Well, consider me officially charmed! These days, cosmetics manufacturers frequently seem to be trying to outdo each other on the science-and-technology front (vibrating mascara wands, anyone?), but Boots have gone for the opposite approach, diving into their archives to find the recipes for the skincare products they were selling as long ago as 1877. Vintage packaging and some of the original formulations have been used to create the Boots Original Beauty Formula collection, which contains things like cold cream, foam bath and skin balm. There's a mix of old and new here, with some modern technology being used to bring the products up to date. There are still plenty of original ingredients like sweet almond oil, plus glass bottles which can be collected and re-used. Prices range from about £5 – £12, so there's nothing too expensive here either. I absolutely love the sound of this, and will try to check it out in person ASAP. In the meantime, you can buy the full range online here. Boots No. 7 Stay Perfect Nail Polish in Rose Truffle![]() Excuse the slap-dash application in this photo: I hadn’t actually intended to paint my nails today, but the bottle was sitting on my desk, my computer crashed and while I was waiting for it to re-start, I found myself slapping on some polish. I didn’t take much time over it because I assumed I’d probably just be taking it right back off again, but I actually liked it enough to let it stay put, which meant I then had to go and remove the different-shade-of-red-polish that was already on my toes, and replace it with this instead, before the thought of the two different shades of red brought me out in hives. (I would ask if anyone else has this compulsion to make sure the same colours are used on fingernails and toes, but I’m guessing the answer to that would probably be "No, Dollface, you’re a freak," so moving on…) This is Boots No. 7′s Long Lasting Nail Polish in ‘Rose Truffle’, and I really like it. When I wear red nail polish, I tend to go for brighter, more "pillar box" shades of red, but this is more of a plum red, which is nice for a bit of a change, and somehow particularly nice for winter. I generally stick to clear polish on my fingernails (yes, I can tolerate that at the same time as red on my toes…), because I find it very high maintenance, especially given that I spend the entire day typing. I hate the look of chipped nail polish, but this one promises to ‘Stay Perfect’, so I’m giving it a shot. Will it live up to it’s name? I guess I’m about to find out! This contains the same antioxidant complex as the skincare range and has an SPF of 15, so the idea is that it should help care for your skin (especially if used in conjunction with the various skincare products) as well as evening out your skin tone, covering your blemishes and doing all that other good stuff foundations do. It comes in seven different shades, is £15 and if you want to try it out, now would be a good time to do it as Boots are currently offering three for two on their No. 7 range. That means you can also pick up the new Protect & Perfect lip care, which gives you the same deal as the rest of the skincare range, only for the lips. Protect & Perfect – taking over the Dollface beauty cupboard one product at a time, apparently… Dollface Reviews: Boots No7 Cleanse & Care Eye Make up Remover
Just to be clear, this product is second-best purely in terms of price for me. It’s £7 per bottle compared to just £2.99 for my regular Botanics remover, but both are equally quick and gentle to use, and will remove even waterproof mascara easily. They’re both two-layered liquids, so you need to give them a quick shake before use. In terms of differences between them, well, the No 7 product is hypo-allergenic, which may make it more suitable for those of you who have easily irritated skin. My mum has very sensitive skin and is allergic to a lot of things, but she swears by Boots No 7 for this reason. Overall, a fantastic eye makeup remover, and good value for money – just not as good value as my regular one! Boots No. 7 Stay Perfect Eye Mousse in ‘Sky’![]() Remember the free makeup bag and products Boots are currently giving away with No. 7 purchases over £20? Well, it so happened that Mum Dollface picked one of these up over the weekend, and was kind enough to pass on to me the products she didn’t need. One of them was this Stay Perfect Eye Mousse (or "eyeshadow" as it’s known to you and me), and I’m probably not going to get a lot of use out of this myself because bright blue eyeshadow isn’t something I wear very often, but I did find the colour very pretty when I tested it on the back of my hand, and thought I’d show it to you anyway. This isn’t so much a "mousse" as a creamy eyeshadow, and it has a lovely shimmer to it which lasts long after the deep blue has been rubbed on. The colour is called "Sky", and as you can see above, it’s the same bright blue as a summer sky, although I’d say the pigment is a little deeper in real life. I’m not sure how well this will wear, as I haven’t had the chance to try it on my eyelids, but if you like the look of it, it costs £8.50 per tube, and there are six colours to choose from. This has the tagline "Younger Longer", which is the name of the Boots No. 7 hand cream I reviewed earlier this month, and that makes me wonder how much of a difference there’ll actually be between these two. The Protect & Perfect cream is slightly more expensive, at £10.25 to the Younger Longer’s £9.95, so I’m assuming there is a difference – I’d be interested to see exactly what it is, though. For me, £10.25 is fairly expensive for a hand cream, as I have something of a love/hate relationship with the stuff, but if it’s as good as the rest of the Protect & Perfect range, it’s probably worth it. Buy it here. Dollface Reviews: Boots Refine & Rewind Intense Perfecting Serum
As I mentioned in my last post, this is actually the second time I’ve used Refine & Rewind, and I have to say the difference in my skin was less noticeable the second time round. When I first used the serum, back in April, there was a noticeable difference to pore size and skin softness – this time, although there was an improvement, it wasn’t quite as dramatic. That could just be because my skin had improved from the last round of Refine & Rewinding, or it could just be because I’ve been very stressed lately, which isn’t so great for skin, as we know. But that aside, on with the review:
