Happy Easter from Dollface!

happy easter Happy Easter from Dollface!

As it’s a public holiday today and Monday, I’m taking the opportunity to have a long weekend, re-charge my batteries, and hopefully reduce those dark circles under the eyes a little. And shop, obviously. I’ll be back on Tuesday: until then, I hope you have a wonderful Easter, whatever you’re doing!

Bobbi Brown’s new Makeup Facelift collection

bobbi brown facelift Bobbi Browns new Makeup Facelift collection

Makeup that makes you look like you’ve had a facelift? Sold, to the Dollface whose birthday is coming up quicker than she’d like, and whose can’t afford Botox…

Bobbi Brown’s latest collection contains everything you need to make you look like you just had a solid 12-hours worth of sleep, aparently. OK, so that’s not quite the same thing as a “facelift”, but it sounds pretty darn good to me anyway, and as well as the cosmetics shown above, there’s also a new eye cream

Extra Eye Repair Cream – £35
Designed to target wrinkles, dark circles and puff iness, this can be used both morning and night.

Tinted Eye Brightener – £22
Bobbi’s Tinted Eye Brightener, now in a portable pen format, and available in 8 different shades.

New Brow Pencils – £13.50
Creamy pencils in five shades, each with their own sharpner.

Brightening Lip Gloss – £14
Introducing two new shades of Brightening Lip Gloss, the sheer, reflective formula wakes up your face and helps create the illusion of fuller lips.

These are all available now from Bobbi Brown.

Pre-Holiday Product Haul

pre holiday beauty haul Pre Holiday Product Haul

Well, as I’ve mentioned a couple of times (or three, or four…) I’m off to the Canary Islands on Monday, to try to grab a quick bit of sunshine before Christmas! Before I go, though, I thought I’d show you the little product haul I brought home with me today: these are the products I always find myself buying right before a holiday (plus a couple of sunscreens I’ve been meaning to write about for a while), and they are…

1. Dylash 45 Day Mascara by Eyelure

I’ve always thought the word “mascara” in this product’s name was a little bit misleading, because it’s an eyelash dye, not a mascara, so it won’t do any curling, thickening or lengthening. It will turn pale lashes (and brows) dark, though, and when your lashes are as pale as mine, that’s always a good thing! I’ll still be using my trusty mascara, of course, but for those days when I’m just headed to the beach or pool, I’ll be really glad to have dyed my lashes/brows with this!  (My tutorial explaining how to use it is here, in case you’re interested!)

2. Lash Extend Ultra Natural Eyelash Extensions

Can you tell I spend  lot of time thinking about eyelashes? They’re the thing that makes the biggest difference to my appearance, and while most of the year I’m obsessed with mascara, when I’m on holiday I sometimes like to be able to go without sometimes (although not often, it has to be said), so before I go, I’ll normally stick on some of these. They’re individual false eyelashes and they claim to last up to four weeks. I’ve found 5 – 7 days to be more realistic, but at least they get me through an early morning flight without forcing me to get up even earlier and apply makeup! (Tutorial on these here.)

3. Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover

Um, yeah. This is the last eye-related product, I promise! I’ve written about this a lot, so all I’ll say is that I never go on holiday without it. Love it.

4. John Frieda Luminous Colour Glaze in Radiant Red

Since I first wrote about this, I’ve re-purchased it several times (and have also got better at applying it, so no more of the streakiness I mentioned in my first review!). I like to use it before vacations, not only because it’s a really excellent conditioner, and always leaves my hair super-soft, but because it makes my hair look really shiny and healthy.

And now for the sunscreens! These aren’t the only ones I’ll be taking with me (I have very fair skin, so I get through a LOT of sunscreen), but the ones I’m currently liking best:

5. Coppertone Kids SPF 50 Continuous Clear Spray

Yeah, it’s for kids. No, I don’t care. I’ve only ever bought this in States, so I’m not sure if it’s available in the UK – I do know I haven’t seen it here, and that most high SPF sunscreens here tend to be of the thick and gloopy variety, which I hate. I love this one because it’s clear, it dries instantly, and the nozzle makes it super-easy to apply. I got through two bottles of this in Florida this summer without a hint of sunburn, and brought this one back with me. Its only disadvantage is that it doesn’t tend to last long – or not on me, anyway (I suspect the spray leads to a lot of wastage), so as a backup, I have….

6. Clinique Sun-Care Body Spray, SPF 30

I first bought this on impulse. I was on my way to a christening and had convinced myself the sunscreen I’d brought with me (Which was of the white, gloopy variety – this was before Coppertone Kids came into my life, obviously!) would stain my dress, and would look too greasy for a formal event. I was probably right, too. Clinique’s was the only clear spray available at the airport, so I bought it, and liked it so much that I’ve re-purchased it a couple of times since. It’s SPF 30, so I use it on duller days, but as with the Coppertone, it goes on easily, dries in quickly and doesn’t stain clothes. It’s also available at almost every airport I’ve ever been to, which is probably why I continue to buy it, despite the fact that I’m sure there are lots of other products that are just as good!

So, there you have it: not all of my holiday products by a long shot, but today’s haul, plus a couple of extras. I’ll be packing tomorrow, so probably won’t have a chance to blog again before I go. Hope everyone has a good couple of weeks, and I’ll see you when I get back! (Well, not literally, of course, but you know what I mean…)

(P.S. Forgot to mention – all of the products above, with the exception of the sunscreens, came from Boots.)

Smashbox Cosmetics now available in the UK at Debenhams

smashbox cosmetics Smashbox Cosmetics now available in the UK at Debenhams

Good news for my fellow UK-based Smashbox Cosmetics fans! The brand has traditionally been a little hard to get hold of over here, with eBay often being the only place to buy some of the pieces. This month, however, Debenhams have come to the rescue: they’re now the exclusive UK stockists of Smashbox, and you’ll find everything from the fabulous Photo Finish Foundation Primer to O-Glow blush, and everything in between. Best news I’ve had all day.

