Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm

clinique chubby stick lip balm Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm

“Chubby Stick”. That’s the actual name of this product. I think that’s probably the best thing I’ve heard all day.

“What is it, though, Dollface?” I hear you all cry. OK, not really. You could totally tell what it is from the title, couldn’t you? And yes, you’re right: it is, indeed, a “moisturizing lip colour balm”.  It’s also both “chubby” and “a stick”. Well named, Clinique!

It contains Shea Butter, Mango Seed Butter and Jojoba Seed Oil (the “moisturising” bit) and provides a sheer wash of colour. I’m a bit of a sucker for anything shaped like a crayon, and my lips are permanently a) dry and b) so pale it’s hard to separate them from the surrounding skin, so I like the look of these. Here are the colours they’re available in:

I like the look of ‘Chunky Cherry’ myself, but as these are supposed to be fairly sheer, I’d imagine most of them would be quite easy to wear. If you want to put that to the test, they’re £13.50 and will be available from April 15th from Clinique counters everywhere.

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

clinique bottom lash mascara Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

Now, I know what you’re (possibly) thinking: bottom lash mascara? Isn’t that a bit redundant? I mean, can’t you just use the same mascara on your bottom lashes as you do on the top, and save yourself some money?

Well, of course, you can, and if that works for you, then you’re luckier than me, and you also don’t need to bother reading the rest of this post. (Come back tomorrow, though!) For me, though, bottom lash mascara sounds like a pretty great thing, because the truth is, I’ve been using different mascaras on my top and bottom lashes for as long as I can remember, and the reason for this is that all mascara wands are not created equally. Some a great at lifting and curling and volumizing the upper lashes, for instance, but what I generally find is that those that are good at doing all of those things generally aren’t so great at coating the lower lashes: the brushes are normally too thick and rounded, and if you have very fair, sparse lower lashes, like I do, you just end up with a big old mess.

Meanwhile, the mascara brushes that are perfect on the lower lashes… generally don’t make one bit of difference to the top ones. Gah.

Instead of making do with just one mascara, then, I generally have a couple (or, you know, more) of mascaras on the go at any one time, and I’ll use one on the upper lashes and another one, with a smaller, finer brush, which I use on the lowers. This works out OK for me, but of course, there’s always room for improvement, and this is where Clinique’s new Bottom Lash Mascara comes in. It, you see, has a brush which is designed specifically to help you get to grips with the lower lashes. It’s both smaller, thinner and more delicate looking that regular mascara brushes, and this should allow for a much more precise application, with none of those little lashes being missed out. (It’ll also come in handy for the corner of the eyes, which is another area larger brushes don’t always get to.)

All of that sounds good to me, and as I’m using more than one mascara per eye anyway, even the £10 price tag doesn’t do much to put me off. This is available in black/brown and standard black, and while it’s currently out of stock at the Clinique UK website, you should be able to pick one up at your nearest Clinique counter.

Clinique Strawberry Fudge Holiday Compact

(Disclosure: this was sent to me as a press sample)

I’m not much of a fan of Christmas, and all the hysteria that surrounds it, but I am a fan of all of the limited edition makeup palettes that start to come out around this time – especially the ones that come in pretty, shiny little packages. This is Clinique’s Strawberry Fudge Holiday Compact, and as you can see, it totally lives up to its name, containing a selection of cosmetics in chocolately, strawberry shades:

Three eye shadows along the top, plus a powder blush and two applicator brushes which, if you’re anything like me, you’ll completely ignore in favour of the brushes you already have. Here’s a close-up:

Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle & UV Damage Corrector

clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle UV Damage Corrector Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle & UV Damage Corrector

I can’t seem to pick up a magazine at the moment without reading a glowing review of Clinique’s new Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle & UV Damage Corrector, and the more I read, the more I start to foresee a £35 skincare purchase in my near future.

Actually, though, if this product lives up to the hype, I think £35 will be a bit a of a bargain. Essentially a serum, the difference with this one is that they’re claiming it performs almost the same function as a laser resurfacing procedure. True, the Clinique product is only about 63% as effective as a laser treatment, but when you consider the difference in price (laser treatments can cost hundreds, this is just £35), that’s still sounding fairly compelling to me.

The serum takes a three-pronged approach to making skin look younger: there are anti-oxidants to neutralize free radicals and allow the skin to repair itself naturally, peptides to boost collagen production and hep smooth fine lines, and repair enzimes to help make the skin stronger and more able to heal itself. Put all of this together and you get a product which, Clinique say, will start to make a difference to the skin after four weeks of twice-a-day use: give it 12 weeks, however, and you should start to see results comparable to laser resurfacing.

Now, I really, really want to believe that all of this is true, and most of the reviews I’d read so far do seem to be positive. As someone whose spent a lot more money than I’m prepared to admit to over the years on so-called “wonder products”, however, I’m naturally a little cynical. Somehow, though, I doubt that cynicism will stop me giving this a try at some point as the price seems reasonable for a serum, and downright cheap if it really DOES do everything it claims to.

Want to give it a try? Click here to buy it direct from Clinique: and if you do, I’d love to hear what you think of it!

(P.S. In a bid to simplify my Twitter accounts and make it easier to keep track of mentions, etc, I’m in the process of merging the Dollface Twitter account with my personal one, so please follow @foreveramber to continue to be notified about new posts here. Clinique Instant Lift for Brows

clinique instant lift for b Clinique Instant Lift for BrowsI love products like this. I’m sure no one reading this needs me to tell them the difference  well-shaped and defined brows can make to your appearance, and I always find a good brow highlighter is one of the easiest ways to give your face a “lift”, which, funnily enough, is exactly what this product promises to deliver!

It’s Clinique’s Instant Lift for Brows, it costs $15, and has a brown pencil on one side and a highlighter on the other. My only quibble with this is that there are only three colour combinations available, which makes me wonder if there’ll be one that will work with my hard-to-match colouring. Only one way to find out, I guess!

Clinique High Lengths Mascara

clinique high lengths masca Clinique High Lengths Mascara

I’d apologise for bringing you yet another mascara post this week, but if you’re a regular reader you’re already familiar with my mascara obsession, and if not, well, just lookit this! That’s quite some mascara wand, no?

This is Clinique’s new High Lengths Mascara, which is due for release this February, and as the name – and the appearance – suggests, this baby is all about length. Great! Me too! According to the people at Clinique, High Lengths “stretches lashes to unrivaled lengths with beautifully defined separation”. It does this by dint of that long, skinny applicator, which has a few different things going for it. Most noticeable is the length and shape: I much prefer thin applicators for mascaras, because I find them much more accurate, and much less messy than their chunky counterparts, so so far this one is looking good to me. The tines are also strategically placed, along one side of the wand only, and this is so that you always have the right amount of product on the applicator. The side without the tines is a smooth, bright green, so you always know which way round it’s supposed to go.

Add to all of this a bunch of lengthening and conditioning ingredients, and you have what sounds like a really interesting product. Will it live up to the claims, though? We’ll have to wait until February to find out.
