Tag Archives: lipglossHandbag shaped pink lipgloss from AccessorizeNever having purchased lipgloss (or, indeed, any other kind of cosmetic) from Accessorize, I can’t vouch for the quality of this raspberry scented lipgloss, so you’ll be unsurprised to learn that my interest in it is all about the packaging. Sure, it’s gimmicky, overly-kitsch and girlie, but hey: sometimes you need some of that in your life, and £4 it could be a cute little gift, either for yourself or for someone else. In fact, I was just about to write about how this could make a nice little stocking filler, when I looked again at the product description and noticed that Accessorize themselves have described it that way. So at least I’m not the only person starting to think about Christmas. Click here to buy it. Clinique BCA Great Lips, Great Cause
If you’re a lipgloss lover – or know one – this little set from Clinique is very cute, and has also been created for a good cause, with a percentage of proceeds going to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation during October. It’s a keychain with two charms and three lipglosses in easy-to-wear shades of pink. The colours are Air Kiss, Kissyfit, and Whisper, and it costs $19 from www.sephora.com Chanel’s Rouge Allure Laque lipstick/gloss
For some reason, as the weather gets cooler, I’ve been craving super-shiny red lips. This is something of a departure for me, because I normally go for matte lip colours, but if it’s high shine I’m after, who better to turn to than Chanel? Their Rouge Allure Laque claims to give a “patent-like” finish, and also apparently wears more like a lipstick than a gloss, which is good news to me too. It comes in 8 different shades – I’m liking the look of the bright red ‘Coromandel’ but the pinkish ‘Ming’ could be a good choice if you prefer a more natural shade. Anyone tried this? DuWop Lipmousse – not quite a lipstick, not quite a gloss
I really shouldn’t blog when I’m hungry. Words like “mousse”, “light and fluffy” and “whipped”: they make me think of dessert, not makeup. All of those words have been applied to DuWop’s new Lipmousse, though, and it is decidedly not something you can eat, although you CAN put it on your lips. Other than the foodie descriptive words, though, DuWop haven’t quite made up their minds exactly what they’re selling here: they say it’s not a lipstick, but not quite a gloss (Oh God, does anyone else now have Britney Spear’s ‘Not a Girl, But Not Yet a Woman’ running through their heads? You’re welcome!) – instead, it’s a kind of hybrid of the two, with a “showerhead” style applicator which they say will help to create a “blurring effect” which disguises any lines or imperfections in the lips. A bit like a Monet painting I guess. (Tai: Do you think she’s pretty? Cher: No, she’s a full-on Monet…) DuWop Lipmousse is available in six different colours, and is $22 at www.sephora.com Dollface Reviews: MeMeMe Light Me Up High Shine Lipgloss in ‘Radiant’
Light up lip gloss: it’s not a new idea, but it is a pretty handy one, especially when the lipgloss in question has a mirror on the side as well as a light in the lid, allowing you to apply it on the go, anytime you like. This one is by MeMeMe, and it’s called Light Me Up High Shine Lip Gloss. In the picture above, I’m wearing shade #3 – ‘Radiant’, which is one of those lovely, natural looking “my lips, but better” shades. It’s actually quite a bit glossier than it looks in the photo, too, so I can confirm that it does live up to the “high shine” claim, even although it may not look like it does here. I don’t wear lipgloss very often, mostly because of the “hair stuck to the lips” syndrome. This one, however, is non-sticky, and nice and comfortable to wear, as well as being a flattering, natural looking colour, so I may be persuaded to wear it more often. MeMeMe products are available from Superdrug, and this one is £5.24. Cargo Classic Lip Gloss with Timestrip Technology
Be honest, readers: how often do you throw out cosmetics because they're past their sell-by date, as opposed to just because you've used them up/realised that, actually, fluorescent pink wasn't such a great idea after all? Because I… don't. No, there are products (and yes, lip glosses are one of the biggest culprits) in my train case that are older than… actually, no, let's not even go there. Anyway, we all know that theoretically you should clear out old makeup items every few months and replace them with shiny new ones. Sometimes this is easier said than done, though, because, when you have as many products as I do, it gets hard to keep track of everything? Hey, did I buy this gloss this year, or sometime around the millennium? You get the picture. (Or I hope you do, otherwise I'll just look like an idiot who never clears out her makeup.) Cargo's new Timestrip® technology is designed