Find the Smashbox section here.

Important Message about Hey, Dollface! and Heart Internet web hosting

Hi everyone,

First of all, huge apologies for the fact that the site has been down all day today.

Secondly, you’ll probably notice that now that it’s back, it’s displaying posts from September. This is because at about 2pm today our web hosts, Heart Internet, contacted us to say that while they were working on our server they had managed to irretrievably lose the entire site  – and all the rest of our websites – and that there was absolutely nothing they could do to recover it. Essentially, they told us Hey, Dollface! (and, indeed, all of our other sites) was gone for good.

Yes.

As you can see, that turned out not to be true and they have managed to restore most of the site. We have, however, lost just over a month’s worth of posts, and the posts we do have don’t currently have images. We have our own backup of those posts, but it will take us several days to get them back online, and unfortunately there won’t be any posts here on Monday because it’s going to take us at least until then to deal with the considerable fallout from this fiasco.

We also currently have issues with comments, which aren’t working, and … oh, about a thousand other things which are being worked on right now.

We’re really sorry for the interruption in transmission, and hope you’ll bear with us for a couple of days until we can get back on our feet.

Anastasia Line Erasing Try Me Kit

anastasia line erasing kit Anastasia Line Erasing Try Me KitAs regular readers will know, I’m a big fan of Anastasia’s brow products and mascara (and I don’t confer fandom on a mascara lightly, either), so I’d recommend this little kit on the grounds that it contains sample sizes of those products alone. As well as mini versions of the Lash Lifting Mascara, Perfect Brow Pencil in Ultimate Brown and Matte Highlighter in Camille, however, this kit also contains a product I haven’t tried: Anastasia’s Line Erasing Serum. Here’s what they have to say about it:

“With Instalift™ Goji and an exclusive Balkan Botanical TM Infusion, this serum is able to combat fine lines and wrinkles, dark circles, puffiness, dryness, and crow’s feet.”

Well hell, that would be a small miracle if it did all that! And it would justify the $40 price all by itself, too! As far as the price goes, however, this is $69 of products for the aforementioned $40, and I know I’d at least use the eye and brow products, so I think it’s a good deal. If you do too, you can pick it up at www.sephora.com Anastasia Line Erasing Try Me Kit.

Benefit release BADGal Brown mascara – plus free shipping

benefit badgal brown Benefit release BADGal Brown mascara plus free shippingFor years and years and years of my life, I only ever wore brown mascara. It can be a really good choice for redheads like me -or, indeed, anyone with very pale colouring/see-through lashes – because it thickens and emphasises the lashes, but in a much more natural way than traditional black will.

These days, of course, “natural” isn’t really something I’m after when it comes to my eyelashes, so it’s black all the way, but for those of you who do prefer the natural look, I thought you might like to know that Benefit’s BADgal is now available in brown, and they’re also currently offering free US shipping with the code MILEHIGH.

I wasn’t all that impressed with BADgal when I reviewed it this summer, but I know it has lots of fans, so if you’re among them and you want to try out this new brown version, you can buy it here.

Egyptian Magic – the beauty product that does (almost) everything

egyptian magic Egyptian Magic the beauty product that does (almost) everythingAs I write this, the desk drawer to my left is chock full of different lotions and potions: there’s lip balm (more than one), hand cream, dry skin cream, cuticle cream… And those aren’t there because they’re waiting to be reviewed, either – those are just the products I use on a daily (or near-daily) basis.

Enter Egyptian Magic, the balm that looks and sounds a bit like one of those things you’d buy from an infomercial, but which claims to be able to clear out my desk drawer by replacing all of those potions. It can be used as:

  • moisturiser
  • a spot treatment
  • makeup remover
  • hair pomade or treatment
  • a sunburn soother
  • cuticle cream
  • eye cream
  • lip balm
  • I could go on here, but I’m sure you’re starting to get the picture, no?

Here’s the kicker, though: apparently Madonna uses it. So they say, anyway. And it does sound like the kind of thing she might be into, because it’s made from all-natural ingredients, like honey, olive oil,  bee propolis, Royal Jelly and bee pollen. You know, like the ancient Egyptians might have used?

It’s fairly expensive at £29.50 per jar, but then again, so’s buying a different product for all of those different things. If you want to try it out, you can buy it at HQ Hair. Let me know how you get on.

Batiste Coloured Dry Shampoo for black and brunette hair

batiste dry shampoo Batiste Coloured Dry Shampoo for black and brunette hairBatistse’s Dry Shampoo is a holy grail product for many of us – in fact, perhaps the only criticism I have of it is that, on dark hair, too much of it can leave a whitish residue, making you look ever so slightly grey at the roots – not a good look.

Now, however, Batiste have addressed that problem, with their new Coloured Dry Shampoo, which comes in a brunette and a black version. Exactly what it says on the tin, this has the same formula as the regular version, but with just a little bit of colour, so it won’t be noticeable on your hair. Well, not if you have brown or black hair, obviously – any chance of a version for redheads, Batiste?

Dior ‘Haute Couture’ Palette

Look at this:

Dior Haute Couture Palett Dior Haute Couture Palette

Pretty sweet, no? I mean, I know palettes and I haven’t always seen eye to perfectly-made-up eye, but this palette puts other palettes to shame. (I’ve typed the word “palette” so many times now it’s started to look like a fake word to me. I hate it when that happens.) It’s all luxurious and leathery, and just a little bit beaten up, as if it’s travelled the world and has some stories to tell . Seriously, who even cares what’s inside it? Oh well, if you insist:
