Tag Archives: bronzerProduct Comparison: GOSH Bronzing Shimmer Brush Vs Lancome Tropique Minerals All-Over Magic Bronzing BrushGOSH’s Bronzing Shimmer Brush is another of the GOSH goodies I was sent this week, and as soon as I pulled it out of the bag, it reminded me of the Lancome Tropique Minerals All-Over Magic Bronzing Brush I’ve been using for the past couple of months, so, rather than do a straightforward review, I thought I’d compare the two products for you. Both are bronzers (surprise, surprise) which promise to give a hint of iridescent shimmer as well as creating that sun-kissed glow beauty companies are always banging on about. As you can see from the photo above, these look very similar, but come from very different price ranges: the Lancome product is £33, whereas the GOSH one retails for £7.50. (Er, sorry about the state of the Lancome bronzer, by the way: it’s been rolling around inside my makeup case for the past few weeks and is looking the worse for wear. I’m always amazed when I see beauty bloggers’ photos of their immaculate beauty products: mine almost always look like this.) They both come with brushes to distribute the powder: Dollface Reviews: Lancome Tropique Minerals All-Over Magic Bronzing BrushLast week someone asked me a question on Formspring about how I deal with the issue of mismatched foundation once I have a tan. Now, I don’t ever tan naturally (SPF 50 all the way!) but I do use self-tanner at times during the summer, and one of the ways I deal with the foundation issue is shown above: Lancome Tropique Minerals All-Over Magic Bronzing Brush. (The other method, in case you’re interested, involves foundation that’s a shade darker than I’d usually wear. There is a use for all of those foundations that just don’t work on my pale skin!) This was sent to me just before I left for vacation, and I used it every day while I was away, and fairly frequently since I’ve been back, too, although I must admit, I’m using a lot less self-tanner at the moment. It’s a mineral bronzing powder which comes with a self-dispensing brush: just pump the end of the tube a few times to release the powder, then dust it on to the forehead, cheekbones, and anywhere else you want to add a touch of summer “glow”. At first I found the brush a little tricky to use: I seemed to be pumping the dispenser without anything much happening, but I assume this was just because it was brand new. Since those first couple of uses, I’ve had no issues with it, although as the shade I was sent is the palest one Lancome do (shade 01), it does need a bit of layering for me to notice a difference. This particular shade isn’t for you if you’re looking to radically change the colour of your skin (there’s a darker shade available if that’s the case) and end up looking like a bronzed goddess. What I found was that it’s perfect for giving a natural glow, without making me look like I have a “tan”. I don’t think anyone would think I was wearing bronzer, for instance, although I can see quite a big difference as it really takes the edge of my pallor, while still looking natural. This was particularly important to me, because I’m really bad with bronzer. Most of the time I just end up looking like I have a really dirty face, so I loved the subtlety of this, and the fact that it’s virtually foolproof: I haven’t had to spend any time locked in the bathroom frantically trying to blend too-dark bronzer, put it that way… This is a mineral powder, which makes it comfortable to wear, and the effect lasts all day. It’s fairly expensive at £33 per tube, but after a few weeks of steady use, I’ve barely made a dent in it, so it should last a long time. You can buy a tube here, if you want to try it out for yourself. Benefit Powderazzi – three famous face powders in one“I’m your biggest fan, I’ll follow you until you love me! Powder! Powderazzi!” Whoops, sorry: you caught me in a ‘Lady Gaga’ moment there. And that song’s going to be stuck in my head ALL DAY now, too. Gah. Anyway, on with the show: this is a (relatively) new release from Benefit, and as a fan of their face powder (I’m a “Georgia” girl myself, but I’ve always fancied trying the rest of the range), I think it’s a really good idea, allowing you to try out three different products, and only pay a couple of dollars more than you’d pay for one. If you’re worried about the size of these, I’d say you probably don’t need to be, because Benefit powder tends to last a long time: or at least it has for me. I’ve had the same tub of Georgia for years now: I bought a new one for my wedding (in, er, 2007), thinking the original was about to run out, but I STILL haven’t had to bust it out almost three years later. True, I don’t tend to wear it quite as often as I used to, but even so, although the stuff is expensive, it should last long enough to justify the price. This set contains CORALista (blusher), Hula (bronzer) and Dallas (dust it on anywhere you want to “glow” – I’d really like to try this one!), so would make a good travel kit, too. It’s $30 and available from Benefit. Lancôme’s Maharani Jewels collection for Fall 08
Can it really be time for the fall makeup collections to start coming out already? It is, you know, and as depressing as the thought of autumn is for me, at least it gives us all more makeup to lust after, including these pieces from Lancôme’s Maharani Jewels collection. Take a look under the jump to read more about the collection, and view some larger images of the bronzer and Juicy Tube…