to help people like me, though. Available with their Classic Lip Gloss, this comes in the form of a special strip which you insert into the cap once you've opened the gloss for the first time. Once inserted, it starts counting down the months, and once the time strip has turned completely red, you know it's time to buy some new gloss. Or, if you're me, you know it's time to do absolutely nothing about that, and just continue using it as normal. Up to you. Buy: Cargo Classic Lip Gloss, $22 Jelly Belly’s Lip Lickin’ New Glosses It's no secret that along with a passion for makeup (and the award for the least surprising confession ever goes to…. ) I've also got a bit of a sweet tooth (ok, a lot of one). Apart from chocolate- which, should totally be a food group in its own right- my favourite treat of choice? Jelly Beans. So, obviously this trio of lipglosses caught my eye. Not to mention my tastebuds. Because who could resist the lure of the candy plus cosmetic combo? Not me. Evidently. Made by Jelly Belly, creators of the one-and-only gourmet jelly bean, the glosses come in their three most popular flavours: Cotton Candy, Very Cherry and Blueberry. Available from Asos.com for the very sweet price of £3. Dollface Reviews: Creme Team Cremesheen Glass
It was my birthday recently, and one very lovely lady gave me a giftcard for a well known department store. Said well known department store has a MAC concession in my local branch. Can you guess where this story is going….? I was so very tempted by all the goodies on offer (actually, who am I kidding, when am I not tempted?), but it was the new Cremesheen Glass from the Creme Team collection that won me and my giftcard over. I picked it up in the delightfully sounding 'Melt in your Mouth' shade; a juicy, pretty-as-a-picture delicate rose pink. I was sold. It was one of those 'I -simply- must- have- this- or- my -life- as- I -know -it-will -not- be -worth -living' moments. So, naturally, not wanting to tempt fate, I gave in. Unlike the iconic MAC Lipglasses, the Cremesheen glass is not sticky or tacky in the slightest; the clue is in the name people, it glides onto your lips like a dream and feels decadently creamy. Staying power is impressive and it doesn't dry out five minutes after application. It was a definitely a case of my lips but better. Much better. At £12.72 it's not going to be the budget choice, but if you're looking for a great mid range lipgloss that gives gloss without gloop then this little beauty is definitely worth investigating! Dollface Reviews: Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Plumping Gloss – before and after photos
Ah, Soap and Glory’s Sexy Mother Pucker – surely the lipgloss with the cheekiest name ever? I know Mum Dollface was just a little dumbfounded by the name when I threw a tube of this into our basket at Target a few weeks ago, but that quickly gave way to curiosity over whether it would actually work. And did it? Well, you can see the results for yourself. I bought the clear version of this, not one of the coloured versions, which is shown here. It’s basically another lip plumping gloss, which uses what they call "Superfill Plumping Technology" (eh?) to create that beestung look. It does this in the same way every other plumping gloss I’ve tried: by irritating the lips until they swell. Or don’t, as the case may be. With Sexy Mother Pucker, the stinging sensation isn’t painful, but it does last much longer than any other plumping gloss I’ve tried. My lips felt tingly (not unpleasantly so) for a good 10 – 15 minutes after application, but although it left me with shiny lips, I didn’t notice a whole lot of difference to the size of them. Maybe a slight amount of plumping here, but if there is, it’s very slight, and as I’m after the full-on Angelina Jolie effect (so far only ever achieved for me with Miss Groovy’s Lip Poison), probably not something I’d buy again. One thing I have learned about lip plumpers, however, is that everyone has a totally different reaction to them, and ones that haven’t worked at all for me have left friends of mine with lips you could use as flotation devices, so if you want to give this one a try, it’s $9.99 from Target. Too Faced Mood Swing – colour changing lip gloss
It’s a strange idea, and one which I think probably has more of a novelty factor than a practical use, but if you think it’s something you’d like to try out, Too Faced’s Mood Swing, according to the blurb on the Sephora website: " starts off crystal clear and blossoms into countless shades of pink from cotton candy to deep fuchsia, depending on the wearer’s emotional state." Which, I have to admit, sounds absolutely fascinating to me. And, with that, I think I’ve just talked myself into picking one up at the next possible opportunity. If you want to try it too, it’s $18.50 at Sephora. |
