Tag Archives: makeupLancôme’s Maharani Jewels collection for Fall 08
Can it really be time for the fall makeup collections to start coming out already? It is, you know, and as depressing as the thought of autumn is for me, at least it gives us all more makeup to lust after, including these pieces from Lancôme’s Maharani Jewels collection. Take a look under the jump to read more about the collection, and view some larger images of the bronzer and Juicy Tube…

Guerlain Le 2 de Guerlain Mascara – 2 brushes, one bottle
As you would probably expect, the larger brush is for regular application, and promises to "lengthen, curve and separate", while the smaller brush is used to coat those little tiny lashes in the outer and inner corners of your eye. This can really make a difference to how mascara looks, but it can sometimes be difficult to get at them properly if the brush is too big, so this sounds like a good idea to me, although I’m disappointed to see that it doesn’t appear to be available in a waterproof formula, which is what I always use. Buy: Le 2 de Guerlain Mascara, $35 Fashion Week Beauty: Philip LimAs someone who’s spent what feels like a lifetime trying to fight back her unruly brows, I had to suppress a shudder at the sight of the models at Philip Lim’s Fall 2008 show, who appeared to have had their eyebrows brushed straight up towards their hairlines. It’s not something that stands out from a distance, of course, but up close it looks pretty odd, and my hands are just itching to take an eyebrow comb to these girls! Eyebrows aside, the look at Lim was pale and interesting, with pale faces offset by matt red and plumb lipstick. This is a look I generally love, but those eyebrows are putting me off – what do you think? Redheads! Recommend me a lipstick!
That one last tube of ‘Hickory’ is now on its last legs, though, which leaves me with something of a problem. I, as you know, am a redhead. I have very pale skin, very pale lips, and there are hardly any colours of lipstick that seem to suit me. I’ve used perhaps five brands of lipstick in my life – if I’m lucky – and now that my last one is about to die, I’ve been searching high and low for a replacement. Have I managed to find one, though? No. I have not. That’s where you come in. Dollface Reviews: Benefit Speedbrow tinted eyelash gel
Given that this site has become my own special place for embarrassing myself , I may as well admit that, as well as meeting above my nose (if I don’t tweeze them every day), my eyebrows are also long and straggly. Yes, you wish you were me, you really do… When you have long, straggly eyebrows, you face a daily battle to look anything like “groomed”. You see, I can tweeze my eyebrows into the perfect shape, but the long, long hairs will still straggle, making me look like I’ve been dragged through the proverbial bush backwards. Cutting them is a mistake – that just makes them spiky. Having them professionally threaded or some other kind of salon treatment could work, but doesn’t because I am: a) poor So it’s Benefit Speedbrow all the way. Luckily for me, Speedbrow is something of a miracle worker on my eyebrows. As well as giving them a bit of colour (they’re naturally very pale), it also holds them in place, keeping all those stragglers in place and, even better, keeping them in place all day. It’s probably not as good as a professional eyebrow tweezing/threading/whatever, but almost… Buy It: Benefit Speedbrow

Shu Uemura’s brand new Hideki Inaba Boutique Collection Makeup Box
For someone who blogs about beauty, you’d probably be pretty horrified by the state of my makeup collection. It currently languishes in various boxes, bags, drawers, and – yes – the inner pockets of my handbags, and I hang my head in shame. In my defense, though, I do intend to put this sorry state of affairs right, and, to that end, have become absolutely obsessed with train cases. I’ve owned many of these in my time (I am very old), but haven’t yet found one that’s been 100% perfect. This 24th birthday box from Shu Uemura could be a contender, though. It comes decorated with artwork by Hideki Inaba, and has a leather-covered handle and two stacking tiers, and, given that it’s limited edition, could be a nice gift for The only problem here? Well, I’m not sure if I could quite see my way to spending $200 on something described as "mini", could you? Buy: Shu Uemura makeup box New Product: Benefits’ ‘That Gal’ brightening face primer
I heard about this via Jen’s blog, Glossing Over It, this weekend, and was so excited I almost wet myself. Sorry, am I over-sharing here? As you all know, I lovelovelove Benefit, so a new product launch from them is always good news. This one is particularly good news, though, because, well, it sounds like a particularly good product. It’s a face primer, but unlike Benefit’s currently available primer, Doctor Feelgood, this one will also brighten your skin, rather than just preparing it for makeup. According to Benefit, "It’s a silky pink primer that makes skin appear smoother & It’s $27 and currently only available in the US, but no doubt coming soon to an eBay auction near you. Summer Beauty Buys: Two Faced Quickie Chronicles’ The Beach Bunny palette
As much as I hate seeing women lying on the beach and touching up their makeup, there’s no denying that summer calls for a slightly different approach to cosmetics. You’re going to want to pare it down a little, and maybe go for something a little more dewy and natural than you’d wear during winter. The Beach Bunny by Too Faced is the ideal palette for summer, with two lip glosses, two eye shadows and a blusher. It’s reduced to £7.70 at PrettyCow.co.uk , and it comes in a pretty little box, too. You know how we love the packaging. Celebrities Without Makeup: Christina Ricci
Ouch. Definitely one of the scariest “Celebrities sans makeup” shots I’ve seen, I think…. Here we have Christina Ricci with dissapearing eyebrows, a nice set of under-eye luggage, pasty skin, and generally looking like… well, like one of us, really. Welcome to the club, Christina.

Benefit launch D’finer D’liner – invisible anti-feathering lip liner
This is an “invisible” lip liner which they say will melt into those fine lines around the lips (wonder if it’d melt into the fine lines everywhere else, too?) and stop your lipstick bleeding into them. It’s $18, and I haven’t tried it yet, but being the Benefit whore that I am, I probably will soon, so stay tuned for a review. Get it at Benefit |
