This doesn’t have to be used with a Lancome mascara – it’ll work over anything – and while I’ve no idea what it’ll look like when it’s on, or just how glittery it’ll be, I’d be tempted to at least take a look at it if I happened to be passing a Lancome counter, which I’m pretty sure I will be, sooner or later. (For me, ALL roads eventually lead to a Lancome counter…) If you’d like to just buy it online, meanwhile, you can do so by clicking here. Collection 2000 Big Fake MascaraThe blurb being used to market Collection 2000′s new ‘Big Fake’ mascara describes it as a provider of “flirtatious forties glamour”. Now, I love false eyelashes, and I also love all things 40s (I’m sure I don’t even need to mention that I love mascara, do I?) so this sounds almost as if it was designed just for me. There’s more, though: “This marvellous mascara will double your lash length in one fell swoop!” says the blurb. And even although, for some of us, that would mean eyelashes that reach our hairline, never mind our eyebrows, I’m pretty much sold. I’m slightly out off by the fact that this is apparently Collection 2000′s biggest brush ever: I tend to prefer narrow mascara wands to big fat ones, but at just £4.99, I could be willing to give it a whirl, anyway. If you are too, it’s available from March 17th at Tesco, and from April 12th from other retailers. Beauty Society ‘Enormous Lashes & Fabulous Brows’ Holiday Collection
Well, you can see why THIS little set appeals to me, can’t you? If it has the words “lashes” or “brows” in its name, I’m almost guaranteed to want it, and if the word “enormous” is also present, you can definitely count me in. (Er, only if the “enormous” is a reference to the lashes, not the brows, though. Enormous brows aren’t quite so much of a draw, somehow.) This set is by Beauty Society, and would make a particularly generous gift (ahem!) because all of the products are full-sized. As well as their Enormous Lash Enhancing Serum (I’ve yet to encounter one of these that has actually worked, but I live in hope), you also get a tube of Enormous Mascara, Draw the Line eyeliner and Brow Doctor Eyebrow Enhancing Gel. All of these products claim to enhance eyelash growth, using a mix of peptides and conditioners: I haven’t tried any of them myself, and as I said, I tend to be a little skeptical of these claims, but if you want to try them out for yourself, a set like this offers an excellent opportunity to do it. This is £61.72 at Nordstrom. NARS new Larger Than Life lengthening and volumising mascaras
Some mascaras try to be all things to all people, claiming to provide length, volume, curl and the secret or eternal youth, all in one small tube. Well, OK, maybe not that last one, but you get the picture. As I know only too well, though, most of the time these multi-taskers just don’t work, so it’s actually quite refreshing to see NARS decide to concentrate on one of thing at a time, releasing two new mascaras at the same time, one lengthening, one volumising. (I guess they could just be hoping we’ll buy both, though. Wow, it’s almost like they KNOW me!) As you can see from the image, the lengthening mascara has a long, pointy wand and the volumising one has a shorter, fatter one. They’re both called Larger Than Life, and the Lengthening version contains tiny fibres which cling to your lashes, helping them look longer, while the Volumising formula relies on the “honeycomb” brush to make sure each lash is coated. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Sorry, that’s just the choir of angels in my head rejoicing at the news that there is actually a mascara in the world that does exactly what it says on the tin. That mascara is Anastasia’s Lash Lifting Mascara, and, of all the mascaras I’ve tested over the past few weeks, it’s definitely the one I’ve liked the best. As the name infers, this is designed to lift the lashes (and also to create volume, although you wouldn’t necessarily guess that from the name alone). Now, given the multiple mascara disappointments I’ve gone through recently, I have to admit that I wasn’t really expecting much from this one either, so I didn’t even bother to curl my lashes before I applied it, feeling sure it would drag the curl out anyway. JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHERS. Gah. But! A few swipes of the wand later, and my lashes were already starting to curl up at the ends. A few more (OK, quite a lot more: it took several applications to get the desired result, but who’s counting?) and I was impressed. OK, it’s not in the same league as my beloved Lancome, but it did thicken and curl, and that’s exactly what it’s supposed to do, and that’s good enough for me. I’ll be interested to see how it copes with pre-curled lashes, too, and will probably put it to the test on that tomorrow. Overall, pretty damn good, especially for a non-waterproof formula, and there’s been no flaking or smudging, either, Anastasia Lash Lifting Mascara, $22 from www.sephora.com |
