As someone who’s spent what feels like a lifetime trying to fight back her unruly brows, I had to suppress a shudder at the sight of the models at Philip Lim’s Fall 2008 show, who appeared to have had their eyebrows brushed straight up towards their hairlines. It’s not something that stands out from a distance, of course, but up close it looks pretty odd, and my hands are just itching to take an eyebrow comb to these girls!
Eyebrows aside, the look at Lim was pale and interesting, with pale faces offset by matt red and plumb lipstick. This is a look I generally love, but those eyebrows are putting me off – what do you think?

It’s been over four weeks since I picked up my bottle of Boots’ Refine & Rewind Intense Perfecting Serum, so time for a quick review…
As I mentioned in my last post, this is actually the second time I’ve used Refine & Rewind, and I have to say the difference in my skin was less noticeable the second time round. When I first used the serum, back in April, there was a noticeable difference to pore size and skin softness – this time, although there was an improvement, it wasn’t quite as dramatic. That could just be because my skin had improved from the last round of Refine & Rewinding, or it could just be because I’ve been very stressed lately, which isn’t so great for skin, as we know. But that aside, on with the review:

No, you’re not seeing this: that really is a picture of a baby. And no, we’ve not suddenly become a parenting blog overnight, and I don’t have any "news" for you, mum, so don’t go getting your hopes up. What I do have, though, is a pack of Huggies Soft Skin wipes, which look like they’re intended just for babies, but are actually meant for anyone who doesn’t want to spend hours in the bathroom messing around with cleaners and toners, and who’d rather just wash and go. So, what’s the verdict?
Well, like Jen over at Glossing Over It, these weren’t so hot at removing makeup, with mascara proving just too much of a challenge for them. However, with the eye makeup removed courtesy of my trusty Botanics Eye Makeup remover, I actually found these very pleasant to use. They smell lovely, and left my skin feeling pleasantly tingly, and with fluids on planes now a big no-no, I think they’d come in handy on long air journeys when you want to freshen up but don’t have your regular cleaner with you. They’ll work for your hands, too, which is always a bonus.
So, there you go: your face can feel as soft as a baby’s bottom – you’ve just got to use the same products the baby does.

Given that this site has become my own special place for embarrassing myself , I may as well admit that, as well as meeting above my nose (if I don’t tweeze them every day), my eyebrows are also long and straggly. Yes, you wish you were me, you really do…
When you have long, straggly eyebrows, you face a daily battle to look anything like “groomed”. You see, I can tweeze my eyebrows into the perfect shape, but the long, long hairs will still straggle, making me look like I’ve been dragged through the proverbial bush backwards. Cutting them is a mistake – that just makes them spiky. Having them professionally threaded or some other kind of salon treatment could work, but doesn’t because I am:
a) poor
b) lazy
So it’s Benefit Speedbrow all the way. Luckily for me, Speedbrow is something of a miracle worker on my eyebrows. As well as giving them a bit of colour (they’re naturally very pale), it also holds them in place, keeping all those stragglers in place and, even better, keeping them in place all day. It’s probably not as good as a professional eyebrow tweezing/threading/whatever, but almost…

I wish I knew why it is that I’m always so drawn to lipglosses. The truth is, I never wear lipgloss. Ever. I have long hair, you see, and the second I slick on some lipgloss I have long hair on my face, welded to my lips by the power of the gloss. Then I have gloss on my hair. And on my coffee mug. And in my coffe. And… well, you get the picture.
That doesn’t stop me buying the stuff, though. No, I’m still a sucker for the stuff (or maybe just a sucker?), which is why this Glossbox by Cargo has caught my eye. It contains 14 different shimmery and sheer lipglosses, all packed in a handy carrying case. You shall have lipgloss wherever you go, people. Not me, though. I’ll just have sticky hair…

Now, here’s a novel idea… It’s called Wax Away, and it’s basically a depilatory cream that showers right off just minutes after application – taking unwanted hair with it, natch. According to the instructions, all you have to do is apply the cream, wait one minute, then jump in the shower and wait a further two minutes before showering it away. For anyone that’s ever tried to use Immac (or Veet, as it’s now called) but been overpowered by the smell or bored by the amount of time you have to sit around waiting for it to "take", this sounds like a pretty good idea. No more razors, no more wax strips, no more legs cut to shreds because, really, you’re too clumsy to be allowed control of a sharp instrument (why yes, I am talking about myself!). Sounds good to me, but will it actually work, I wonder?

I heard about this via Jen’s blog, Glossing Over It, this weekend, and was so excited I almost wet myself. Sorry, am I over-sharing here?
As you all know, I lovelovelove Benefit, so a new product launch from them is always good news. This one is particularly good news, though, because, well, it sounds like a particularly good product. It’s a face primer, but unlike Benefit’s currently available primer, Doctor Feelgood, this one will also brighten your skin, rather than just preparing it for makeup. According to Benefit, "It’s a silky pink primer that makes skin appear smoother &
brighter. Wear alone for clear complexion radiance or apply before
makeup for smooth, effortless application. Re-brighten during the day
with "that gal."
It’s $27 and currently only available in the US, but no doubt coming soon to an eBay auction near you.

OK, ok, I know what you’re thinking: olive oil is, well, oily, isn’t it? And smelly. And, most importantly: something you put on your food, not on your face.
Well, yes, all of these points are good ones. But olive oil also makes an excellent, cheap, cleanser, and trust me, I should know: I’ve been using it for over a year. Now, before you all start making faces at me, no I don’t smell like salad dressing, my skin doesn’t resemble a small oil slick, and I don’t have spots. (I do keep running out of oil for my salads, mind you, but that’s another problem altogether). Strangely enough, even although olive oil is, itself, oily (well, duh!) it doesn’t make your skin oily – actually, it does the exact opposite. You see, your skin, being the clever organ it is, will only absorb the moisture it needs. The result: soft, clean skin that doesn’t cost you a fortune in the upkeep. Here’s how to do it:

As much as I hate seeing women lying on the beach and touching up their makeup, there’s no denying that summer calls for a slightly different approach to cosmetics. You’re going to want to pare it down a little, and maybe go for something a little more dewy and natural than you’d wear during winter. The Beach Bunny by Too Faced is the ideal palette for summer, with two lip glosses, two eye shadows and a blusher. It’s reduced to £7.70 at PrettyCow.co.uk , and it comes in a pretty little box, too. You know how we love the packaging.

Ouch. Definitely one of the scariest “Celebrities sans makeup” shots I’ve seen, I think…. Here we have Christina Ricci with dissapearing eyebrows, a nice set of under-eye luggage, pasty skin, and generally looking like… well, like one of us, really. Welcome to the club, Christina.
