Boots do mineral makeup – No. 7 Eye Jewels palette

mineraleyeshadow Boots do mineral makeup No. 7 Eye Jewels palette

I’m sure I can’t be the only one who tends to make an absolute mess when using mineral makeup (or maybe I am, come to think of it…) so while the colours of this mineral eye shadow palette from Boots certainly look appealing, it’s the design of the case that really attracts me to it, because it’s been designed to help catch those spills before they end up decorating everything but your eyes!

The colours in question are plum, gold, teal and meteor, and they come with a double-ended brush and NO SPILLS!

Dollface Reviews: Coastal Scents Silk Cover Mineral Foundation

mineralmakeup Dollface Reviews: Coastal Scents Silk Cover Mineral Foundation This is only my second foray into the world of mineral makeup, and although the first attempt wasn’t particularly successful, I’ve been much happier with it second time around.

I used Coastal Scents’ Silk Cover Mineral Foundation in ‘Fair’. I was lucky in that this was a perfect match for my skintone, but there are seven different shades available which you can mix to create the perfect colour match – the foundations are also sold in trial sizes so you can try them out and make sure you’re happy with the colour before going ahead and buying a full-sized pot.

The application is much the same as any other mineral foundation: it comes as a powder, and you simply dip in your Kabuki brush into the pot, swirl it round, tap off the excess powder and then buff it gently onto your skin. The colour goes on sheer but very quickly builds up to the coverage you need: I currently have some very red skin under my eyes, and I was impressed by how easily this foundation covered it.

bareescentuals pure platinum Bare Escentuals Pure Platinum Collection £40 at HQ Hair

Regular readers will already have read my grumbles about how expensive the Bare Escentuals line is here in the UK, as opposed to the US, so it comes as a pleasant surprise to find a starter kit that costs less than £70.  That kit is Bare Escentuals ‘Pure Platinum’ which HQ Hair say has a value of £140, but  which they’re selling for just £40.

The kit contains:

• bareMinerals Ripe Fig 100% Natural Lipcolor
• Double-Ended Mascara (Classic Black Mascara/Platinum Beautifully Luminous Lashes)

• Full Tapered Shadow Brush
• Crease Defining Brush

A nice gift for a mineral makeup fan or, you know, a certain beauty blogger of your acquaintance…

Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals ‘Get Started’ kit – a good time to buy if you’re in the UK

bareescentuals Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Get Started kit a good time to buy if youre in the UK One of my biggest beauty regrets of this year is that I didn’t buy one of Bare Escentuals’ ‘Get Started’ mineral foundation kits when I was in the US this summer. The reason? Well, each kit costs around $60 over there, where over here you’re lucky to get change out of £60 for the same thing. (That’s about $120, for the benefit of any US readers). Not very fair, is it?

Well, luckily for those of us living in dear old Blighty, the pound/dollar exchange rate is looking mighty fine right now, with a rate of $2.10 to the the $1. That’s not great news for the US, of course, but it is good news for those of us who’re keen to get our hands on some budget beauty buys.

Right now on eBay, for instance, the Bare Escentuals kits are selling for $49.99, plus $15 shipping. That works out at around £31, which is still £20 less than the cheapest kit on eBay UK. I know what I’ll be buying this week, then…
