Models Own Solid Colour Lip Balm Pots

models own lip balm Models Own Solid Colour Lip Balm Pots

I know there are a few of you out there who, like me, love lip balms, but need a little more colour than they typically provide in order to look human rather than dancer vampire, so I thought these little lip balm pots by Models Own (it always really bothers me not to use an apostrophe there, but it IS how the brand name is written, so…) might be of interest. They’re balms rather than lip colours, but they are highly pigmented, which means there should hopefully be none of that “barely there” colour that’s perfect on all you (lucky) dewy-skinned English Rose types and not so useful on us “If I fell asleep on the beach, people would think I was a corpse” types.

There are three shades to choose from, two of which are available at ASOS, for £5 each. I actually sometimes wish ASOS.com DIDN’T sell beauty products: it’s just far too tempting to slip a little something into my shopping basket next time I’m indulging my shoe obsession over there!

Dollface Reviews: Jelly Pong Pong Lip Orchid Lip Balms in Petal Pink and Bouquet

jelly pong pong lip orchid Dollface Reviews: Jelly Pong Pong Lip Orchid Lip Balms in Petal Pink and Bouquet

More pretty packaging from Jelly Pong Pong - a brand name guaranteed to make Mr Dollface laugh every single time I say it!

These two little ‘Lip Orchid’ balms come as part of a set, and although they were sent to me last month, it’s taken me a while to get round to trying them out properly, mostly because I’ve been spending my time just sniffing them. These are seriously some of the nicest smelling products I’ve tried in a long time – as the name would suggest, they both have a very floral scent, which I really like. Take a look under the jump to see some colour swatches, and what these look like on…

Body Shop Lip Scuff – for dry, chapped lips

body shop lip scuff Body Shop Lip Scuff for dry, chapped lips

My lips have a tendency towards dryness even at the very best of times. Winter, of course, is far from the best of times, and sore, chapped lips can become the norm if I’m not careful. The Body Shop’s ‘Lip Scuff’ contains  fig stone granules to exfoliate the lips and get rid of dry skin, with Macadamia nut oil to moisturise them, and even a touch of peppermint oil to keep your breath smelling minty fresh. Sound good? It’s $12 from The Body Shop.

Dior ‘Boréale’ Crystal Lip Balm Pendant

dior lip balm1 Dior ‘Boréale’ Crystal Lip Balm Pendant

Holy macaroni, an $80 lip balm! And, OK, it IS a rather pretty one, and most of that cost has probably gone into the case, rather than the balm itself, but still, I think it’s the kind of thing I’d rather have bought for me than by me.

As well as looking generally bling-tastsic, this also has a bit of history to it: it was inspired by the Aurore Boréale Crystal—a Swarovski crystal created exclusively for Christian Dior in 1955. As well as the price, the other drawback here, though, is that that the gloss inside is only available in one colour – Pink Crystal, which looks to be a classic “Barbie” pink, and may not suit everyone. If you think it’ll suit you, though, this is available at Nordstrom.

Drumstick lip balm from River Island

drumstick lip balm Drumstick lip balm from River Island

Anyone like Drumsticks? They were (and probably still are, for all I know) little chewy lollipops you used to get as part of a Pick n’ Mix, although you could buy them on their own too. I’m writing this is the past tense purely because I haven’t had one for years – I’d assume you can still buy them now, though, if you’re in the UK.

One thing I KNOW you can buy, however, is this Drumstick Lip Balm from River Island. It’s only £2.99 and has a raspberry and vanilla flavour, just like the sweets. Could be a nice little blast from the past next time I’m buying something from River Island. Which, knowing me, will probably be soon

Dollface Reviews: Lanolips 101 Lip Ointment

lanolips lip ointment Dollface Reviews: Lanolips 101 Lip Ointment

The phrase “medical grade lip ointment” may not sound particularly glamorous, but I’m here to tell you different: there’s nothing remotely medicinal about Lanolips’ 101 Lip Ointment – in fact, it has a fairly luxe look about it, and is available in a range of colours, too, which makes it as pretty as it is practical.

As for the “practical” bit, this product contains medical grade lanolin, vitamin E, natural oil and pigments, so while the lanolin and oils will give you some serious moisture, it’s also very natural – in fact, the company say it’s pure enough to use on newborns, should you so desire (there are no chemicals or additives, and it’s hypoallergenic). The product itself is fairly thick: you can tell that this isn’t something that’s been produced for purely cosmetic purposes, and, once on, it will nourish and repair your lips, leaving them feeling soft and smooth.

As well as the original version of this, I’ve also been trying out two of the colours – ‘Sunshine’, which is an orangey red, and ‘Rose’ which, as the name suggests, is a soft pink.  Neither of these colours is particularly bright or deep, so although the ‘Sunshine’ in particular looked like it would be a little bit too much on my pale skin, they actually give you just a hint of colour and shine. They’re not going to be a replacement for a normal, coloured lip gloss, but if you’re mostly interested in the balm itself, and just want a touch of colour, these will give you a nice, natural pout. Oh, and the ointment can also be used on your cuticles too, although you’re going to want to try the clear version for that…

The ointment is also available in two other colours, and six new products will be added to the range soon. This is an Australian brand, but you can buy it from Adore Beauty, who ship internationally, too.

Korres Lemon Lip Scrub

korres lemon lip scrub Korres Lemon Lip Scrub

Lip scrubs are nothing new (I must confess, I just use my toothbrush to “scrub” my lips, but then, I am notoriously cheap about things that aren’t mascaras, foundations, primers or anything with the word “glow” in its name), but I like the fact that this one by Korres comes in the form of a “lipstick” – it should be that bit handier for dealing with, er, lip emergencies on the go, as it were.

Rice powder is the main exfoliating agent in this product, but there’s also a mix of jojoba seed oil and beeswax to moisturise them, too. We’re swiftly reaching that “dry lips” time of the year here, but I will probably continue to use my toothbrush for a little while longer at least.  If you’d rather give this a whirl, it’s $19 at www.sephora.com Korres Lemon Lip Scrub.

Almost there…

purse lip balms Almost there...

Well, as you’ll no doubt have gathered, our move to WordPress took a little longer than we’d anticipated! Sorry for the lack of posts this week, everyone: we’ve now completed the transfer, but we’re still hunting down the gremlins in the system, so you’ll probably notice some broken links, slow loading times and other fun things like that! We’ll be back to normal by Monday (yes, I know I said that last week!) so thanks for sticking with us!

In the meantime, you haven’t wandered onto a handbag blog by mistake: the image above shows you two purse-shaped lip balms from River Island. Get them here.

Cheetos flavoured lip balm: do not want

Cheetos lip balm Cheetos flavoured lip balm: do not want

Now, don't get me wrong: I love Cheetos. And I love lip balm. And above all, I love lip balm that tastes like food.

But lip balm that tastes like Cheetos? I think I'm going to pass on that. If you, on the other hand, can't wait to get your lips on it, it's made by this company, although I had problems finding it on their site.

Would you wear savoury-favoured balm?
