A product can lengthen and thicken as much as it wants, but there’s nothing like a bit of curl to widen and emphasise the eye, so if my mascara doesn’t lock the curl I get from my trusty eyelash curlers in place, it’s of no use to me whatsoever. This is why I rate Lancome’s waterproof mascara’s so highly, and it’s also why when I was sent a tube of Boots 17′s Wild Curl Mascara, which claims to hold curl for up to ten hours, I was really keen to try it. It looks like this: Suitably “wild”, no? The brush looks like this:

Boots No. 7 Decades Collection launches todayOne of my favourite brands, Boot’ No. 7, is 75 years old this year, and to celebrate, they’ve just launched their Decades Collection, which allows you to recreate some of the most iconic looks from the past seven decades. Using the most popular colours from each decade, the collection comprises eye, lip and nail colours, and there’s also a £14 ‘Hero’ compact which sums up the No. 7 look. My favourite of the looks created by No7 creative director and make-up artist, Lisa Eldridge, would have to be the 1960s face (above), which uses the products pictured below, although I’m also loving the red lips and nails of the 1940s look, too. Take a look under the jump to see some more, and click here to browse the products at the Boots website! Boots No. 7 new Lift & Luminate skincare collectionFor my money, Boots’ No. 7 skin creams are right up there beside some of the high-end brands in terms of quality. Of course, they’re not cheap: in fact, they fall into a price bracket that’s not too far off that of some of the aforementioned high-end brands, but having been pretty much raised on No. 7 (my mum has been a fan for as long as I can remember and I swear by their Protect & Perfect range), I’m always interested in a new release in the skincrae line. This one is called “Lift and Luminate”. I bet you can’t guess what it does, can you? Yes! It lifts and… luminates the skin! Aimed at the “more mature woman”, here’s what Boots have to say about the line:
So far, so like Protect & Perfect, then, but as this is aimed at a slightly older demographic, Boots say it will also make the skin feel firmer, rather than “just” reducing the appearance of wrinkles. As you’ll have noticed from the blurb above, they also say this will happen in just four weeks, which makes me wonder if it’ll sell out as quickly as P&P did when it was originally launched, too. There’s a day cream (£19.50) , a night cream (£20.50 each) and an eye cream (£19.50) and these are available now from Boots. Dollface Reviews: Boots 17 Va Va Voom Volume Mascara
A mascara called “Va Va Voom” – sounds right up my street, doesn’t it? This is Boots 17’s latest release, and it promises to deliver drama, volume and a formula that allows you to apply as many coats as you like without it clumping. Sounds good, but does it work? The first thing you’re likely to notice about this product is the oversized brush. As regular readers will know, I prefer my mascara wands on the slim side, because the thicker they are, the harder I find them to use. Actually, this one was easier to use than many similar wands I’ve tried, although ultimately I don’t think the big, bristly style will ever be my favourite – I’m too clumsy to avoid getting the product all over my eyelids with this type of brush! That said, this mascara wasn’t too hard to apply, and left only a couple of spots on my eyelids. The “after” pciture above shows the results after just one coat, and I actually found that one coat was best for me with this, as it did tend to clump a little with extra layers, and those layers also dragged out the curl in my lashes. I’m wearing several coats in the top picture, and don’t think it looks as good. For a budget mascara, though (it’s only £5.68), this does a pretty good job. I found the effect to be fluttery rather than dramatic, and it’s a mascara I’d probably reserve for day-wear, but if you like larger mascara brushes, you’ll probably get on better with it! Dollface Reviews: Boots No7 Dual Protection Tinted Moisturiser
I should say first of all that I’ve never really been a “tinted moisturiser” kinda girl. In fact, I think I’ve owned about two tubes of the stuff in my entire life, and both of those were “retired” having barely been used. As those of you who’ve read my “Friday Face” posts will know, I’m just not much of a one for the natural look! All of this is to say that I wasn’t really expecting to like this product as much as I did. As it’s a moisturiser rather than a foundation, it’s obviously going to only give a light coverage: despite this, though, it did even out my skin tone, and left my face looking fresh and, dare I say it, a little bit dewy. Yes, dewy. I was expecting to feel a little bit “bare faced” with this on rather than my usual foundation, but actually, that hasn’t been the case, which is perhaps a sign that I don’t really need to wear as much foundation as I think I do! The only issue for me is the colour. I’m using this in “Fair”, which is slightly darker than I’d usually go for, and if, like me, you have super-pale skin, I’d say it’ll probably won’t be a good match for you: despite being happy with the coverage, I’ll probably get most use out of it during the summer, when the rest of my skin has a bit of (fake) colour to it, rather than in the winter, when I typically resemble a vampire. The product goes on nicely, absorbs quickly and has none of the greasiness I’d normally have associated with a moisturiser. A few hours after applying it, my skin feels soft and comfortable. If you have spots to cover, or generally go for a heavy coverage foundation, this probably won’t work for you, but if you’re looking for something light and easy to wear, it could be worth a shot. Dollface Reviews: Boots Expert Cuticle Remover
As it happened, however, I didn’t have to search for very long, because so far I’m really liking the first one I tried, which is Boots own-brand Expert Cuticle Remover. This is a really gritty formula, which feels more like an exfoliator than a cream. As with most cuticle removers, you simply apply it to the offending area, leave it for a minute or so and then gently push back the cuticles with an orange stick or something. I actually wasn’t expecting too much from this, but I was impressed with the results: the product removed the cuticles quickly and cleanly, and didn’t leave me with the usual ragged edges, either. (Just to be sure, I use my Sephora Cuticle Pen afterwards, to give the area a but of nourishment. ) Boots Expert Cuticle Remover, £3.75 Boots No. 7 Wild Volume Lipstick – for fuller, smoother lips
Boots No.7′s new Wild Volume lipstick promises to make your lips look fuller and smoother, but this is NOT a lip plumper, so those of you who’re tired of shelling out for products that sting a whole lot but don’t make much of a difference to the appearance of your lips can relax. Instead of irritating the lips in a bid to plump them up, this simply uses a creamy formula to fill in lines and creases, and make your lips look full and smooth. Simple, but (hopefully) effective. It costs £9.50 and comes in six different colours. Get it at Boots. Mascara Wars: Dollface Reviews Boots No. 7 Extravagant Lashes Mascara
This week was the turn of Boots No. 7′s new Extravagant Lashes mascara, and as you can imagine, the name alone got me pretty excited. All lashes should be extravagant, don’t you think? Extravagance is what this product claims to provide. Or, in Boots’ own words:
As with most mascaras, it does all of this by virtue of the brush, which, in this case, is square. (But not pink. I’m not sure why the product image shows a bright pink wand, but the one I was sent is most definitely black). Now, I don’t think I’ve ever used a square mascara wand before, so read on to find out how I got on… No7 Protect & Perfect Skin & Body Collection
I've spoken of my love for the Boots Protect & Perfect Range many times here, and I almost feel like this skin and body set has been sent purely to test my powers of resistance. It's £48.98, which is actually pretty good value when you consider that inside the little vanity case, you'll find: · Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum, 30ml This would make a great gift, but it would also be a good introduction to the brand if you haven't got round to trying it yet.
