of this. You get four cream lip colours – rose, sheer rose, lustrous white and plum – and the only problem I can see with it is that they look so pretty sitting there with their cute floral designs that I’d probably have the problem I mentioned with the new Coach lipstick earlier today – who’d have the heart to stick a lip brush into those pretty little camelias?
