Lancôme ‘Ôscillation Powerfoundation’ Micro-Vibratin Polishing Mineral Make-up

lancome oscillation foundat Lancôme ‘Ôscillation Powerfoundation’ Micro Vibratin Polishing Mineral Make up

Well, I guess it had to happen sooner or later, didn’t it? I mean, we’ve had vibrating mascaras for aaaaggges now, so it was long past time to move onto the next thing in makeup, and it looks like that “next thing” is… vibrating foundation. Yes, vibrating foundation.

This is Lancome’s ‘Ôscillation Powerfoundation’. It’s a mineral, powder formula, and it comes with it’s own sponge applicator, which vibrates. Now, I use mineral foundation from time to time, and when I do, I have to tie and old towel around my neck because I am absolutely incapable of applying it – or any kind of loose powder, really – without getting it all over my clothes, and anything else that happens to be in the vicinity. Personally, then, I’d be even more concerned about this than I was about vibrating mascara wands, when they first came out. As it turned out, though, the mascara turned out to be no messier than normal mascara, so hopefully that’ll be the case here, too. Indeed, Lancome claim this is “never messy”, although it’s possible they didn’t have me in mind when they wrote that.

So: why do we need our mineral foundation to vibrate? According to Lancome, it’s because the vibrating applicator will massage our skin and gently distribute the product over it, allowing “7,000 micro-vibrations per minute” to ”break down the featherweight mineral powder for seamless blendability.”

Hmm. I don’t know. I’m super-fussy about how my foundation is applied. Put it this way: I wouldn’t normally allow another HUMAN to apply it for me, so I still have my doubts about allowing a machine to do it. The product itself sounds nice, though: the foundation promises 14-hour wear, contains SPF 21 and claims to give you “newborn skin”. I could be persuaded. Could you, though? If you could, this costs $48 and you can buy it at Nordstrom, amongst other places.

Lily Lolo launch new mineral makeup kits in time for Christmas

lily lolo makeup kits Lily Lolo launch new mineral makeup kits in time for Christmas

Of all of the makeup brands that I hear talked about on a daily basis, I think Lily Lolo has to be one of the ones I’ve heard recommended most often. Most people who try this brand seem to rave about it, which is why I’m actually more interested in these new gift sets for myself than for the purpose they were actually intended – to be given as Christmas gifts.

There are four new sets to choose from. My Most Wanted is the Complexion Perfection kit, which provides you with mineral foundation, finishing powder and kabuki brush (the basics to get you started in the world of mineral bases, then), but there’s also Get Up and Glow, which adds bronzer, cover-up and blush into the mix, Be Dazzled, including lipgloss, blush and eyeshadow, and an eye kit called Eye Spy With My Gorgeous Eye.

The brand also seem to have wandered a little way down the Benefit path, with vaguely retro packaging and quirky product names, which will also help make these a nice gift for me a makeup-loving friend.

You can buy them all from the Lily Lolo website.

Bare Escentuals Siren of the Sea Hydrating and Brightening Seven-Piece Collection

Bare minerals Bare Escentuals Siren of the Sea Hydrating and Brightening Seven Piece Collection

I admit it: I'm a fan of Bare Escentuals anyway, but it's actually the little clutch bag that makes me want this kit. I mean, that would be perfect for a cruise, say, wouldn't it? Not that I'm going on a cruise, of course, but it's good to be prepared…

The makeup, meanwhile, could be used any old time. The theme is hydration and brightening, so everything here is designed to deliver a bit of moisture to your skin. The colours are watery, too, with lovely corals and greens.

This collection is worth $98, but they're only charging $48 for it. It includes:

0.02 oz bareMinerals High Shine Sand Dune (gilded sand, high shine)
- 0.02 oz bareMinerals Mermaid Eyecolor (dark blue-green velvet)
- 0.02 oz bareMinerals Hydrating Coral Blush (coral dusk)
- 0.07 oz bareMinerals Hydrating Mineral Veil (brightening finish)
- 0.14 oz bareMinerals 100% Natural LipGloss in Chiffon (nude sand)
- Double-Ended Hydrate & Brighten Duo Brush with Custom Bamboo Handle

Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Beauty On the Go – a portable case for your mineral foundation

Bare Escentuals bareMinera Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Beauty On the Go a portable case for your mineral foundation

Now that I've been converted to the wonders of mineral makeup, I'm also starting to discover some of its downfalls, including the fact that it's not very portable. No, if you want to touch-up your foundation on the go, you're probably not going to want to cart around the tub of foundation plus brush, are you? I can imagine the mess in the bottom of my handbag already.

That's why Bare Escentuals' Beauty On the Go case is so handy: this is a miniature version of their Flawless Face Case, and it contains a refillable area for the foundation, plus a mini kabuki brush to apply it with. There's also a little built-in mirror for makeup emergencies, and it costs $28.

Bare Escentuals Handbag Heroes makeup kit with bag

Bare escentuals Bare Escentuals Handbag Heroes makeup kit with bag

I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home, so my entire makeup collection is always at hand. Well, actually, it's always at foot: those train cases make excellent foot rests, seriously.

In the days when I actually had to leave the house to work, though, my handbag was never without a little mini makeup kit, which was filled with everything I'd need, should I find myself in a situation where emergency makeup application was required. (I had another version of this kit in my desk at work. Why no, I don't have a makeup problem, whatever makes you say that?)

In those days – and actually, in these days too – I would've loved this Handbag Heroes kit by Bare Escentuals. It basically gives you everything you need for that handbag makeup kit, right down to the makeup bag itself, which, in this case, is a purple moc croc effort. Nice.

Inside it you'll find mini versions of Bare Escentuals:

  • Brush on All Over Face Colour
  • Light Stroke brush
  • Well Rested eye brightener
  • Miral Veil
  • Flawless Face Brush
  • Buxom Lip Polish

It costs  £25 for the lot, and would also make a nice gift for someone new to the wonders of mineral makeup. Buy it here.

Dollface Reviews: bareMinerals foundation by Bare Escentuals

bare minerals Dollface Reviews: bareMinerals foundation by Bare Escentuals

OK, forget everything I’ve said about mineral makeup in the past – I’m converted.

This has been a gradual process. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to use up the last dregs of a mineral foundation sample that had been lying around in the bottom of my Sephora box for months. For some reason I decided to just apply it over the top of my regular cream foundation and, you know what? I loved it. It made my skin look flawless, it didn’t budge all day, and… I had just used the last of the sample.

Enter Pretty Minerals, a new UK-based website selling the i.d bareMinerals line. They sent me a sample of bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation in the palest shade it comes in (fair), and all I can say is, "So THAT’S what all the fuss was about!"

Dollface Reviews: Afterglow Cosmetics Organic Mineral Foundation

afterglow foundation Dollface Reviews: Afterglow Cosmetics Organic Mineral Foundation Afterglow Cosmetics’ Organic Mineral Foundation is 100% natural, contains a natural sunscreen, and it suitable for even the most sensitive of skin. Sadly, the trial tub was the wrong shade for my porcelain (ahem!) skin, so I handed it over to Norma of Keeping It Realtor (who does have sensitive skin), who writes:

"I’ve never really been much of a foundation wearer. I hate the feeling of heavy makeup on my skin, so tinted moisturiser normally suits me fine. As someone with, ahem, more mature skin, I also prefer a "dewy" look, rather than a powdery one, which I think can be very aging, so, when I tried Afterglow Cosmetics Organic Mineral Foundation, I have to admit, I didn’t really expect to like it.

Well, it just goes to show that it’s always worthwhile trying out something different every once in a while, because this was nothing like I’d imagined it…

Dollface Reviews: Paradise Sand Mica from Coastal Scents – powder for eyes, lips or face

eyeshadow 2 Dollface Reviews: Paradise Sand Mica from Coastal Scents powder for eyes, lips or face

Before we go any further here, I should just point out that the picture below doesn’t really do justice to this powder. In real life it’s much prettier and has much more of a sheen to it, so blame my photographic skills rather than the shadow itself for the fact that it doesn’t look quite as good here as it does on your skin!

(I should also point out that I just applied this really roughly before my morning shower to let you see the colour, so no criticism of my makeup skills either, please!)

With that little disclaimer out of the way, this is Paradise Sands Mica powder from Coastal Scents, and I’m pretty enamored with it. In the picture below, I’ve used it dry, as eyeshadow, but you can also use it wet, and on your face or lips. The powder itself has an insane amount of sparkle to it, which I love. As with most shadows, though, applying a smaller amount and blending it in well will give you a much more subtle look, and I wouldn’t hesitate to wear it for daytime, although it should be said that I’m a fan of "sheen". Yes.

If you build it up, however, it will give you a really intense, metallic look, which is very dramatic and best used for glitzy occasions!

I’ve only tried it as an eyeshadow (and been impressed with its staying power, too – no bleeding and it has stayed put all day – so far) but as I mentioned above, it can also be used on your lips and face. When I tried rubbing it in to my hand, it left a gorgeous, shimmery glow, so I would be tempted to use it that way for a summer evening look, on my face, or you could really use it anywhere you wanted a bit of a sparkly glow.

Take a look under the jump for some pictures of it on…

MAC to launch mineral foundation!

maccosmetics MAC to launch mineral foundation! Great news for fans of MAC and mineral makeup – the two are soon to become one, with news that MAC is planning to launch a range of mineral foundations in 2008.

Not much seems to be known about this yet, least of all when exactly next year it’s due to launch, but it will initially be a limited edition line, although I guess there’s always a chance they’ll make it permanent if it’s a success.

MAC have also just confirmed their Heatherette for MAC Cosmetics, which will launch early in 2008 with metallic hot pink packaging. Now that I can’t wait to see!
